Pantech OZ2 / Helio Ocean 2 approved by the FCC

Whilst it’s not siting at the top of the Mobile Phone market Pantech’s new OZ2 has sailed through the FCC’s testing process, sporting Helio branding that suggests this is the much-anticipated Helio Ocean 2. Since Helio was acquired by Virgin Mobile, it’s not unreasonable to expect to see this cell phone hit Virgin Mobile’s lineup shortly.

You may wonder why I am posting such a low end device well the answer lies in the Dual Slide function which is explained below. I thought this was kind of neat!

The Pantech OZ2 packs a QVGA display and dual-slider form factor, with a numeric keypad sliding out from the bottom and a QWERTY keyboard sliding out from the side. The stats look like:

* 3 megapixel camera

* Dual slider, just like the original

* microSDHC support

* 1GB internal storage

* In-browser Flash support

* 30fps video recording

* Touch-sensitive directional pad

* PC sync capability

No HTC Touch Viva in the UK?

The guys over at Devicewire just dropped me a line to say that they’d heard from HTC about the Touch Viva and it’s been confirmed that this particular model will not be available in the UK!

Now I guess that the plans could change in the future but it does seem a bit of a shame as I suspect that this little Touch model would have been pretty popular.

HTC Dream (G1) – More Pictures Leaked

More live shots of T-Mobile’s G1, aka the HTC Dream, have leaked out of Google.  Leaked an unnamed internal source at Google, the handset in question was apparently being used by a tester as his primary handset.

image

While no new details about the device have leaked out with the images, they do confirm just how close to the Sidekick the handset appears when used in horizontal mode with the QWERTY keyboard.  It also gives a sense of proportion that has so far been absent; unless the tester has abnormally large or small hands, the G1 doesn’t look as massive as some of the early leaked shots might have suggested.

image

It remains to be seen whether the pronounced “chin” section gets in the way of typing (Sidekicks usually have a bevelled edge either side of the keyboard, whereas on the G1 it’s more blunt) but this confirms that the device is in the wild and good enough to be used as a sole handset.

New Sony Ericsson phone?

Pictures of a new Sony Ericsson Walkman phone have appeared, and it shows a slider phone in the same vein as the super-slim W880i.

The guys over at the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog have uncovered the pic, and we’re sorry to say there’s very little we can report in terms of specs.

Sony Ericsson Rika?

All I can say at this time is that it looks like it will have GPS, a 3.2 MP Camera and judging by the front facing camera, we can guess 3G connectivity is pretty likely too.

Again with most of my posts today, watch this space and see when becomes of this.

New Samsung Bresson M8800

I’ve seen a lot of rumours in the past few hours regarding the above phone and now it seems to be popping up everywhere.

As yet there are no photo’s for the device and all I can tell you is that it has an impressive 8 MP camera, quad-band GSM support, tri-band HSDPA and a Touch Screen with swipe technology similar to that seen on the HTC Touch series & iPhone.

I’ve googled till my fingers and eyes are sore trying to get more info on this handset but alas all I could find is that Phones4U the UK based mobile phone seller had indeed created pages for this around 12 hours ago but they look to have been brought offline or deleted.

The actual market name for the Samsung Bresson M8800 is still to be confirmed, due to the low profile surrounding the expected explosive launch. The M8800 is the product code, whilst the Bresson project title is rumoured to be associated with Henri Cartier-Bresson, a French photographer considered the father of modern photojournalism. Which given the handsets purpose and appeal, is very fitting.

Keep watching this space for more details

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 global launch party video

As you probably know, last night I attended the Global Launch Event for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. This gave us an excellent chance to get some more hands-on time with the X1 and to speak again with Magnus Andersson and the rest of the Sony Ericsson team.

I have to say, the more I see and use the Xperia X1 the more excited I get about it. Looking at the device on paper really doesn’t do it justice and I am now really looking forward to getting my hands on a review unit soon. I’ll be talking about this more later.

So for now I thought I would leave you with this video of Magnus talking about the design of the Xperia X1. I hope you can hear what he was saying clearly enough, it was a busy, crowded event and poor sound levels.

Magnus Andersson talks about the Xperia X1 (not doing Karaoke!)

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Launch pictures

image Coolsmartphone managed to attend the Xperia X1 launch last night in London and got a boat load of pictures of the device on their Flickr page here. Their early thoughts on the handset is that it perhaps didn’t perform as quickly as it could, although it could be an early ROM build (err its launched on the 30th). Screen-switching speed wasn’t too bad, although it is dependent on what you’re doing at the time – watching a video and sliding the keyboard out took a little longer. The music and video apps performed well and received praise. A few of the pictures after the break.
