Extended batteries from Mugen Power

hli-desirezsl_1

With Smartphones becoming more and more advanced we are still let down by one piece of technology and that is batteries. Some devices are better than others but getting through a full day seems to be an issue with some handsets with Android being the most problematic these days.

There is a solution though and that is purchasing an extended battery. The guys at Mugen Power were kind enough to send me over a couple of batteries to put through there paces.

First off was a battery for the HTC Incredible S. Mugen offer two different batteries for the Incredible S. First is a 3600mAp battery which comes with a new battery cover as the battery is clearly bigger than the stock one. The second, and the one I had , was the 1800 mAp extended battery which has the same dimensions as the stock battery and therefore does not require a new battery cover. The stock battery that comes with the HTC Incredible S is 1450 mAh so if you are struggling to get through the day it may be a good option to get this one as it will give you an extra 350 mAp but without any extra bulk.

Amazing camera-phone photos

nokia_n8 And you thought phones were just for talking to your mates. These amazing photographs prove how technologically advanced the current wave of smart phones have become.

Renowned aerial photographer Jason Hawkes travelled around Britain in a helicopter, taking aerial photographs of landmarks and the landscape using only the 12-megapixel camera of a Nokia N8 smartphone.

Hawkes set out to capture the UK’s most stunning locations in five days using only the Nokia N8 as his main camera for Nokia’s HD Horizons project. The campaign was launched to prove that the best camera you have is the one you have on you all the time – and we think that Nokia proved their point.

Consumers ‘held hostage’ by SIM-locked phones

giffgaff_002 Mobile users are being “held hostage” by their provider because of the cost of unlocking their phones to switch to other providers, a recent report claims.

The report shows that the majority of people using unlocked phones is due to “consumer confusion” surrounding the issue, with almost a third not sure if it is legal to change to a different provider.

The survey, which was carried out by YouGov amongst 2019 adults on behalf of MVNO GiffGaff, showed that consumers are missing out on the “best deals” and that they wanted more information on how to “unlock” their mobile when they bought them.

Our old friend Mike Fairman, chief executive of giffgaff, said: “Consumers risk being held hostage by their mobile network to the tune of £400 million simply to switch networks with their existing phone. The practice of selling mobile phones locked to one network, or Sim-locking as it is known in the industry, is having a big impact on consumers’ ability to get the best deal on the market.”

The report also claimed that consumers were currently charged around £17 to switch networks meaning this service alone could be worth millions to the mobile phone industry.

HTC Flyer Unboxing Video

HTC Flyer 3 views

First announced at Mobile World Congress back in February the HTC Flyer is the companies first attempt at jumping into the tablet market. Packed with the all so familiar HTC Sense, the Flyers user interface will be very familiar to many, although it does have a few additional new features now.

With a 1.5GHz processor and running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) the new tablet certainly has the specification good enough to compete with the other popular 7 inch tablets already on the market and with the HTC brand now being so common could this itself help with the Flyers sales?

The new ‘Scribe Technology’ will certainly appeal to some. Could the HTC Flyer be a business mans new best friend?

Of course we will have a full review in the near future but in the meantime you can check out our unboxing video below along with the HTC Flyers full specs.

Samsung Galaxy S II flying off the shelves in the UK

Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100_04

Samsung Electronics has announced it has had global pre-orders of more than 3 million for the Galaxy S II, having reached the milestone at the end of April, before the smartphone even hit UK stores on 1 May. Since hitting the shelves the handset has proved a huge success with UK consumers.

David Johnson, Head of Devices Commercial and Product Management at O2 comments: “More and more of our customers are looking to move to smartphones and, as the home of the smartphone, we’re keen to bring them a range of the best devices to suit any budget. The Samsung Galaxy S II has been a real hit with customers and, alongside the rest of our Samsung Galaxy range, gives customers another way to experience the unique O2 and Samsung Take That offer.”
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “The Galaxy S II, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy S and Galaxy Mini have all exceeded expectations. There are three things we want our Galaxy range to stand out for – superb hardware, the latest OS and the greatest and most relevant content. Above all, we work very hard to make sure people are getting the best smartphone experience, and so it’s great to see products like the Galaxy S II proving to be so in demand.”

The Samsung Galaxy S II is Samsung’s slimmest and lightest smartphone yet. It’s the first handset to offer Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus screen technology the largest, brightest and most colourful screen available in Samsung’s portfolio of devices, making it the best screen for viewing movies, games, TV and apps. Super slim (8.49mm) and lightweight (116g) with a long battery life, the Galaxy S II also features an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording and playback.
The Samsung Galaxy S II is now available in the UK across all major networks and retailers.

Gingerbread to roll out May 16th for HTC Desire HD and Incredible S

gingerbread-1

It has not been perfectly clear exactly when HTC’s Desire HD and Incredible S were due to get the update to Gingerbread but thanks to a statement on the HTC UK Facebook page we only only have a few days left to wait.

This is what they said:

Hey guys, firstly we want to thank you all for being so patient about the Gingerbread update. We’ve been pushing this really hard and are pleased to announce that we are aiming to have the HTC Gingerbread update for unlocked HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S models available on 16th May 2011. For those waiting for their specific operator update, rest assured that we’re working very closely with each operator to get this just right and will update you as soon as we possibly can. Once again, we really appreciate your support and patience on this.

As an Incredible S owner myself I shall be eagerly awaiting the update. Roll on Monday.
