If you are in the market for a new top end Smartphone or tablet then you may want to consider Vodafone. Their ‘coming soon’ page on the site is busting at the seams with all the good stuff from our top manufactures.

Although the handsets are not yet released you do get the opportunity to sign up for updates so at least when the device does become available you will get notified.

Head on over to the Vodafone site or you can see the full range of ‘coming soon’ phones and tablets after the break.

We will of course have full reviews of all the below devices in due course.

Navita Translator for BlackBerry

Navita2

Last week we showed you a demo video of Google Translator for the iPhone. I didn’t realise at the time that there is an equivalent app for the BlackBerry too, called Navita Translator.

Navita does much the same as Google Translate and you get a vast range of languages to choose from. And if you don’t fancy trying to pronounce the sentence you have translated you can get the app to speak it for you. The app integrates both Google and Bing Translate and there is also a dictionary section although it wouldn’t work for me today.

You can get Navita Translator fro free in BlackBerry App World. It’s a real must if you are going travelling.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 review

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 reviewThe Xperia X8 was unboxed a good few months ago, but now here is the review with one small but important difference. It’s now running the 2.1 Éclair update which may not be the latest but it’s still better than 1.6 was. That has now brought it up to scratch with other options for cheapish midrange Android handsets, but it’s not alone – the likes of the Wildfire and the San Francisco sell like hotcakes, a trend which Sony Ericsson would no doubt like the X8 to follow.

The X8 slots in somewhere in-between the daddy X10 and the X10 mini & mini pro but with specs more like the minis, its actually a very similar experience but in a slightly larger form factor and that could well be a good thing. The X10 minis received excellent reviews with the main criticism that it was too small – but the X8 is the answer to that call.

Does it have enough to compete? Read on to find out!

Windows 8 Tablets due in Q4 this year

windows-7-tabletSome say that Windows 8 tablets using ARM processors could be out before the years end. Business Insider’s sources claim that Microsoft has thousands of engineers which have been working on the ARM version of Windows 8. It has already been leaked that Windows 8 will be more tablet-centric and touch friendly.

Windows 7 tablets have been critised for two main problems. Firstly, an unrefined touch interface. The few tablets on the market now seem to not only be less responsive than Android or Ipad alternatives but also fairly fiddly. Windows also seems to suck up battery life at an alarming rate. These are the precise two things that Windows 8 will combat. The ability for Windows 8 to run on ARM processors should allow the platform to match Android and Apple tablets with their 10 hours or more battery lives.

Some companies have managed to make Windows 7 quite a pleasent experience, for example Viewsonic’s Vpad 10 which I had the pleasure of playing with at MWC. This tablet had Windows as the front runner and ran Android 2.2 on top, with Meego as a option they plan to shoehorn in.

It will be great to see Windows shaking up the mix. Windows 7 proved to be a strong operating system and if Windows 8 is an improvement, with the support behind it, Microsoft has the potential to be a market leader.

BlackBerry Dakota revealed

BlackBerry-Montana-Compass This isn’t the first we’ve heard of it before, but the folks at N4BB.com have landed themselves a suite of images of the new yet-to-be-announced ‘Bold Touch’ – running on OS 6.1, it has a 2.8 inch VGA touchscreen, magnetometer, accelerometer, 5MP camera, and a Near Field Communications chip that’s all the rage right now. The particular model that N4BB picked up had 6.5GB of inbuilt storage and half a gig of RAM.

Despite retaining the distinctive BlackBerry look, it has a few nice touches that we haven’t seen before such as the glowing trackpad and the carbon fibre back; the overall design clearly takes a leaf out of the old Bold’s book so it should please those Bold 9000 fans that a worthy successor is just around the corner.

Google Nexus S unboxing video

NexusS_GT_338 Google announced the Nexus S, the follow up to their first own-branded Nexus One phone, a while but here in the UK it started off as an exclusive to the Carphone Warehouse. However, from this week you’ll be able to pick up the Nexus S from a number of other retailers. We got our review model from Clove Technology.

You may recall my review of the Nexus One last year and that I was a big fan of the phone at the time, HTC did a good job with the build quality but with the launch of their own HTC Desire, complete with HTC Sense, my Nexus One was soon left behind.

This time around Google have partnered with Samsung and there are certainly hints of Galaxy S in the Nexus S, similar black plastic design and similar foot print. To me the Nexus S feels a little too plastic but the curved Super AMOLED screen is truly eye-catching.

As you’ve now com to expect, we have an unboxing video of the Nexus S below and we’ll be back soon with a full review.

HTC’s MWC 2011 press event video

pressevent Many of you will know that we were at MWC this year and invited to HTC’s press event. We were kindly allowed to record the event so here below you’ll find the full video of the event. You’ll see what we saw as the announcements unfolded one at a time including HTC Flyer, HTC Desire S, HTC Incredible S, HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa and, not forgetting, the HTC Wildfire S

It’s a really long video, one of the longest we’ve ever uploaded to YouTube and, despite some careful editing, the run time is still over 1 hour! Transferring the video, which is in HD, has taken a while so sorry for the delay in getting this online.

Sit back and enjoy!

BlackBerry Monaco caught on video

storm3 We first saw rumours of the possible BlackBerry Storm 3 back in December and then the leaked BlackBerry roadmap was spotted in January showing a handset codenamed Monaco that appeared to be the Storm 3.

The guys over at CrackBerry.com have managed to grab a copy of a video that apparently shows the Monaco in action.

Whether or not it will eventually carry the storm name we’re not sure but it does look like a nice step up in the touchscreen department.

Check out the video and specs below.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Shown of in White, Coming to O2

11x0218983senplay

Personally  I don’t get the point of white phones. They look tacky and cheap in my opinion but for those who like white will be able to get their fix with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play aka, the playstation phone. The white Xperia Play will be an exclusive to O2 but we don’t as of yet, we don’t have a release date of either coloured model.

Check out Gareth’s demo video of the Xperia Play from CES below as well as some more pictures below…
