Orange voted number one for mobile broadband

Orange has achieved the number one position in customer experience in the mobile broadband market according to an in-depth report commissioned by independent research and consulting organisation, YouGov. The report highlights that Orange has bolstered its customer satisfaction ratings, winning customers over with its outstanding network performance. Specific emphasis is placed on Orange network reliability at any point during the day or night, its network coverage reach, and its ability to deliver a continuous mobile broadband connection. After the announcement laid out by Tom Alexander, Orange is also identified as being the most improved network operator currently in the market.

Simpsons take a shot at Apple

The Simpsons have taken a shot at Apple fanboys this week and it is really worth a watch even if you are an iPhone, iPod or Mac lover. I am not a huge Simpsons fan but this one had me laughing. They substitute Apple for Mapple and Steve Jobs for Steve Mobs we have the clips after the break. Check them out and see what I mean.

10,000 iPhone apps now available

According to 148apps, there are now 10,000 iPhone apps available in the App Store. Out of that number, only 24% are free, but that’s still a considerable amount that translates to 2411 apps. Since September of this year, application submissions per month were consistently more than 2,000.

QiGi i6 officially supports both Android and Windows Mobile

When it comes to mobile phones, China is perhaps best known for its copycat handsets. You know them – looking like the originals but offering fewer features and a build quality that makes them un-recommendable. However, QiGi i6, one of the latest smartphones to come from China and is nothing like that. It’s a quite nicely-designed device.

Push notifications coming in iPhone 2.2.1 ?

RussianiPhone.ru claims that they have seen iPhone 2.2.1 Beta 1 and that it implements Push notifications as well as over-the-air MobileMe syncing with Notes support. As proof they’ve posted a screenshot showing the Notes and Calendar applications with update badges displayed. Developers and users have been anxiously awaiting the release of this new feature. In the current iPhone firmware, applications are not allowed to run any background tasks. As a result, an application like an Instant Messaging application would be unable to notify the user that a new message had arrived. Push notifications would provide the tools to trigger these alerts.

Get your TouchFlo 3D in the festive mood

Hackers get Linux on iPhone

According to the blog.iphone-dev.org website, one of its members has reverse engineered Apple’s hardware drivers and managed to port a version of Linux to both the iPhone and iPod touch. So far, so good, but the downside is that this is really just the first step. There are no Linux drivers yet for the actual phone side of things, sound or Wi-Fi, nor does the touchscreen work yet. In other words, you’re not going to be able to do anything much with your Linux iPhone yet. However, if the comments on the community website are anything to go by, it can’t be long before those wrinkles are all ironed out and the hackers move on to the next project. Android, anyone?
