Silver BlackBerry Curve 8520 on Orange

8520 Silver

I just spotted this as ‘coming soon’ over on the Orange website. While the BlackBerry Curve 8520 maybe a low end device compared to the BlackBerry Bold we must not forget that for under £150 on PAYG and then only £5 per month for the BlackBerry Internet Service the Curve 8520 is a real bargain.

Orange to stock iPhone 4

iphone4 I’m sure that by now you will have heard all about the iPhone 4 which was announced yesterday at Apple’s WWDC event. It was a mammoth two hour presentation during which Steve Jobs spoke about all the new hardware features of iPhone 4 as well as the new version of the iPhone OS which will now be know as iOS4.

The question that almost everyone has at the moment is when can I buy one and how much will it cost. Well you’ll be able to pre-order from the 15th June and the iPhone 4 will start shipping on the 24th June – not long at all.

In a tweet last night, our friend Conor from Orange confirmed that Orange will indeed have iPhone 4:

Great news folks – Orange UK to launch iPhone 4 on June 24th – not too long to wait!

We hope to have more news throughout today so please stay tuned!

iPhone 4 announced

iPhone 4

The much anticipated iPhone 4 has just been officially announced in the States at Apples WWDC event.

While the new name, iPhone 4, clearly didn’t take too much brain storming I am okay with it. Just like Apple to keep it simple.

So lets cut to the chase and tell you what is new with iPhone 4 which should be launching June 24th.

Here are the juicy bits:

The stainless steel band around the iPhone 4 is an antenna system.

3.5 inch screen but with a retina display. 326 pixels per inch which Apple claim is actually more than the human eye can see.

7 hours 3G talk, 6 hours 3G browsing, 10 hours Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours video, 40 hours of music, and 300 hours of standby.

A4 processor like in the iPad.

New iPhone day has arrived

Apple

Today is the day that millions of Apple fans have been waiting for. WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developer Conference) kicks off in the States and top of the announcements will be the new iPhone. We have seen some leaked info already but it will be great to hear the official spec and also what it will be called. Will it be 4G or HD or something totally new?

As well as the iPhone we should also see some Mac announcements as well as some App news. Exciting stuff.

Rather than me waffle on, why not check back with us after 6PM (UK) tonight for some news hot off the press.

New BlackBerry Bold 9800 pictures

9800 1

We have seen leaked images of the BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider before and at first it looked a bit odd, then a bit better and now in these new images it looks fantastic. Well I think so!

As you will see from the pictures below RIM have once again given this new member of the Bold family the special treatment and build quality looks as good as the Bold 9700.

Putting BlackBerry 6 OS aside the device looks to be the perfect combination of a touchscreen smartphone with a sliding physical keyboard. Palm could not pull off this form factor with any great success with the Pre and Pre Plus so the question is can RIM?

I personally cannot wait to get my hands on one of these beauties.

Dell Streak on O2 from tomorrow!

dellstreak News just in from one of our readers suggests that the Dell Streak could may be on sale in the O2 stores from tomorrow morning (4th June). This now seems to have been confirmed on the O2 blog so quite why they have yet to send out full press releases is anyone’s guess.

This is much sooner than we thought we’d see this new wonder device from Dell as it was merely weeks ago that details of the tablet first surfaced. I’ll be in touch with our friends over at O2 in the morning to find out more about the Dell streak and to see when we’ll be able to get our hands on one to review. Looking forward to seeing this one in the flesh!

More details from O2 after the break…

HP not to carry on making Palm smartphones

Palm

It looks like we may not see many new Palm phones in the future I am afraid.

HP’s CEO Mark Hurd spoke yesterday at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Technology conference and what he had to say was not encouraging.

Hurd reportedly said that HP isn’t going to ‘spend billions of dollars trying to get into the smartphone business; that doesn’t in any way make any sense.’

To add insult to smartphone injury, Hurd continued ‘We didn’t buy Palm to be in the smartphone business. And I tell people that, but it doesn’t seem to resonate well.’

So what many of us thought would happen is going to happen. It looks like HP bought Palm purely for the WEB OS and that is what they will roll out within millions of HP products. Having the WEB OS on handhelds is not a bad thing as it is a great OS. It’s just a real shame that it doesn’t look like the OS will be implemented into many smartphones, if any.

Is this foolish of HP? I think so. With the right hardware and right OS we all know that it can be an extremely profitable business. Just look how far HTC has come on over the past few years.

Although not massive Palm fans both Matt and myself have both owned Palm devices in the past and we will be sorry to see the company disappear from the smartphone market.

Leaked picture of the BlackBerry Curve 9300

blackberry-curve-9300-1

With the BlackBerry Pearl 3G set to arrive in the next week or so I just stumbled upon a nice article over at crackberry.com. A secret spy has managed to get hold of some pictures of the next generation BlackBerry Curve, the 9300.

The main change I can see here is the chrome bezel around the outer edge. This is not present on the curve 8520 (and 8530 in the USA). The BlackBerry Curve 9300 is believed to retain the lower res 320×240 display which is a shame but it will come with Wi-Fi and 3G as standard and that is a big bonus.

The device is clearly in its early stages as the screen shots below shows it with 256MB of memory vs.. the 512MB newer devices are getting. Also this device is running version 5.0 which will hopefully be upgraded to BlackBerry 6 in time for an official announcement.

Motorola announces the FLIPOUT

image008 I’m not sure what Motorola’s fascination with adding the Flip-name to recent devices but in a press release today (which you can see in full below) they came out to announce the Motorola FLIPOUT, their latest flippy handset to feature MOTOBLUR as seen on the Dext here in the UK and the Droid and Cliq in the US.

Motorola are sensibly sticking with Android for this new device and it will ship with 2.1.

It’s a rather unconventional looking design but does it remind anyone of a certain strange Nokia device that we see a few years ago?! I’m interested to see ho robust the mechanism will be on this new device.

Launch date is said to be Q2 of this year so that means sometime this month basically. We’ll obviously do our best to get our hands on one as soon as we can!

BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 get priced at Vodafone

9105 Voda

I am hoping we will get to see the BlackBerry 9105 in the next week or so. Vodafone will have it for sure and it looks like the device will be free from £25 per month on a 24 month contract. Good news for the phone but not so good for the contract length.

The price of £25 per month is the same as you would expect to pay for a BlackBerry Bold 9700 and frankly I am not surprised. The 9105 has the same power as the 9700 just in a different form factor.

I have a sneaky suspicion this new BlackBerry is going to sell rather well.

Unboxing video and review will be here soon.
