Sony Xperia Go unboxing video

sony-xperia-go-2 Yet another Android smartphone hitting the market with the Xperia name on it, this time the Xperia Go. This one is a little different though with a stand-out feature of being IP67 rated which makes it waterproof and good for up to 30 minutes submerged in 1m of water.

In terms of the rest of the spec it’s something of a mixed bag in my opinion. The 1GHz dual-core CPU and 512MB RAM keep things humming along at a reasonable clip but then we look to the screen and find a rather limiting QVGA (320×480) display the likes of which we haven’t seen in smartphones of this ilk in some time.

Then there’s the matter of the OS that the Xperia Go is shipping with. Presumably in a bid to get the handset to market on time, Sony have decided to ship the Go with Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the promise of an update to 4.0 ‘soon’. This may put potential punters off, especially considering the track record of the X10 and X10 mini OS updates.

However, with all that said, the Xperia Go still represents good value for money considering the performance and durability features. Currently under £200 from Clove Technology.

As always, you can check out the unboxing and demo video below and we’ll be back soon with a full review.

Tokyoflash Kisai Online unboxing video

online_black_natural1 Something a little different for a Sunday morning. A couple of days ago I got my new watch from Tokyoflash. Tokyoflash is a company specialising in cool and unusual timepieces. Rather then conventional dials or LCD number displays the watches from Tokyoflash have many different ways of displaying the time from coloured LEDs with binary representations of the time to LCD segments and blocks.

The watch I picked up is the Kisai Online. This one has a series of LCD lines across the display that also run all the way around the stainless steel wristband. These looks like lines on a circuit board. However, when you turn the watch to face you, as you would when you turn your wrist towards you to see the time, the display updates and the lines on the ‘circuit’ move to reveal the numbers that tell the time. The numbers are a little abstract so takes a little getting used to but look great!

Have a little look at the unboxing/demo video below for more and then check out Tokyoflash.com

ZTE Grand X unboxing video

zte-grand-x We first saw the ZTE Grand X when James attended the launch event last month. The initial impression was that this new ZTE handset represented great value for money bringing features and spec that you’d commonly find in higher-end devices while maintaining a relatively budget price tag.

With a 4.3″ display, dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, 8 Megapixel camera and 4GB of internal memory, the Grand X is probably the least expensive smartphone to be able to deliver on this specification.

Performance-wise the ZTE Grand X doesn’t disappoint as you’ll be able to see in the unboxing and demo video below.

Motorola RAZR hands-on video

RAZR There have been a few devices from Motorola to bare the name RAZR over the years but this latest offering from Moto is, in fact, a sweet looking Android touch-screen slab.

The Motorola RAZR, also know as the Motorola Droid RAZR (in the US), is a brand new super-thin Android phone that not only offers a solid build and stylish design, but a range of powerful features and accessories.

Measuring just 7.1mm in thickness, the Motorola RAZR is one of the thinnest smartphones on the market. Slimmer than the Samsung Galaxy S II and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, which are slim handsets anyway.

So keen were Motorola to make the RAZR special, they have in fact made the back of the device with Kevlar (the material in bulletproof vests) fibre, to keep size and weight to a minimum but increase strength and rigidity in the phone. So that is the back protected, what about the front? Well Corning Gorilla Glass protects the Super AMOLED Advanced screen that sits below it. Super strong, this glass will protect the device against scratches and scrapes that would normally damage any other display.

Oh, and in case that was not enough, they have coated the RAZR with a nano technology which makes the device splash-proof. Spill water, coffee, beer or out in the rain the device will resist all of these. (Please note, the RAZR is not waterproof and is not designed for immersion in water. Ports are exposed and have no covers).

Pleasing to the eye, the RAZR is also extremely powerful. An evolution of Motorola’s other dual-core device, the Motorola ATRIX, the lightening fast Motorola RAZR rocks a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and with 1GB of RAM, it really does pack a powerful punch.

So what else is special about this top of the range superphone? It comes with a stunning display – 4.3" Super AMOLED Advanced with a 960 x 540 resolution. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G capability, an 8MP camera with 1080p video recording and a front facing camera for video calling.

Lots of features often equals a lot of power use, but with the RAZR, there is a massive 1780mAh battery that will ensure it lasts the whole working day (on average) – all of this in a device 7.1mm thick!

Record HD video content with the 8 megapixel camera in 1080p content. Sit your device in a HD dock (sold separatley) and control it using a wireless keyboard and mouse or Smart Controller (sold separately) and watch the content back on a HD display.

This new phone from Motorola runs Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) Operating System but will be compatible with the new version of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). However, not only does it offer the latest features of the Android operating system, but a range of features that have been developed by Motorola specifically for its own handsets.

Check out the video below.

Huawei Ascend G300 Unboxing Video

huawei-ascend-g300

The Huawei Ascend G 300 has been available on Vodafone for a few months now but it wasn’t until the other day that I realised we hadn’t reviewed it yet. A quick phone call and it was here.

While the G 300 may not be able to take on the big boys in the Android wars, such as the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III, it does have one BIG advantage over them. Its price. You can pick up the Huawei Ascend G300 from Vodafone on Pay As You Go for a mere £100.

That will give you a 4 inch display, a 1GHz CPU, Android 2.3 and all the other standard features of a modern smartphone. You can check out the unboxing video below and we will have a full review in the next week or so.

BlackBerry Tag video – rather amusing

The below video cropped up on YouTube last night. It hasn’t been published RIM themselves so I can’t confirm its validity but either way it is jolly funny. The video focuses on using the BlackBerry Tag feature which allows users to share information using NFC. Should RIM go down the comedy route with marketing?

Feligan PowerBrick unboxing video

feligan There’s no shortage of power and charging solutions out there for mobile devices, indeed we have looked at several of these in the past including those from PowerMat as well as lesser known small companies.

This time I’m taking a look at the PowerBrick from the Italian based company Feligan.

The PowerBrick system has space for up to 6 different charging ‘blocks’ boasting compatibility with Apple, Nokia, Samsung, HTC, Kindle, LG, Motorola… the list goes on. When you buy the PowerBrick you get to choose the 6 power connectors that you would like to to be configured with.

It doesn’t just stop with the 6 connectors though. On the front of the unit you’ll find an additional 2 USB sockets that allow you to plug in those bespoke-type power cables that come with some devices. And as if that isn’t enough there’s also two mains-power sockets to boot that you can use to plug in other power adapters. These also allow you to plug in adapters from other countries, accepting UK, European, US and Australian style plugs to name a few.

In the video below you can see a quick unbox of the one I ordered.
