Although the rumours have abated in the past year or so, whispers of a gaming handset have never been too far from Sony, and now it appears that they may be gaining more substance. Tech site Engadget has reported from "a trusted source" that the Japanese giant may well still be quietly beavering away at a mobile gaming device and furthermore this may be in collaboration with Google using the Android 3.0 Gingerbread.
Certainly the use of Android makes sense as the most flexible and popular open source mobile OS, and devices such as the Galaxy S have proved that given powerful hardware, Android can handle high speed 3D (such as in Asphalt 5) and even PS1 games. With current high end Android devices already packing superior media and 3D handling capabilities than the ageing PSP, any new Sony device would have to pack some pretty special hardware. The rumoured device is said to be armed with a 3.7"-4.1" screen, 1GHz Snapdragon, a 5MP camera and a slide out game board, much like that of the PSP Go but with "a long touch pad". Beyond this however, any additional capabilities or hardware (such as 3D acceleration) are not known.
Could this be a job for the Tecra platform? We will have to wait and see.

If you use a BlackBerry and also enjoy Twitter you may well already be using UberTwitter as in my opinion it is the best free Twitter app for BlackBerry.
The good news is that a new beta version is now available for download with a few nice tweaks. In particular the user interface has had a make over. Have a look at the mentions and direct messages tabs when you update.
Here is a quick summary from the developer:
We don’t normally cover stuff here that is non tech but I’m afraid that the story below has been a bit too close to home and I would really appreciate it if you would all take the time to watch the short video linked to the story.
Georgios Tsoulos is wanted by Hertfordshire Police for driving a motor vehicle that was responsible for the death of 20 year old Ricky Burlton from Enfield.
On the day of the collision, Tsoulos was transferred from North Middlesex Hospital to Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield where he was treated for injuries to his face. On 4 June he was due to be transferred to Moorfields Hospital in London for further treatment to an eye injury. A friend of Mr Tsoulos’ collected him from Chase Farm Hospital to transfer him to Moorfields and it was during this journey that he absconded. He has not been seen since.
Earlier this week I mentioned that I’d received a message from Nokia in the London Evening Standard. The message simply read “Big things come in small packages”.
This morning a courier arrived with another package for me, this time a small box from Nokia. When I say small I really mean tiny! Read on to see what was in the box and what my second message says…
Good news for those of you flushed with cash and not wanting a contract – the UK’s first iPhone network O2 have now put Apple’s latest smartphone onto its PAYG list, joining Orange and Vodafone with the remaining major networks coming by the end of the year. For just shy of £600, you too can have your very own 32GB iPhone 4 locked to your favourite network, or if you feel a phone should really only cost £500 at the most then the 16GB will fit your bill with £5 change. The iPhone 4’s PAYG tariff gives you 300 texts and 500mb bundled in but there are no free minutes. There is also no word whether the white iPhone will join its darker brethren at present when it finally sees a release.
Interested? Pop on over to O2 here and bring lots of money.

Well rock me Amadeus, if it isn’t a case of possible composer concealment in the Windows Phone 7 camp. The device many had speculated to be the phone known as Schubert has now been given a new identity, it is now likely to be know as HTC Mozart. It appears that HTC’s codenaming conventions for WP7 devices will be after famous composers, but whether the names are related to the hierarchy of the devices isn’t clear but if so a Mozart, Bach or Beethoven named phone would certainly reside pretty far up the list. This would also be in keeping with its Desire meets Droid Incredible looks, both up near the top of the Android tree. Aussie operator Telstra first mentioned a WP7 device called Mozart back in mid-June but pictured with the advert was the regular WP7 stock phone photo, not really giving much away except to confirm a device existed.

This morning HTC has sent out some mysterious invites to an event in September taking place in London. And with some image manipulation skills, people have managed to uncover something that looks very close to the leaked HTC Desire HD hiding in the invite. (see below). There have been videos and photos of this device and this could be the event it comes out of the smoke. However, there are some other theories that are saying that this device is the HTC Schubert, which runs Windows Phone 7. The Schubert is another device that we have seen photos and videos of, but I don’t think that we will see the Schubert on September 15th as Windows Phone 7 isn’t scheduled for launch until Christmas time. But I guess it won’t be long to wait before we find out.
It’s that time again. The time when HTC invite us to come and see what delightful phones they have been working on. The event will take place on the 15th of September at an undisclosed location in London.
So, what could it be? Well, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out it will either be the next Android Device or the first HTC Windows Phone 7 device. Or it may even be both.
Either way we will be there to cover the news and get some hands on time with the device/devices.

At the Google mobile event, they announced Chrome to Phone. For those who are not familiar with Chrome to Phone, it lets you send information and links from your browser straight to your Android phone. To do this you need to get the Chrome to Phone browser extension for Chrome, and then you also need to download an Chrome to Phone Android app. Once you have done this, all you need to do is click one button and then it will send the current web page, map, YouTube video or phone number to your phone. However, Chrome to Phone will only work with Android phones that have Froyo. Video tutorial here.
