HTC HD2 delayed?

Ok this one is very much an unconfirmed rumour but today I had an email from two different sources saying that they’ve been told that the HTC Touch HD2 is subject to some delays and will not launch on the 11th of November as expected.

Now, while it is possible that the HD2 has been delayed, other HTC handsets have been subject to launch delays in the past, I must emphasise that we have not had any official confirmation about the delay, in much the same way that there is no official launch date for the HD2 as yet.

If you have any news about the HTC HD2 that you would like to share with us then please do get in touch using either our contact page above or else via the forum.

Don’t worry, as soon as we have any HD2 news we’ll be sure to share it with you and likewise, as soon as we get our hands on the HD2 we’ll have an unboxing video and review for you.

EDIT: News just in from Devicewire. The due date for the HTC HD2 has not changed as far as they are aware, it should still be the 11th November. However, stock will be ridiculously low initially so you are urged to pre-order.

Additional stock will not arrive until 2 weeks after the original shipment and the the car kit wont be available till January 2010!

In terms of the positives, there is a 2GB memory card and a pouch case included with the handset.

WebOS 1.3 to be released worldwide by November 15th?

palm-pre-webos-phone

So we found out today that the Pixi’s official launch date is going to be November 15th at the fairly low price of $99.99. Well this news can only mean one thing. WebOS 1.3 is around the corner! We saw in all the press releases that the Palm Pixi already has included with it a Facebook app which was developed by Palm themselves and Yahoo integration into Synergy allowing for you to add your Yahoo friends to chat with and contacts into your contacts app. Well the Pre doesn’t have this yet. When Engadget’s, Joshua Topolsky was given the demo of the Pixi, he asked if these new apps and Yahoo integration would be included on the Pre as well and the gentleman said yes the Pre will not be left out. We also heard a rumor from a website that reviewed the German version of the Pre that WebOS version parady would happen sometime in mid November. So this means an update is definitely coming. Whether there will be any other features added is uncertain at this point but, if you look at the length of time between each .1 update we have received in the past we are actually overdue for 1.3. So keep your eyes peeled for WebOS 1.3 news in the coming weeks because we are pretty confident it is on the way.

HTC HD2 Now very almost nearly on o2 website

 hd2o2websitecomeonnow

Gah! Come on o2, this is like.. torture or something. The HTC HD2. We all know how good it is. Since the announcement we’ve been hunched over our laptops, furiously watching videos and drooling at the early reviews.
Now it’s taken another (tiny) step closer, with the HTC HD2 available to select in the o2 accessories section. Sure, the phone itself still isn’t on the site (some Palm Pre thing is getting in the way), but it’s a little glimmer of hope for those of us waiting to get a hold of the real thing.

HTC Tattoo retail unboxing video

There’s a good chance that you will have already seen my earlier HTC Tattoo unboxing video but the handset that we unboxed last week was a pre-release unit and although it was final hardware/software the box and contents were fairly generic so having got my hands on the retails version courtesy of our friends at Clove Technology, I thought I’d record a quick follow up unboxing video showing the full retail device so that there would be no question mark over what is supplied in the box etc.

I’m not covering the handset in a great deal of detail in this video as it is the same as the other version we looked at so if you want to check out the OS and user interface please have a look at the other video.

HTC unveils global advertising campaign

HTC Brand Quietly Brilliant

New HTC Logo

If you watched “X Factor” last night in the UK you may of noticed an advert for HTC pop up. Well, this is part or there new advertising campaign being rolled across 20 countries in the coming weeks. The adverts centre around the tagline “You don’t need to get a phone. You need a phone that gets you”.

Its great to see HTC doing there first global campaign. Recently we have seen adverts for specific phones like the HTC Hero but this is he first time HTC are promoting there whole brand.

HTC Advert

“Quietly brilliant is doing great things in a humble way, with the belief that the best things in life can only be experienced, not explained,” said John Wang, chief marketing officer, HTC Corporation. “The YOU campaign is the perfect embodiment of ‘quietly brilliant’ and is core to HTC as a company, innovator and partner.”

The YOU campaign is focused on driving broad, global visibility and understanding of HTC’s unique brand promise – that it’s all about YOU, the consumer, and in fact not the device. HTC worked with Los Angeles-based advertising agency, Deutsch LA Inc. to create the YOU campaign that will employ an integrated-media approach to reach consumers via television, print, outdoor and online.  HTC’s design expertise will be echoed throughout the campaign, with commercial spots highlighting the unique functionality of HTC smartphones. If you are looking to boost your marketing efficiency as they did, consider checking out this IDX broker.

“We’ve come to have a very emotional relationship with our phones. Many of our key experiences in any given day come through this one device and yet most of the advertising in the category is still about utility,” says Eric Hirshberg, co-CEO and chief creative officer, Deutsch LA. “HTC’s whole design philosophy is very personal. They make phones where your experience is completely unique, so we think there is a connection between how people feel about their phones and how HTC makes them.”

HTC worked with London-based creative consultancy, FigTree to create the quietly brilliant brand positioning.   The ‘quietly brilliant’ positioning was inspired by HTC’s culture of putting customers first, born from a heritage of creating breakthrough products and continued innovation. As part of HTC’s culture, the “quietly brilliant” positioning will be rolled out in all forms of communication and brand touch points across the company.

“Some of life’s most brilliant ideas started with a simple doodle on the back of a napkin,” said Simon Myers, CEO of FigTree. “HTC’s new look uses this visual language of doodles to explain all the quietly brilliant features and benefits of HTC devices in a simple and human way.”

I’m looking forward to seeing what else HTC have up there sleeve.

Orange to offer iPhone from November 10

orangeiphone

Potential iPhone customers in the UK this morning are learning that Orange will offer Apple’s device on its network from November 10.

The Times informs that’s the day after O2’s exclusive contract with Apple to offer the phone in the UK comes to an end. Over 200,000 UK customers are thought to have signed-up for information on the device when it reaches the network.

Orange has still not revealed prices or tariffs on the device, with analysts split as to whether new competitiveness in the UK market will see a price war on the product emerge.

Vodafone will also offer the iPhone in the UK starting next year, while the UK’s smallest operator, 3, has also said it hopes to begin selling iPhones by mid-2010.

It is interesting to reflect that during the Mac User Awards (a UK Mac publication) which were hosted on October 22 a series of nominations and awards were read out. While most nominations were met with friendly applause by the industry crowd gathered at the event, a nomination for O2 (as an ISP) was met with a very awkward silence. Perhaps the most picquant criticism of industry reaction to O2 iPhone network coverage yet.
