Steve Ballmer confirms Windows Mobile 6.5

1225402764.usr8 “In talking about Windows Mobile 6.5, Steve Ballmer did not go in to specifics but did hint at an improvement in the interface and flow of the software. It is believed, however, that this will be the first release to contain the reported Zune software integration instead of the much delayed Windows Mobile 7 release. Though there was no specific date given for Windows Mobile 7, it was believed to be scheduled for as late as the third quarter of 2010, two years away.”

HTC Touch HD unboxed and previewed!

The HTC Touch HD is yet another great new device from HTC that everyone seems to be waiting for. Many of you have send emails and messages asking if you should by the Touch Pro, the Omnia, the X1 or if you should wait for the Touch HD.

My HD arrived this morning from Clove Technology and after a quick unboxing (which you can see below) I’ve been playing with it most of the day so far.

SO what do I think? Well I am definitely impressed. The screen is fantastic, the OS responsive and the design is awesome. Loving it so far as it feels like the logical progression for me from the Diamond.

HD-vs-iPhone

Touch HD vs iPhone

Inevitably the Touch HD will be compared to the iPhone, they have a similar design and are of a similar size. Many are hailing the Touch HD as a true iPhone killer. I’m not sure that I’d go so far as to say that, the success of the iPhone, in my opinion, isn’t just down to the hardware but iTunes and the AppStore have a great deal to do with that too. I’ll be talking about how they compare more when we got down to the full review.

HD-vs-Diamond

Touch HD vs Touch Diamond

The Touch HD is quite a bit bigger than then Touch Diamond but that’s really down to a design choice with that large WVGA screen, which I have to say, is fantastic. The HD takes some of the design elements of the Diamond, such as the flush front design, and builds upon them where we now have a totally flat and button-less front on the HD.

Thank goodness HTC have finally included a proper headphone connector on the HD. You can now use any headphones with a standard 3.5mm jack plug and you wont have to splash out for nor carry one of those annoying adapters!

So on to the unboxing and preview video. The unit we have on review is an official UK retail model, kindly supplied by Clove Technology, so this is exactly what you’ll get if you buy one SIM-free today. The Orange version may vary slightly and is likely to have custom icons and screens but we’ll find out about that later next week when we hope to have the Orange review unit.

HTC Touch HD Unboxed

I’ll spend the rest of the weekend using the HD and will start the review off early next week. Please do drop me a line with any questions you might have and I’ll do my best to answer them for you!

HTC Touch HD video unboxing and overview

image Not really one for unboxing videos however the Touch HD really is such an exciting device I decided to do one. I have done a quick unboxing along with a look around the hardware and finally a quick look at the software side too. First impressions are excellent and the screen is simply stunning. Thanks to Clove also for getting this device out to me so quickly. Full review to follow after a few days of use, any questions about the device leave them in the comments and I will answer them. Orange Introduces Eee PC 901 with integrated 3G connectivity

We’ve spoken about the various Eee PC models in the past on T&M and we’ve even talked about some of the hacks that various people have done in order to install 3G cards internally on the 701 and 901. However if you pop down to your Orange store an sign up for 3G data account you can grab yourself an EeePC 901 with the 3G card built in for just £25 per month!

EeePC 901

Orange today announced a new edition to its ‘connected laptop’ range. Following the huge popularity of its initial offering launched in August, Orange is now upgrading its consumer offer to make it even easier for consumers to get online by launching the Eee PC 901with embedded 3G connectivity.

Available from mid-November, the new ultra portable Eee PC comes in a choice of either black or pink and features Intel’s Atom processor. What’s more, the Eee PC 901 comes equipped with five hours of battery life, an integrated webcam, and features an 8.9" compact design, weighing in at just 1.1kg – making it the ultimate portable computing experience.

Francois Mahieu, Director of Devices, Orange UK said: "By introducing the Eee PC 901 with integrated connectivity, we’re now making it even easier for customers to purchase a flexible solution that allows them to access the internet when they are out and about. As a result, we strongly believe this will be one of the most popular device offers in the market place this Christmas.”

With the largest integrated mobile data network in the UK, this is the second package in the company’s consumer connected laptop product line, with Orange also offering a range of connected laptops for business customers. The company plans to evolve its offerings over time to include fixed line broadband and an increased laptop range.

The consumer offer will be available from Orange shops, via telesales and the Orange web site at www.orange.co.uk/shop

3 to announce Facebook handset

image 3 the UK 3G network are rumoured to be ready to announce a new handset after the success of it’s Skype Phone. The phone, manufactured by INQ (Hutchinson Whampoa’s new handset making division), will basically be based on Facebook, meaning that we’ll be seeing unified contacts, texting through messages and IM through Facebook chat. The phone itself, the INQ1 (as it’s the company’s first handset, the name makes sense), is a fairly basic slider, though it carries an HSDPA connection for super-fast network speeds.
