NetFlix for iPad: Quick Review

NetFlix for iPadYou will have hopefully read James’ review of the LoveFilm Player application for iPad. LoveFilm has long been the movie lovers rental service of choice but now it seems that having the physical disc delivered is a thing of the past. Netflix is a 100% stream only service that has been around for a while over in Americaland and has now arrived in the UK, to make the competition a little more interesting.

For the purpose of this review I decided to enroll on Netflix’s 1 month trial to give it a thorough testing, I hadn’t tried streaming a film on any platform before so I was quite interested to see what the quality would be like on an average broadband connection. After the 1 month trial it will cost you just £6 P/M which for the quality of video that you will receive is awesome value! Also the app is FREE!! My favourite word!

I have to say that I have been really surprised in a very good way that the quality of streaming is super! I have an average internet connection of 5 mb which is below the UK average but for my area is pretty good, however I wasn’t expecting the high quality that Netflix has offered me. I have to note to you guys that this is a review of not only the iPad version but of the iPhone version too, however they are exactly the same app just smaller on the iPhone, so I will be just using iPad screenshots for the review.

Tegra 3 Shadowgun amazes

b_500_274_16777215_0___images_stories_reviews_shadowgun_shadowgun-android-game-reviewThe Tegra 3 version of Shadowfun seems to be making waves. The difference in detail and how the water looked alone was impressive. nVidia has released a new preview via Twitter showing more of what to expect. As you will see in the video is the Tegra 3 revamped version, the graphics and detail are incredible and have been improved upon on just about every facet when it comes to the game itself. Aside from the improvements, it’s a pretty bad ass trailer to watch anyways.

Polarbit extend Google’s celebration

ScreenClipPolarbit has dropped the prices of all their paid games. The most expensive ones they had are now only £1.27 while the rest of their catalog of titles are only 63p. From the sounds of it they plan to keep this sale going for all ten days that Google plans to do their sale. If you’ve been wanting some of Polarbit’s other titles, now is a great time to nab a couple for dirt cheap.

You can see all their games that they have on sale in their developer listing located here. Of course they also have a bunch of free games you can play and free versions of their paid ones to try out but for the discount they are giving right now, might as well grab the full versions right? Enjoy!

Twitter for BlackBerry

T4BB

Five years ago today on the 21st March 2006, a man named Jack Dorsey sent the first tweet. Today Twitter is growing at an incredible pace, with an incredible 140 million tweets sent per day.

I have been informed that BlackBerry is the number one Smartphone for Twitter. There have been in excess of 6 million BlackBerry Twitter downloads to date, revolutionising the way people share and interact. The Twitter for BlackBerry app can help make tweeting easier and more intuitive – so you can literally tell the whole world what is on your mind.

A fully featured and fully integrated Twitter app for BlackBerry Smartphones which ticks all the boxes. The app notifies you with new direct messages, tweets or mentions and works alongside your BlackBerry Browser and camera, so it only takes a moment to post a link or upload a picture. Plus, you can follow friends, search for a topic of interest, edit re-tweets, and find users quickly by typing @usernames.

Twitter for BlackBerry is available to download for FREE from BlackBerry App World

Media BB6 screencaptured1284710825008_2

With the weekend here I thought I might just mention a few music apps that you may find handy if you are a BlackBerry user.

Now we all know that media was never the strong point on a BlackBerry before BlackBerry 6 but since the OS update things have improved immensely.

There are a great selection of music apps within App World from podcasts, to radio, to creating music on a BlackBerry. Have a look at the few I have selected after the break or head on over to App World from your BlackBerry and see what you fancy.

LilRacers Pro Rally for iPhone – Video Demo

LilRacers

We don’t normally cover games here at tracyandmatt but every so often I come across a game that is so addictive I cant stop playing it.

Although not free (£1.19) LilRacers for the iPhone is fantastic value for money in my opinion and will keep you entertained for hours.

As you will see, the game has a massive selection of championships to enter and each of those containing four tracks. In addition there are four types of road surface to make things a little more realistic.

Check out the video below and if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch I would recommend giving this one a try.

Breakdown app for iPhone

As the weather has been so bad here in the UK, with snow and freezing temperatures, there have been record numbers of vehicle breakdowns reported. I came across a useful app for the iPhone this morning that drivers with iPhones much want to consider. It’s called Breakdown from a company called Hello24.

It’s a simple idea but like many simple ideas it’s also genius! If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in a situation where you are stuck, car has broken down or you are, god forbid, involved in an accident then Breakdown can really help.

It allows you to set up the details of your breakdown service membership, whether that’s the AA, RAC, Green Flag etc so that you have your membership number and the phone number to call at hand. It also allows you to use the built in GPS to find your current location and the ability to forward those details to a third party via text or email.

Furthermore, there is a ‘What To Do’ section that offers advice for when things go wrong, handy in itself as how many people would go in to a blind panic in an emergency!

Head over to Hello24 to check out the app. definitely worth having on your phone, just in case!
