Android Reaches Another Milestone: Motorola Milestone 2 Announced

After the success of the original Milestone and the XT720, the Milestone 2 has just been given the go ahead by Motorola. The Milestone 2 is the GSM version of the Droid 2 which was released in the states a few weeks ago but with a few major differences. for example, the Milestone has 720p video recording unlike its American cousin. However, Motorola had to screw us over some how and they’ve done it by putting MotoBlur on it rather than stock Android. Yes, I know what you are thinking, why Motorola why?

But otherwise the Milestone 2 and the Droid 2 are pretty much exactly the same. They both support a 3.7″ capacitive touchscreen at a resolution of 854 x 400, a 1GHz processor, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5-Megapixel camera and 8Gb of internal storage. See more pics and a video after the break.

Motorola announce the Milestone 2

Milestone2_L3Qtr_open_Browser_EMEA-540x447

This morning Motorola have unveiled the Milestone 2 for the European market.

Sporting a 3.7-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen, Android 2.2, 5-megapixel camera and slide-out QWERTY keyboard and with improved and redesigned keys the sequel to the original Milestone looks to a great device. One difference between the two is that now Motorola have decided to add MotoBlur onto the Milestone 2. In my opinion this is not a great move but it is one of those things that comes down to personal preference.

As you will see below the Milestone 2 has a superb range of features and specs. I am quite looking forward to testing this one out. As long as I can turn off the MotoBlur!

The #NokiaBox typing challenge

nokia_c6_3As you’ll no doubt know by now, we’ve been playing with the new Nokia C6 and as part of the #NokiaBox challenge we’ve been asked to demonstrate just how fast we can tap out the message “the quick brown fox jumped over the NokiaBox”. My part of the challenge is to use the touchscreen and the numeric pad to tap out the message, EmKwan will be using the hardware QWERTY. Our times will be combined to set out entry.

So here’s my attempt:

Size matters – Hannspree go the extra inches in the tablet race

hannspree-tab While others are content to tempt the public with a mere seven inches, Hannspree have stepped up to the fold and revealed a tablet that offers a full three inches more.  First shown today at Berlin’s IFA expo, the 10″ device has an LED backlit 16:9 screen with the standard 1024 x 600 resolution (however it’s not yet clear if the screen is resistive or capacitive).  On a more interesting note is Hannspree’s decision to pack its slab with Nvidia’s very capable Tegra 2 chipset to power its Android 2.2 OS.  Its also armed with a raft of input and outputs including  Mini USB and Mini HDMI ports – perfect for PMP action, especially with it’s 3500mAh giving up to 8hrs playback.  Given its size, power and software, this certainly could be a device to watch.

Hannspree are planning to release the unnamed device in Europe in November at €399 for a 16GB / WiFi model and a 3G variant for €499, a price competitive to similar fruity products.

New Nano coming, old problem going for Apple?

204536-ipodnanoscreen_180 There’s growing evidence to support the possibility of the imminent release of a sixth generation iPod Nano.  Various leaks over the past few months detailed on Apple blog Appleinsider.com has shown the device to likely be a 1.2″ square device, a hybrid of the Nano’s screen and the Shuffle’s form factor.  With limited physical buttons beyond a + and – set of button and the hold switch, it would appear touch to be the order of the day, and rumours speculate this touch screen to be capacitive and possibly with a simplified iPod touch interface.  It’ll still retain the iPod docking connector but just how well it will sit in the users various docks isn’t clear but leaked silicone cases point towards a slim device which shouldn’t have much of an issue.

Further rumours abound that Apple is to release a revised iPhone 4 device, fixing the antenna non-issue.  Among the first lucky Apple-ites who will get this new wunderphone-that-has-had-a-revision-that-isn’t-really-required-as-there-is-nothing-wrong-with-the-original-design will be those provided for by carrier TelCel in Mexico.  Let’s see if it makes it around the world.

Facebook for WebOS gets an update

Facebook_2010-31-08_063944

If you currently use a Palm Pre or Pixi you will be glad to hear that the Facebook app has received an update.

The update brings with it selectable news feeds, revised photo tagging, support for landscape viewing, the ability to clear multiple notifications, and fan pages.

Not having a WebOS device I am unable to test it but I am looking forward to seeing what future devices we get from Palm.

If any of you can let us know of any further changes I have missed please feel free to let us know via the forum.
