Froyo coming to HTC Desire on Vodafone tomorrow-ish

The HTC Desire for Vodafone will finally be getting Android 2.2 Monday, 23rd of August, tomorrow, according to Vodafone. This comes after the carrier was pressured by their users to release the upgrade amidst an arguably “pointless” non-Froyo OTA update that seemingly had no other purpose than to add bloatware beyond belief.

you may or may not get it Monday as they’re employing a staggered upgrade process. The wait will probably be a bit longer for a lot of you, but rest assured that updates will finally be going out. At least Vodafone’s committed to helping you get rid of the Vodafone 360 software (aforementioned bloatware) from your device once you finally do receive the upgrade. I’m sure many will appreciate that just as much as Froyo itself.

Nokia C6 unboxing video

nokia_c6_3 Hopefully you will have seen the cool NokiaBox video that we recorded in central London. We were invited to take part in the #NokiaBox event which took place in 4 cities around the world. This ended up being on of the biggest unboxings that we’ve ever done and the first one we’ve done outside in front of an audience!

So what was in the big box? Two Nokia C6 boxes. So this here is the follow up full unboxing video of the new Nokia C6. You’ll see me take a look at the hardware before doing a little demo of some of the basic features of the handset. Over the next few weeks I will be using the reviewing the Nokia C6 and will have a full written review for you here on site. For now I hope you’ll enjoy the little video below.

iPhone 3G speed increase in next update

Rumour has it that Apple will be addressing the sluggish nature of the iPhone 3G in their next software update. Some say it might come as early as next month, other say that’s too long a wait and it should here today. In the meantime Neowin have offered this quick fix to get things going on the 3G:

To remedy the sluggish performance (or at least one cause of it) go to “Settings->General->Home Button->Spotlight Search-> deselect every option” and this will stop background indexing on the phone. Several users reported that the fix showed immediate results and Neowin has observed improvements on two separate iPhone 3G devices.
