Google Android event highlights – UK release in November

image Well it looks as though PC Magazine had this one spot on with this being a feature phone and not a smartphone, it has been confirmed today that the latest Google Android G1 handset will have no exchange support, no A2DP, can only read office docs like word, excel and powerpoint with no ability to create the documents. No skype support and it will sync over the air to only Google Services. No desktop client is available and you cannot tether it to your laptop as a modem.

T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) To Feature Amazon MP3 Store

If you have been digging around for news recently on this handset then you probably have already seen this but if not Amazon just announced that its MP3 music store will be pre-loaded as an application on the T-Mobile G1. Users will be able to search, download, buy and play music from Amazon MP3, that’s a selection of 6 million DRM-free MP3 songs from all four major labels and many independents. The pre-loaded Amazon MP3 application provides G1 owners with a phone-optimised view of the Amazon MP3 store. WiFi is required to search, browse, listen to samples, and buy tracks at a cost of around $0.89 with most albums priced between $5.99 and $9.99. This obviously, at this stage will not be on the UK Version when it gets here as the Amazon MP3 store has not yet launched in the UK (sort it out Amazon).

HTC G1 (Dream) – Specs & Official Photo Leak?

OK So with just over 8 hours to go until the official release of the HTC G1 on T-Mobile I have seen loads of articles, breaking news alerts and so on about this device.

Here are a few things I’ve heard so far. The G1 will only be released on T-Mobile in USA for the time being, not such a big surprise in itself but there is rumour that it will also be released in the UK on T-Mobile pretty soon too. Personally I find this a strange move by  HTC given that the UK normally never lag behind the US in classy phones so why HTC, why?

HTC G1 2

HTC G1 (Dream)

Here are the specs on the device and what’s known so far:

  • In-store, immediate sales only available in stores within 5 miles of a 3G covered area. If a store is beyond that range, representatives will walk customers through a T-mobile.com purchase
  • One touch access to: Search, Maps, Gmail, Youtube, Calendar, and Google Talk
  • Gmail account and data plan required
  • GPS
  • 3.1 mp camera, no video recording
  • No stereo bluetooth (A2DP)
  • Dimensions: 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 in
  • Weighs 5.6 ounces
  • 480×320 65K color screen
  • 5 hour talk time, 130 hour talk time
  • Expandable up to 8GB

What else have we been able to find? Well on the US my.t-mobile.com page after login a splash screen was found featuring the G1 handset. The bad news on that is that is was a dead link.

As the news breaks today on this handset we will bring it straight to you.

Brodit holder for iPhone 3G review

image Just wanted to put up a quick review of a car mounting solution that I consider to be the best by far of any solution I have come across so far. Its called a Brodit Mount and is a two part solution when matched with a Pro-Clip. If like me you want a mounting solution that does not involve screwing holders into your dashboard then check out this great solution.

Android is a feature phone not a smartphone

image According to PC Magazine’s Lance Ulanoff Android’s true target isn’t the 19 percent of phones running OS’s, like BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Mac OS. It’s the other 81 percent of phones, which aren’t smartphones and run operating systems you’ve never heard of like Nucleus and P2K. This large part of the market we call feature phones has become more and more powerful, hardware-wise, over the past few years.
