HTC Desire on Orange

Desire B

All of the major UK carriers are rolling out the HTC Desire and I have just spoken with our ‘Orange man’ who has confirmed that the HTC Desire has been heading out to their UK stores over the past few days. It will also appear on the orange website later today or tomorrow.

Initially they will stock the brown version but towards the end of April they will have exclusively the nice black version.

The question is can you wait for the black or do you need one now!

Keep an eye on orange.co.uk over the next 24 hours for more details and price plans.

HTC HD2 Car Pack Mini Review

HD2 2

When the HTC HD2 was released it created a huge amount of interest and it still does now, a few months on. There are a few options available for mounting the HD2 in car and here we have a very cost effective option courtesy of mobilefun.co.uk

From a personal prospective I actually use mobillefun for most of my accessories and have always been impressed with the service. Ordering online is painless and on most occasions I have received the purchased items next day. (I’m not being paid to say this!)

As you can imagine there is only so much you can say about an in car phone holder so this will be short and sweet.

If you could do with an in car holder for your HTC HD2 read on after the break.

HTC Desire delayed

htc-desire

Our chums at Clove.co.uk have informed us of yet another delay for the HTC Desire. It’s getting a little silly now, HTC just can’t seem to get this out the door properly. With Andy’s light problems he has outlined on the podcast regarding the Virgin version’s data problems it’s been a bit of a rough start for what is one of the most impressive phones on the market.

We have now been informed by HTC this morning that they are delaying shipments to all SIM-Free E-tailers until next week. This is very frustrating for both you and ourselves, having made so much effort in trying to ensure you receive your Desire as early as possible. The actual shipping date is yet to be confirmed, although HTC expect to start releasing stock on 13 April.

Please be aware this is completely out of our control and will affect all other E-Tailers as well. We will continue to update you with as much information as we can.

We will not be refunding any orders that have already been charged unless requested – this will simply cause further delays next week.

Please accept my personal apologies for this further delay, we only wish we could give you better news. Hopefully you will appreciate we continue to offer the best customer service we can and keep you informed as best we can, even when the news it not what any of us wishes to hear

HTC Desire delayed again!

Desire DW

Oh no, its happened again! Clove have just released the following statement. Not good news.

Having only sent all our customers an email yesterday we have now been informed by HTC this morning that they are delaying shipments to all SIM-Free E-tailers until next week. The actual shipping date is yet to be confirmed, although HTC expect to start releasing stock on 13 April.

Please accept my personal apologies for this further delay, we only wish we could give you better news. Hopefully you will appreciate we continue to offer the best customer service we can and keep you informed as best we can, even when the news it not what any of us wishes to hear.

We will update you all as soon as we get further news.

Apple iPad unboxing and demo video

Apple-iPad-001 I’m sure that by now you will be only too aware that Apple’s latest product, the iPad, went on sale in the USA last Saturday. According to reports 300,000 units have already been sold. If true that’s certainly an impressive number!

Thanks to our friend Ching-Yao Yu from Maryland my iPad arrived here yesterday lunchtime. Impressive service from Fed-Ex as it was posted on Saturday morning so took only three days to get here, and it was a holiday weekend.

The iPad, like many Apple products, seems to be falling in to the Marmite category, either you love it or hate it. After just a few hours using the iPad I can tell you that I am definitely in the love it camp! I’m pretty sure that the iPad will be one of those pieces of technology that will never be far from my side.

Early adopters here in the UK should be aware that the Appstore isn’t yet ready for us and an attempt to sign in using a UK iTunes account will generate an error and a warning that the Appstore is not supported in your country. There is an easy work-around for now and it’s just a matter of time before Apple open this up to us in the UK anyway.

I have the 16GB model here, I thought I would keep things as inexpensive as possible to begin with as I am sure that I’ll be wanting the 3G model when that becomes available later this month.

As ever I have an unboxing video for you and a bit of a demo of a few of the features of the iPad. I’ll come back later with a longer demo video showing off more of the features once I’ve had a chance to get in to it a bit more. Feel free to post your questions on the forum too!

Tesco shelves VoIP

tescovoip Tesco has announced that it will be shelving its VoIP phone service due the lack of customer use.  Their customers have until 27th April to find an alternative and the decision includes both the Internet Phone and Talk Wi-Fi products.

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) lets people make cheap calls via their broadband connection and has been tipped for years to be a serious replacement for standard home phone lines.  Nevertheless VOIP has failed to capture the mainstream UK consumer who has focused their attention on the mobile phone market in last few years.

Tesco is a big player, with a huge mainstream marketplace and if they have found it difficult to find success in VOIP it is likely a sign that the average consumer is not ready for this type of service yet.  This is a significant blow for other providers.

Leon Perry of SynergyOne, a business telephony supplier that specialises in VOIP for business, told us:

"VOIP simply hasn’t found its feet in the consumer market.  Regardless of the cost upsides, the average homeowner just can’t get past the idea that they may need to ‘switch on their computer’ or ‘plug in the VOIP phone’, and picking up their landline or mobile is just so much easier.  It’s a different picture with business VOIP solutions. Businesses are more clued up and prepared for the set up, given the significant cost cuts they could make on their business calls."

Clearly the UK consumer is a long way from accepting VOIP, and in the meantime businesses are driving forward this technology.  We’ll have to watch this space for the future of consumer VOIP.

Sony Ericsson Aspen review

Aspen-main-image In comes the phone call from Matt as usual, “I’ve done the unboxing, (which can be seen here) want to play with the Aspen?”, so I had a look around to make sure it wasn’t just another Sony Ericsson release, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a full fixed QWERTY phone that had passed me by. Being a fan of the HTC Snap, it looked interesting enough to have a play.

Will it shape up? From the off, it has to be mentioned that this is a prototype model and comes with no bells and whistles, not even any cables (I had to scrounge a microUSB off Matt), manuals, CD’s or anything, so forgive me if I miss any benefits that could be hidden as my usual trawl through the user guide is not possible at this moment.

I also would imagine that the final could well be tweaked and updated as time goes on towards the actual release date, which according to the Sony Ericsson website states that “You’ll be able to get your hands on the Sony Ericsson Aspen within 6 months”.

Android review: Armageddon Squadron

0

To date there have been many addictive Android games and they have all relied on content over style. Rarely has a game struck me for it graphical accomplishments. Armageddon Squadron is ambitious but does it soar to new heights or crash and burn?
