ZTE announce the Grand X

1

Today in London saw ZTE launch their latest Android offering; the Grand X. Running Android 4.0, sporting a 4.3 qHD display and a  NVIDIA Tegra 2 1GHz processor the device may not have the best specs but for under £200 on pay as you go it looks rather appealing.

The device is planned for release next month (August) and will initially be available through Virgin Mobile and Phones 4U.

I got hands on with the device earlier today and it is pretty sweet. The design and build quality look great and speed wise it was pretty nippy. With the price so low I suspect ZTE may well be on to a winner with the Grand X.

Let us know your thoughts in the forum. You can catch the full press release and a few more photos below.

Campaign launched to stop mobile contract price increases

Ofcom-logo

Which has launched a new campaign after they discovered that 70% of consumers don’t know that mobile companies are entitled to increase charges at any point they wish during a mobile contract. A complaint has been submitted to Ofcom with a view to contracts having fixed rates for the period. With all the UK networks now pushing customer towards two year if would certainly be nice to have fixed rates for the term.

Today sees Three implement an increase of 3.6% on many of its customers which with the financial state many people are in will have a knock on affect.

Which have stated that: We estimate that with around 10.5 million adults affected by these price rises so far, consumers have already spent nearly £34.5m extra on phone contracts. Over 12 months this could make up to £90m for mobile phone companies.

Let’s see what Ofcom say. It could get interesting.

BlackBerry Tag video – rather amusing

The below video cropped up on YouTube last night. It hasn’t been published RIM themselves so I can’t confirm its validity but either way it is jolly funny. The video focuses on using the BlackBerry Tag feature which allows users to share information using NFC. Should RIM go down the comedy route with marketing?

New to the iPad – ‘London – A City Through Time’

IMG_0399

Fancy buffing up on your knowledge about London? This new iPad app looks to be the perfect tool to do just that.

Oscar nominated and Emmy Award winning director, Richard Loncraine (of Band of Brothers fame) has developed an iPad app called ‘London – A City Through Time’ that offers the most advanced and complete digital portfolio of London ever produced.

In an effort to reinvent Pan McMillan’s London Encyclopedia and make learning about London fun and engaging, Loncraine developed the app in partnership with the Museum of London to create an indispensable 2,000-year reference to the world’s most complex city using modern technology for a progressive audience.

Some of the key features include:

  • 6,000 full text articles on London’s cityscape
  • 2,000 rare prints including works of art, portraits, watercolours and etchings
  • HD zoomable images allowing users to view panoramas of London – both through time and today
  • Dynamic timelines detailing history from the 17th century to the present day
  • A plethora of interactive activities that both engage and educate users

You can see a demo video of the app in action below:
