Video calls now on Skype for iPhone

iphone-landscape-video A few days ago I mentioned that Skype were planning to make video calling available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Today we’ve heard from Skype and they’ve told us that the the Skype update for iPhone is already available from the App Store. Indeed a visit to the store this morning reveals the update sitting there waiting for me.

I’ll be checking it out later today and will report back!

Check out Skype’s full press release below:

Advent Vega unboxing video

advent_vega The Advent Vega is one of the most attractive Android tablets coming to market. The tablet is only being sold through the Dixons group and sells out within a few hours of stock updates. They just can’t make enough of them. Here we have managed to acquire one and will be giving it a full review.

The main reason for this wild rampage is that whilst the device is pretty cheap it happens to also be extrememly powerful. Most Tablets let one to the features drop a level in order to keep the price low however Advent maintain a high level across the board especially as it includes the Tegra II chipset. Some might argue that the build quality has suffered mind you.

Skype to offer video calling on iPhone, iPod and iPad

skype News just in regarding the new version of Skype that is rumoured to be announced at CES on the 6th January. News via QuickPWN.

Unfortunately for Skype, someone ruined part of their announcements by finding a webpage on Skype which details some products that will get video calling. If you went to this link earlier (now down) you would of seen the following:

To make video calls with your contacts, you will need an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3rd generation iPod touch, 4th generation iPod touch or an iPad. Your contacts will only be able to see you if your device has a camera. Make sure your device is running iOS 4.0 or above and that you are using Skype for iPhone 3.0 or above.

The contacts you are calling must be using one of the following Skype clients:

  • Skype for Windows version 4.2 and above
  • Skype for Mac OS X version 2.8 and above
  • Skype for iPhone 3.0 and above

I’m looking forward to checking this out on the new year!

Nokia N8 Review

Nokia N8 Review Nokia, as we all know, are one of the biggest if not the biggest mobile phone manufacturer to date, so when they announced the new Nokia N8 handset I personally was super excited to realise that Matt had one in for review so I immediately snapped up my chance to review a handset of this stature.

What’s new about the N8 is the fact that it’s the very first Symbian device to have version 3 installed, this is huge news for all Symbian and Nokia fans alike because the operating system is more expansive and less boring than previous versions, so I asked the following question to myself…

‘Can Symbian version 3 compete with android, iOS, Blackberry OS etc?’

To find out more about this exciting device read on for the full review.

Huawei S7 Android Tablet unboxing video

s7 A little over a week ago we started reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Tablet and so far we have been quite impressed with it. However, there are an awful lot of Android powered tablets hitting the market at the moment, from those costing under £100 to the like of the Galaxy at around £500.

We’ve looked at some of the cheaper tablets in the past and despite the bargain price tag we still didn’t think they represented value for money. So this week we’re going to take a look at something that’s more mid-range; the Huawei S7 Android tablet which comes in at just over £280. We’ll compare this to some of the other tablet devices and see how it shapes up in our review.

For now you can take a look at my unboxing video below to get a flavour.

HP Photosmart Premium Review

HP-prem We recently looked at a few photo printers and as we’re running up to Christmas, and I suspect that photo printers are likely to be on a few people’s Christmas list, I thought it was about time that we review a few more.

We’re are starting off this week with the HP Photosmart Premium (C309G), an all-in-one photo printer, copier scanner with the added benefit of a large colour LCD touchscreen promising that you’ll be able to edit photos without the need of a computer or wirelessly print direct from your PS3, iPhone or iPad.

So let’s unpack the printer and see how easy it is to get up and running and, most importantly, how good those photos print!

Samsung Galaxy Tab unboxing video

Galaxy-Tab The Samsung Galaxy Tab was announced and released a while ago but it’s been so popular that we’ve actually struggled to get our hands on one to review. However, a few days ago one arrived from Clove Technology for us to take a look at.

When initially announced the Galaxy Tab was rumoured to cost in the region of £700 which made us all wonder if Samsung had priced themselves out of the market with perhaps its closest rival, the iPad, costing significantly less. The price is now a much more reasonable £517 from Clove which makes it significantly more competitive.

We’ve given the Tab to Gareth to review as he’s recently been playing with Android tablets from Archos so thought it would be good to get his opinion and comparison. His review will be with us later next week but for now you can check out my unboxing video below.

Sony Ericsson Spiro review

spiro-main The Spiro from Sony Ericsson is the Zylo Walkman phones little brother. Certainly smaller, Certainly cheaper but is there much separating these two in the mobile gene pool and is does the Spiro’s lower price tag hold it back in terms of performance and functionality?

Read on to see how the Sony Ericsson shapes up!

Huawei U8800 unboxing video

U8800-main Just a few months ago Huawei launched the IDEOS. At the time it was the first Android handset to ship with 2.2 FROYO and there was a lot of interest in the little device. However, as much as we liked the IDEOS and the value for money it represented we felt that it was slightly on the small side. Indeed if the feedback we received is anything to go by many of you had the same thoughts.

So here we have the newer Huawei U8800 which is a bigger handset, also offering Android 2.2, and similar features to the IDEOS but with a 3.8 WVGA display. Could be just what we need, a high-spec, low-cost Android device on the market just in time for Christmas. It’s also the first handset to feature HSPA+!

Note that I has some issues with the WiFi on the U8800 that we have in for review BUT I should point out that we are literally one of the first sites to have the device and that it’s not yet running final retail ROM and as such don’t panic about the WiFi!

Check it out after the break:
