We have now seen plenty of videos of BlackBerry 6 running on the BlackBerry Torch but what we have not seen much of, if al all, is it on a non touch screen device. The guys at bbleaks have released a video of OS6 running on a Bold 9650. Although we don’t have this device here in the UK I am hoping the experience will be much the same on the devices that will be eligible for an OS upgrade.

Seemingly named by the creators of TV’s Gladiators, Dell’s phones are sounding increasingly ‘extreme’ with Streak, Thunder, Lightning and now Blaze!! Ok it doesn’t have the exclamation marks a name like Blaze so richly deserves but we can see it does have a small screen (likely 320×240), a surface that is a fingerprint magnet and allegedly Android 1.5!
Whether this is just in pre-production models is unclear but any smartphone with an OS over 15 months and nearly 4 revisions old would be hampered from the beginning. Even the lowest of low end phones come with at least Donut 1.6 and many applications are beginning to require this or higher. Alternatively it could even be an ultra-budget handset, somewhat negating the Neolithic OS. We’ll have to wait though, as there’s no firm release date at present.

If you use a BlackBerry and also enjoy Twitter you may well already be using UberTwitter as in my opinion it is the best free Twitter app for BlackBerry.
The good news is that a new beta version is now available for download with a few nice tweaks. In particular the user interface has had a make over. Have a look at the mentions and direct messages tabs when you update.

Good news for those of you flushed with cash and not wanting a contract – the UK’s first iPhone network O2 have now put Apple’s latest smartphone onto its PAYG list, joining Orange and Vodafone with the remaining major networks coming by the end of the year. For just shy of £600, you too can have your very own 32GB iPhone 4 locked to your favourite network, or if you feel a phone should really only cost £500 at the most then the 16GB will fit your bill with £5 change. The iPhone 4’s PAYG tariff gives you 300 texts and 500mb bundled in but there are no free minutes. There is also no word whether the white iPhone will join its darker brethren at present when it finally sees a release.

It’s that time again. The time when HTC invite us to come and see what delightful phones they have been working on. The event will take place on the 15th of September at an undisclosed location in London.
So, what could it be? Well, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out it will either be the next Android Device or the first HTC Windows Phone 7 device. Or it may even be both.
Either way we will be there to cover the news and get some hands on time with the device/devices.

It seems if you are one of those who wishes to dip your feet in Windows Phone 7 waters, Orange will be your first port of call. HTC have announced they are shipping an as yet undisclosed handset to AT&T in the US and Orange here in the UK. It’s quite possible the undisclosed device will turn out to be HTC’s symphonically named Schubert handset, the so far only device to have surfaced running Redmond’s much hyped mobile OS. Orange has traditionally been one of the main providers of Windows Mobile handsets, from the SPV branded HTC devices such as the SPV C500 to HTC’s own branded devices like the Touch Diamond and the HD2. The Windows Phone 7 reboot of the aging OS however is not without its controversy and with iOS and especially Android, there is more than one player in the mobile OS game. Certainly, it will be one of the most interesting releases of the year – Q4 can’t come soon enough.

Over the past 24 hours bloggers and journalists around the world have started to receive cryptic messages through newspapers from Nokia and WOMworld.
I too received a message through the London Evening Standard in the personal message section. The message simply reads: “Hi Matt Davis, Big things come in small packages. The times is coming when all will be revealed.” certainly cryptic enough!
So what does it mean? Well I’ve heard that other bloggers have now received a small package from Nokia but they are being tight lipped about the contents. My suspicion is that it’s something to do with their new N8 handset. Time will tell of course so watch this space for updates!

It would appear that that some cheeky monkey has created an Android app that can steal cash!
The program poses as a media player but once installed starts sending premium rate text messages. The service being sent messages is operated by the malicious app’s creator, who scoops up the fees. Discovered by Kaspersky Labs, it is believed to be the first booby-trapped application for Android. In a security advisory Kaspersky said that the fake media player was most prevalent among Russian Android users. The risk to Android owners worldwide is believed to be low.
Rather a concern though.

Nintendo have today revealed what lies in store for the lucky visitors to Gamescom in Cologne next week. Amongst the hotly anticipated and expected titles they plan to be giving hands-on game time with are Zelda: Skyward Sword and Metroid: Other M on the Wii, while the DS will be showing off Mario vs.. Donkey Kong and ladies favourite Professor Layton’s new adventure The Lost Future.
So let’s cast a closer eye over what The Big N has instore for you Wii fans:
