Dell Streak on O2 from tomorrow!

dellstreak News just in from one of our readers suggests that the Dell Streak could may be on sale in the O2 stores from tomorrow morning (4th June). This now seems to have been confirmed on the O2 blog so quite why they have yet to send out full press releases is anyone’s guess.

This is much sooner than we thought we’d see this new wonder device from Dell as it was merely weeks ago that details of the tablet first surfaced. I’ll be in touch with our friends over at O2 in the morning to find out more about the Dell streak and to see when we’ll be able to get our hands on one to review. Looking forward to seeing this one in the flesh!

More details from O2 after the break…

Motorola announces the FLIPOUT

image008 I’m not sure what Motorola’s fascination with adding the Flip-name to recent devices but in a press release today (which you can see in full below) they came out to announce the Motorola FLIPOUT, their latest flippy handset to feature MOTOBLUR as seen on the Dext here in the UK and the Droid and Cliq in the US.

Motorola are sensibly sticking with Android for this new device and it will ship with 2.1.

It’s a rather unconventional looking design but does it remind anyone of a certain strange Nokia device that we see a few years ago?! I’m interested to see ho robust the mechanism will be on this new device.

Launch date is said to be Q2 of this year so that means sometime this month basically. We’ll obviously do our best to get our hands on one as soon as we can!

Qualcomm to add dual-core power to HTC Mondrian?

mondrian We recently heard that Qualcomm had increased the clock speed of their Snapdragon CPU’s up to 1.2GHz and had started to manufacture a dual core version that we believe could find a home in the rumoured HTC Mondrian.

The Mondrian is certainly said to be a powerhouse and the Snapdragon should have the horsepower to run the 24bit WXGA 800×1280 screen, 1080p video playback and 3D graphics engine.

The only thing that slightly puts me off the Mondrian, in terms of what we are hearing so far, is that it’ll be a Windows Phone 7 device rather than Android. Personally I’ve already fallen out of love with WP7 and we’ve not even used it yet!

To put the Mondrian’s power in to a little perspective, Apple’s iPad has ‘only’ a 1GHz CPU as does the HTC Desire and while it’s not all about the clock speed I expect that the Mondrian with a Dual Core 1.2GHz Snapdragon will be the most powerful handheld. For a little while anyway!

Acer Liquid E Ferrari special edition

Acer Liquid E Ferrari_fronte e retro.def We heard about the ‘E’ version of the Acer Liquid a while ago and today Acer came out with an announcement that there will be a special Farrari edition of the Liquid E.

I’ve been using an Acer Liquid for several months and recently upgraded it to Android 2.1 which essentially makes it a Liquid E and I have to say that I am extremely impressed with it both in terms of it’s performance in in terms of the value for money costing a little over £250 for a 3.5″ screen Android powered device – brilliant. I’ll be interested to see what else Acer plan to do with the Liquid range in future, but I’m not sure that the shocking red suits me! Time will tell.

Read on after the jump for the official press release.

Adapt Mobile Micro Bluetooth Keyboard video

Adapt-angled A few weeks ago I looked at the Freedom Pro Bluetooth keyboard which I think was a great solution for anyone wanting to add a full-size QWERTY keyboard to virtually any mobile device, including the Apple iPad. However, if you want something a little more compact and portable the Micro Bluetooth Keyboard from Adapt Mobile might prove to be a bit more pocketable.

The ADK-100 Micro Bluetooth Keyboard is pretty small, roughly the same footprint as the iPhone for example and weighs just 40 grams. It does however offer 5 rows of pretty decently sized keys. It seems to be a good trade-off being small enough to hold on your hands for two-thumb typing but also large enough to place on the desk to touch-type.

The Micro Bluetooth Keyboard is compatible with most Bluetooth devices from the iPad and iPhone to Windows Mobile and Android. It’ll even with with Playstation3 and PC’s so offers a great deal of versatility.

Check out the video below for a quick unbox and demo of the keyboard in action.

iPad on sale in UK today!

Apple iPad So how many of you are planning to go and queue at your local Apple store today in a bid to get your hands on the much coveted iPad? Anyone reading this waiting in line?

Tracy, James and I have had our iPad’s for about a month or so now and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we love them. I rarely use my Macbook when I am out and about now, the iPad can do much of what I would otherwise use a laptop for, in fact I’m sitting on the sofa right now writing this post from the iPad and my recent HTC Smart review was written entirely on the iPad! And emails from James and Tracy almost always bare the phrase ‘Sent from my iPad’ in the footer.

If you care to share your insights in to the stock levels at local stores etc. then please comment over on the forum.

To those of you that have already been lucky enough to pick up your iPad; are you delighted with your purchase? Which model did you opt for and what apps did you buy already?

We’ll have more accessories and app reviews on site soon too. My must-have at the moment is the camera connection kit. I love being able to look at my just-taken photos on the large screen.

Enjoy playing with your new toys over the long weekend! 🙂

Acer neoTouch P300 review

P300-main For Acer, making itself a known brand in the mobile industry will be difficult task, as with any brand that’s new to the market. Acer already have a small portfolio of both Windows Mobile and Android smartphones available, but none have really been able to capture the media spotlight and secure carrier promotions and subsidies as well as phones from manufacturers more established in the mobile market.

However, their lack of brand image in the phone space doesn’t mean they can’t produce decent phones, so when I received the Acer neoTouch P300 for review, I was eager to see whether their new Windows Mobile powered smartphone can challenge its rivals from the likes of HTC and Samsung.

HTC Smart review

HTC Smart HTC have been releasing new devices with an impressive regularity and this HTC Smart is the fourth device to be launched since all of the major announcements at MWC this year.

The HTC Smart is HTC’s first ‘feature phone’ and their first device to have an OS other than Windows or Android and based instead upon Qualcomm’s BREW platform. BREW is one of those emerging operating systems that is beginning to see greater exposure.

Many have been pointing out that the name ‘Smart’ is a little ironic as it can be argued that this is in reality something of a dumb phone. I’m not sure that’s a fair assessment though, many features of the HTC Smart are on par with the ‘smartphones’ out there and where do you draw the line between ‘dumb’ and ‘smart’?

You’ll have to read on to find out exactly what I think of the HTC Smart!

iPad ‘sold out almost everywhere’

ipadpress If you’ve been following the progress of the Apple iPad in the USA then chances are you’ll already know that not only has it been hugely popular but so popular that, according to a recent survey, it’s sold out in almost three-quarters of all Apple stores in the US.

74% had none available, and 26% had some Wi-Fi models, but no stores had the 3G iPad in stock for immediate purchase. – Gene Munster, analyst.

Whilst I cant claim to have a sample size that’s anything like as large as Munster’s it does ring true with my own experience of trying to purchase an iPad whilst in Florida recently. Having visited the Apple store the day before the 3G model became available I was told that the WiFi version was sold out and that I would have to reserve one for store pick up if I wanted one. I decided to take my chances and try queuing for the 3G on launch day.

I did get lucky with the 3G and managed to buy the last one in the store and walked out a happy man with me 64GB model. Over the course of the next 8 days I tried several other stores to try and get another for a friend but everywhere was out of stock!

It’s going to be interesting to see if the iPad is met with the same demand when they go on sale here in the UK this coming Friday (28th May). Judging by the number of people willing to import them from the US I suspect that demand here will be just the same!
