Twittelator for iPad demo video

twittelatorpro-logo-300x300_2 It was a week or so ago that we published the review of Twittelator for iPad. If you read the review you may have noticed I said I would be doing a quick demo video. Well I did but today Matt reminded me that we forgot to publish it. So here it is!

Although the review was pretty in depth the video will give you the real user experience.

If you are considering parting with your cash and getting Twittelator for iPad then watching the video is a must. Enjoy.

Apple iPad’s get a bit warm!

hotipad With the weather here in the UK turning warmer over the past few days I thought I would just post a quick word of caution to my fellow iPad users.

Matt and I decided to relax in the garden yesterday (rare) and I sat in the sun surfing the web on the iPad – the iPad is far better than a laptop for this!

After just about 10 minutes though the iPad came up with a warning message “iPad needs to cool down before you can use it”. Now whilst it’s true I was sitting in direct sunlight it was only just over 70 degrees here in the UK yesterday, hardly what I would call hot so I was surprised to get the warning message so quickly. I understand that this message is being seen rather more frequently in warmer climes.

My advice then it to avoid sitting with the iPad in direct sunlight, the black front of the iPad soaks up the heat rather well. Also you might want to avoid keeping it in a case while using it, especially the official black wrap-around cases that, being of a matt-black finish, are about as heat absorbing as you can get.

Once I moved the iPad to the shade for a while and extricated it from the case it cooled down pretty quickly and was soon functioning again.

Is there a thermometer app for that?

Windows Phone 7 interview

wp7-logo_6Thank you to everyone that has been following our interview with Microsoft’s Alex Reeve, Director of Mobile Business Group in the UK and to those of you that sent in your questions for Alex.

For those of you that were not able to join us live we had a great followup interview with Alex, it’s incredible to think that it was almost 3 months ago since our last interview with him!

Sorry that we were not able to get to everyone’s questions but below you will see the questions and answers that we were able to cover in the time available. It’s interesting to note that the same questions came from lots of you so those are the ones we made sure to include.

To those of you following live we apologise for the slow start, Twitter decided to fall over just as we got going!

Eken M001 Android tablet rival to iPad?

eken-m001 Rumours abound at the moment when it comes to tablet style devices, with rumours from RIM, HTC and just about every other manufacturer out there.

One little gem that one of our readers pointed out to me (thanks Mike) is the Eken M001 Android tablet. Looks pretty interesting, reasonably high-res 7″ 480×800 TFT display, SD card reader, WiFi, 600MHz CPU and 128MB RAM. The drawback is that it’s only running Android 1.6 but the biggest plus point is perhaps that the rumours say that it’ll retail for around $100, if that’s true and not just vapourware then this could be a real bargain and a great competitor to the iPad!

What do we think, real or fake?

HTC Wildfire preview video

HTC Wildfire_Brown_Front_per_gallery20100507 Earlier today we broke the news that the HTC Wildfire has been announced. Last week I had a decent hands on with the device and what I can tell you is it is real sweet. It’s no contender for the Legend, Desire or Nexus One but it is not meant to be. The HTC Wildfires target market will be young adults who may currently be using a feature phone. The Wildfire will be a budget Android device, a nice stepping stone to a smartphone.

Sporting HTCs Sense UI, the Wildfire is as user friendly as we have come to expect from HTC. Hardware wise we have some decent specs on this cost effective new device.  I say cost effective as that’s what I have been told by HTC. We will have to wait and see what prices the networks charge but if I was a gambling man I would bet the HTC Wildfire to be £15-£20 per month on a contract. We will have to wait and see.

Below is a quick video I shot of the HTC Wildfire just to give you a brief insight. We will let you know as soon as we get our hands on a review device. I don’t think it will be long!

HTC Smart unboxing and demo video

Smart-main Back in February of this year HTC announced 4 new handsets at MWC in Barcelona, we’ve already seen and reviewed the first three of those handsets, the HTC Desire, HTC Legend and HTC HD mini. This is the new HTC Smart, the fourth of those handsets to be announced.

The HTC Smart is, I believe, the first HTC handset not to feature either Windows Mobile or Android and instead runs on the Brew Mobile Platform. The Smart, like all the other HTC devices at the moment, still comes with the Sense UI and upon initial inspection you would perhaps find it hard to determine that it wasn’t running one of the more mainstream operating systems.

The HTC Smart is perhaps then a more entry-level handset and I suspect that will be reflected in the eventual sale price. It does however, seem to bring a number of Smartphone features to a more ‘feature phone’ handset. At the moment it looks like the Smart will be exclusive to O2 here in the UK and it doesn’t even look like we’ll see a SIM-free version.

As always, we’ll be writing up our full review of the HTC Smart which will be here for you, all being well, early next week. For now you can have a look at my unboxing and brief demo video below. I’ll also have more video for you soon.

Sony NAS-Z200DIR review

sony-z200 Let’s not beat around the bush, the Sony NAS-Z200DIR multimedia HiFi is a beast both in terms of performance and sheer size.  Measuring over half a meter in length (535mm to be precise), you’ll want to make space for this piece of audio kit.

Over the years my home audio setup has declined with the introduction of digital media.  Most of my music listening is now done through the PC and apart from a recent purchase of an iPod dock for the kitchen, the only other audio hardware I own is a radio alarm clock by the side of the bed.  So surrounded by tiny audio sources, the Sony NAS-Z200DIR HiFi was like rediscovering music all over again.

HP Officejet Pro 8000 review

10641-277hpofficejetpro8000600 As I tend to run the office side of the tracyandmatt operation I’m frequently printing documents, postage label etc. and for the past few years we’ve used an HP Colour Laserjet printer for the day-to-day tasks. The issue with that is it can take quite a while to turn on and warm up and the first page out of the printer can take 5 minutes or more. It’s also a beast of a printer sitting here in the office.

Laserjet printers are great for speed and quality but the print cartridges can work out to be quite pricy so when our required two new colour cartridges the other week it was going to be an expensive purchase. However the folks over at IT247.com have impeccable timing and contacted Matt that very week and offered to send us the HP Officejet Pro 8000 to review.

Having set up the printer and used it now for a few weeks it’s time to tell you what I think of it.

LG GW620 Review

GW620-open-angled We have here the first effort from LG at making their handsets as ‘Smartphone like’ as possible as they have incorporated the android 1.5 OS into this handset to try and spice the market up a little. Has this attempt worked?

So should you buy a handset like this which, in terms of hardware, has a pretty decent specification that seems at first to be somewhat let down by an older version of Android being utilised?

Read on for my full review and let’s see what I think of it!
