LG OLED TVs to grow to 31″!

lg-oled While 31″ is positively monitor-like in the ever growing world of LCD and Plasma display technology, 31″ in OLED terms is a minor miracle.  The forever next-big-thing display technology has, until now, been strictly portable TV sizes – Sony’s 11″ XEL-1 being the most prominent and expensive example, although Samsung has previously displayed a 31″ device a couple of years ago at a trade show.  As of yet though, no commercially available model has left the Korean’s factory.  AMOLED has of course risen in prominence with its inclusion on HTC’s Legend and Desire handsets as well as the Super AMOLED variant appearing on Samsung’s higher devices, and has noticeably better contrast do to it’s local illumination switching per pixel.  For some time OLED screens have been hampered by issues with certain parts of their RGB spectrum expiring before the others but manufacturers believe this is becoming a thing of the past so while LG does not yet have a release date or price, it does show that the technology is viable for larger panels and could be on its way to a front room near you soon.

LaCie LaCinema Mini HD multimedia player unboxing video

IMG_1445 That’s a big ol’ post title for what is actually a really small and neat networkable HD media player.

When you hear the name LaCie you may not immediately think of media player products, LaCie are perhaps more commonly associated with storage media and external drives. However the LaCinema Mini HD Connect is just one of a range of products from LaCie to fall in to the Media Player category.

I’ve been looking for a product like this for a while. I have a lot of films and TV shows recorded on my Mac and wanted a way to watch them on my large screen TV. I’ve considered Apple TV but that’s quite an expensive solution. The LaCinema Mini HD Connect is about ah third of the cost of the Apple product but can it perform? You’ll have to wait a while for our full review to find out but for now you can check out the brief unboxing video below.

HTC Vision/Desire Z/G2 spotted

t-mobile-g2-itw-02-sm

Somebody has sent engadget some rather interesting photos. Yes, it is the forthcoming HTC slider. Known as the T-Mobile G2 in the USA but believed to the the Desire Z here in the UK, this 3.7 inch Android device is what we think we will be introduced to us on September 15th here in London. Known initially as the HTC Vision you can clearly see its glorious 4 row sliding keyboard. I sense this new Android device is going to a huge seller in what is already a massively gowning market.

Looks pretty sweet doesn’t it?

Another photo after the break:
