There is nothing more frustrating than being on holiday and not being able to ask for something in the native language. That is where Google Translate for the iPhone comes in handy. In fact, maybe invaluable.
As you will see in the video, the application allows you to choose from an array of languages and within a second or two have a translation. And if you don’t fancy trying to pronounce the words in the the other language you can get the iPhone to do it for you.
A simple application but in my opinion a pure genius one.

The new HTC 7 Pro only surfaced a few weeks ago but it was the next logical progression for HTC and Windows Phone 7. As with many other HTC handsets that have gone before the ‘Pro’ designation signifies the sliding QWERTY keyboard and just like the HTC Touch Pro 2 the QWERTY keyboard on the HTC 7 Pro has a tilt mechanism.
HTC haven’t been too stingy on the other features either, there’s a 1GHz CPU, 576MB RAM and 512MB ROM and on top of that 8GB of internal storage. Add on the almost obligatory GPS, WiFi and 5 megapixel camera the HTC 7 Pro starts to stack up to being a great little, or not so little, handset.
As always, we’ll have a full review of the HTC 7 Pro for you once we’ve had a chance to thoroughly use the features. For now have a look at the unboxing video below which includes a few minutes looking at the OS.
There are lots of Bluetooth keyboards out there that will work with the iPhone and literally thousands of iPhone cases, however, the Boxwave Keyboard Buddy is different in that it combines the two and turns the iPhone 4 in to a sliding QWERTY-keyboarded device.
The design is pretty neat, the front portion has a clip-on case similar to many other iPhone cases but then there’s the spring loaded sliding keyboard mechanism on the back. The keyboard works over Bluetooth and has it’s own battery and power control. It also has a claimed 45 day battery life which sounds awesome.
Of course, adding a keyboard to you iPhone will add some bulk and some weight but if you really want a physical keyboard I’m sure you will be willing to make the compromise.
Check out the short video below to see the Boxwave Keyboard Buddy iPhone 4 Case close up.
Sony Ericsson have posted the full length TV advert for the Xperia Play on their YouTube channel. As you will see the advert is rather odd, although kind of clever.
In addition, via Facebook, Sony Ericsson have also conformed that the official announcement will be at Mobile World Congress on February 13th. We will be there so be sure to check the site for some up to date info.

RIM have this week released another video this time demonstrating the bridge between the PlayBook and a BlackBerry Smartphone. If you are not aware how this works I will explain the basics.
The PlayBook does not (currently) have its own PIN so BBM will not work until the device is paired, via Bluetooth, with a BlackBerry. Once done the PlayBook will then be able to be used for BBM, Calendar, email etc. However, once the connected between the two devices is broken all traces of the calendar and email will not be visible on the PlayBook. Now, although some people may snub this it is certainly great for security. In the unfortunate situation that your PlayBook is stolen your personal emails and calendar will not be accessible by the bad guys as they wont even be on the PlayBook!

With the likes of Android and Apples iOS now steaming upwards in Smartphone market share we mustn’t forget the good old trusty BlackBerry. Shunned by many the BlackBerry is still an invaluable solution for millions of business users around the world.
Here in the UK, O2 are still great believers in the BlackBerry Smartphone solution when it comes to running a business. They have just released the below video to emphasize their beliefs and if you listen to our podcast you will know that I too am a huge fan of BlackBerry and I manage not only this site but my day to day business on my BlackBerry.
O2 currently have six BlackBerry Smartphones in their current line up, available on contract and on pay as you go.
Check out the video below and if you are considering using a BlackBerry why not head on over to the O2 website and see what they have to offer.
Ever wanted just a particular section of a music track as your ringtone? Maybe the chorus or a guitar riff? Well if you use a BlackBerry you can do just that by using Ringtone Remix. The application will allow you to select any part of a music track and use it as your ring tone. The length is up to you. It can be two seconds or 2 minutes.
As you will see in the demo video, achieving the remix is pretty straight forward and a quick process. Using the application for the first time can be a little frustrating as the controls are rather sensitive but be patient, you will adjust.
The application will not be up everybody’s street and I didn’t think it would be up mine but for the last week I have had a remix as my ringtone and it’s here to stay!
Ringtone Remix can be found in BlackBerry App World. Either search on your BlackBerry or click here if on a PC/Mac.

If you’ve been to our site much in the past of have watched many of our unboxing videos then you’ll probably know that we’re quite fond of Sanyo’s Xactia range of HD camcorders. In fact we have been using a Xacti HD1010 to record our unboxing videos for the past few years. I like the quality of the recordings and the convenience of the SD card and standard MP4 video format makes it easy to use and edit the footage.
A few days ago Sanyo sent us their latest Xacti CA100. Similar in design to their previous pistol-grip style cameras the CA100 offers 1080P video recording and is waterproof to a depth of 3m. This is a good improvement over earlier waterproof models, such as the CA9, which were limited to 720P and waterproof to a depth of just 1.5 metres. Oh and the zoom is up from 5x to 12x as well.
There are numerous other enhancements but we’ll cover those when we get to the full review in about a week or so. For now enjoy the unboxing video below, recorded on the HD1010.
As promised when I did the unboxing video, below you will find a brief demo video of the Samsung Galaxy Player. I have been using the device for a week or so and although the full review is coming soon a video is always a bonus.
As you will see the device is pretty good when it comes to media and using the web browser but I have had some hiccups when it comes to playing games that I downloaded from the Android Market.
As a rival to the Apple iPod you will also see me compare the two devices side by side and conduct a little web browsing experiment to see which of the two loads web pages the quickest. You will have to watch to see the result!
