A selection of Samsung Galaxy phones announced

Earlier today Samsung announced its new naming strategy for its Galaxy range of smartphones. In addition, Samsung announced four new members of the Galaxy smartphone family: the Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy W, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro, all of which run on the powerful Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile OS.

Samsung has created a new system of naming its Galaxy smartphones, focused on its ever-expanding portfolio of industry-leading Android smartphones. The new naming structure will organise and group devices into five classes identified by a single alphabetical letter. Devices will then be further designated by an additional indicator which will identify specific functionality. The new strategy aims to help consumers identify the specification of the product they are buying quickly and easily.

INRIX Traffic App

Going for a drive? Why not use INRIX to check for traffic jams?

The way that we plan our journeys has changed dramatically in the last ten years. The tattered A-Z road maps have been discarded to the bottom of the car boot, replaced by smartphone apps and in-car sat-navs. The problem with these is that while they can be handy for navigation, they don’t actually help you avoid traffic. This is set to change with the launch of the free, INRIX Traffic application, available across BlackBerry , Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms. The ad-free, handy app provides real-time traffic information and traffic forecasts allowing motorists to better plan their trips and save time, fuel and avoid unexpected delays along the way. If a person gets involved in a road accident, he can contact a salt lake city car accident lawyer to assist him and address the unfortunate situation. You can also hop over to the Leppard Law website when you need help from a criminal defense lawyer.

INRIX Traffic is a powerful app which gives users unparalleled insight into traffic conditions. Traffic information is crowd-sourced from the largest traffic network in the world and combined with traditional road sensor data, accident and incident reports to provide drivers with information they can rely on to find the best way to go.  The cleverest thing? INRIX’s unique predictive technology analyses common traffic-impacting factors such as day of the week, season, holidays and related days, current and forecasted weather, accidents and road works and unique local events like concerts and football matches to provide traffic forecasts up to 8 hours in advance. As U.K. motorists spend an average of 46 hours a year idle in traffic, download INRIX Traffic and start saving time, money and fuel today.

INRIX Traffic is available to download from BlackBerry App World, Android Market, iTunes and also on Windows Phone.

Moto Fire

I have not been too impressed with the recent Android devices that come in this form factor. However as the Motorola FIRE has a 2.8 inch screen things may well change.

The fashionable Motorola FIRE smartphone offers a full QWERTY keyboard with touchscreen display and ultimate personalisation options users expect from the fun and versatile Android platform. The Motorola FIRE is expected to be available in the UK towards the end of September.

Its full QWERTY keyboard and 2.8-inch touchscreen display provide the perfect combination of tools for emailing, texting and browsing the Web. Users can stay in constant contact with friends and family through the world’s leading social media applications.

Motorola FIRE also comes with best-in-class battery life, allowing users to talk, browse the Web, text, play games and videos all day long. Motorola FIRE also has the Moto Switch user interface, which allows users to switch to a friends-centric mode when they finish work and head home for the day

BlackBerry Curve 9360 – Hands on video

Screen Shot 2011-08-23 at 12.11.18

I popped along to the press event held by Research in Motion today to check out the new BlackBerry Curve 9360. Running BlackBerry 7 and with some improved specs such as screen resolution, camera and a 800mhz processor this new addition to the Curve family looks to be a huge hit.

With the BlackBerry Curve being the best selling Smartphone in the UK the big question will be ‘is how much is this one going to cost?’ As yet I cannot answer that as it will depend on the carrier but it has to fall in line with the current 3G Curve, the 9300.

As soon as we can get our hands on a review device we will of course bring you an unboxing video as well as the full review but in the meantime you can see my hands on video from today below.

Nokia X7 Review

Nokia-X7 When I was asked to review the X7 I was quite excited to see the changes that the latest update to the Symbian operating system brought to the table. My first smartphone was a Nokia and I had pretty much every new flagship device up to and including the N95. I’ve since moved on to be a confirmed iOS user with the occasional use of the systems (even WebOS!) but I have ignored Nokia’s devices since the 5800 showed how, in my opinion, not to do a touch interface.

Nokia’s X7 was launched at the same times as the new version of its Symbian mobile platform, Anna. Together with the E6, the X7 is shipping with Anna preloaded. Many Nokia and Symbian fans out there will love this smartphone as it has a fair crack at finally delivering a usable touch based interface.

Is the X7 an alternative and does Symbian Anna have what it takes to compete with Android, Windows Phone or iOS?
