Nokia Lumia 710 Review

lumia710 Nokia have been and quite possibly still are one of the most influential manufacturers of mobile phones to date, so when they announced that they were struggling this surprised me a lot, as they were at one time (before Apple’s dominance) the number 1 mobile phone company in the world! But then they announced that were partnering with Microsoft to make Windows Phone their ‘Flagship’ Operating system, I was quite worried for them at this point because of the Windows platform being so young at this point.

Then there was the huge announcement of 2 brand new Nokia Windows Phones! My worry started to fade as what I saw was the Lumia 800 which is their flagship device for the moment and the phone that I have here.the Lumia 710, this basically is just a slightly smaller, thicker, cheaper version of its sibling as it has the same processor and operating system but in cheaper packaging.

How did the little sibling perform during testing?

To find out you will have to read on, but only after you’ve made sure to watch the unboxing video of this lovely little phone.

Motorola Motoluxe Review

Motorola Motoluxe Review In the past Motorola have released some let’s say ‘interesting’ devices that haven’t necessarily done that well in general. However they have recently announced and released a new smartphone with a whole new look, the product in question is named the Motoluxe, which admittedly isn’t the most attractive name but the question is:

Is the phone more attractive than its name? And is it any good for today’s market?

To find out the answers to those questions and any of your own you will have to read on, and just to note if you haven’t done so already I would take a look at James’s unboxing video for a rundown of specifications and a quick look around the device before you read this review.

Xperia Play loses the support

Bought the Xperia Play? It’s going to stay just as you have it. Unfortunately Sony have announced that achieving a consistent and stable experience with Android 4.0 on the Xperia Play wasn’t something that they could successfully make happen after all their in-house testing. Whilst most of the other phones launched around the same time frame will be receiving an update the Play is is being cast aside into a dark and murky corner beside many of the other devices Sony have discarded. Say ‘Hi’ to the Mylo from us!

"In regards to Xperia PLAY, after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich – therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia PLAY."

"This decision was also verified when we received similar feedback from the developer community; both experienced developers and advanced users, along with game content providers following our ICS beta ROM for unlocked Xperia PLAY smartphones."

"Our priority has and always will be, to provide the best possible user experience on Xperia smartphones. In this instance the ICS upgrade would have compromised stability, where we look to ensure a quality gaming experience with games optimized and developed for Xperia PLAY."

BlackBerry Curve 9320 Review

BlackBerry Curve 9320 Review

The BlackBerry Curve 9320 may not be the BlackBerry Smartphone that is hitting the headlines at the moment due to it being a low end, budget device but that doesn’t mean it will not be popular. In fact, here in the UK it is quite possible that the 9320 may be 2012’s best selling Smartphone?

For the last two years RIM have claimed the title of most handsets sold in Great Britain and with the youth of today all carrying a BlackBerry, the Curve 9320 is the perfect successor to the Curve 8520 and 9300 that have proved so popular.

Available sim free from only £130 and on contact from £10.50 a month the BlackBerry Curve 9320 is both affordable and should be the perfect reason to keep the 8520/9300 users on Team BlackBerry.

Running BlackBerry 7.1 the 9320 doesn’t have the highest specs but due to it having the most up to date software it runs like a dream.

If you are in the market for the cheapest, best communication device yet I suggest you read on.

BlackBerry Curve 9320 UK Carrier Prices

BlackBerry Curve 9320_Black_ENGuk_FrontWith the BlackBerry Curve 9320 launching imminently I thought it may be a good idea to let you have all the carrier prices that have been sent to me in one convenient place. There are not massive differences but some offers are certainly a little more attractive. The other thing to remember if you are picking up the new Curve is to not just go with the cheapest deal but to check you have good network coverage at home/work or school.

I have been hands on with the new device today and I can honestly say it is a massive improvement over the 8520/9300 that have done so well here in the UK. There should be no reason why our teenagers should not stay Team BlackBerry.

The BlackBerrey Curve 9320 is a beauty!

T-Mobile UK  will have the 9320 available free from £15.50 per month on a 24 month plan, or for £149.99 on pay as you go.

Carphone Warehouse will have the handset from free on £20.50 per month contract and SIM free from £129.95 in black.

Orange UK is pleased to announce that it will shortly be offering the BlackBerry 9320 free from £10.50 per month on a 24 month plan, or for £139.99 on pay as you go.

Three are charging a respectable £139.99 on PAYG. All in One 15 costs £15 and gives 30-day access to all-you-can-eat data along with 300 any-network minutes and 3,000 texts. Or All in One 25 costs £25 and offers 500 minutes, 3,000 texts and all-you-can-eat data for a 30-day period.

Vodafone are still to confirm prices at this stage I’m afraid but this post will be updated as soon as they let me know their plan of action.

HTC Sensation XE review (Running Android 4.0)

HTC Sensation XELast year HTC experienced a massive loss in the smartphone market due to poor sales and a lack of brand awareness. This was in part due to the massive success of the Samsung Galaxy S2 which pretty stormed the Android market for 2012. However, one phone that I believe really went under the radar was the HTC Sensation which boasted very similar specs to the Samsung Galaxy S2 and had a more sturdy design, but yet didn’t sell as HTC would have liked. HTC then brought out the XE and XL versions, both with Beats and both with beautiful form factors.

Today I’m going to review the HTC Sensation XE after it’s Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade and show you a phone that was massively underrated last year.

Facewatch ID – Spotting Crimminals

unnamed1

A NEW app for mobile phones is available that asks the public to help in identifying thousands of images relating to low level crimes from across London in a bid to increase the number of wanted identifications made.

The Metropolitan Police Service has provided more than 2,000 images for use by the Facewatch app, which was launched on Tuesday 17 April and is available on BlackBerry, Android and Apple smartphones.

The app enables the user to enter their local postcode and then view a selection of unidentified images of potential suspects and witnesses that the police would like to talk to. If an image is known to the viewer they have the opportunity to enter a name and or address that is confidentially conveyed to the police.

The app has already been responsible for the identification of 29 people during its trial among police officers over the past two months.

Borough Comander Gary Buttercase said: “Officers leave no stone unturned when they are looking for a suspect. Any new tools developed through technological advancement that are made available to us in the fight against crime are a welcome addition. Apps such as this one have the potential to save a lot of Police time. I would urge everyone to view these images and name those pictured to help make our borough and our capital city even safer. Helping us to identify people could remove a criminal from your area.”
