N97 to be slower than you’d expect

n97-processor1

Oh boy. In the past there has been a lot of talk about Nokia’s upcoming flagship N97 and why it has some difficulties keeping its apps up and running, and now we have official word as to the likely reason — it’s powered by an ARM 11 processor that clocks in at a limp 434MHz. Seriously.

SAMSUNG INTRODUCES NEW DIGITAL MEMORY CARD CAMCORDER

New Samsung SMX-C10 Offers Industry-Leading Style, Design and Ease-of-Use

30th April 2009 – Samsung, leaders in innovation and digital imaging, today extended its family of digital camcorders announcing the launch of the SMX-C10, the new ergonomically designed, compact digital camcorder offering industry leading style and design.

The new SMX-C10 features Samsung’s stylish design with a touch of colour that was first introduced in the company’s flat panel HDTVs. With a touch of colour design, a hint of colour is naturally blended into a deep black body for an attractive appearance.

The SMX-C10 is ideal for the on-the-go consumer and offers an impressive 10x optical zoom paired with Hyper Image Stabilization, a feature which helps reduce blurry footage. The SMX-C10 also uses a 230,000-dot, swivelling 2.7-inch wide LCD screen, allowing you to effortlessly frame your subjects and review your footage.

Similar to the full-HD HMX-R10, the new SMX-C10 boasts Samsung’s Active Angle Lens. This unique design helps reduce fatigue by allowing consumers to grip the camcorder in a more relaxed manner, easing the overall stress on your wrist and elbow. Unlike traditional camcorders, the relaxed grip also removes the LCD screen from your line of sight, enabling you to always keep an eye on your subject while recording.

The SMX-C10 also incorporates Samsung’s play-edit-sharing program called intelli studio. The built-in intelli-studio program allows consumers to connect the camcorder to any computer via USB and edit and play your video without having to install supporting software. Intelli-studio also facilitates the process of uploading your content to popular video sharing Web sites and for convenience, a one-touch “upload” button provides a direct connection to YouTubeT, further reducing the number of steps needed to upload footage. In addition, the camcorder also allows basic on-camera editing, including the ability to merge and split video files.

"The SMX-C10 is a truly unique camcorder, starting with its eye-catching design,” said Paul Scott, Camcorder Product Manager at Samsung Electronics.

“With its ultra-compact, ergonomic and stylish design, the camcorder offers a host of advanced, yet easy-to-use capabilities that encourage you to integrate video recording into your everyday digital lifestyles.”

Thanks to H.264 compression, which drastically enhances recording times when used with standard definition video, you can record over three hours of high quality video footage on the 8GB card. In addition, the SMX-C10 also offers substantial battery life providing more than two hours and 40 minutes of record time on a single charge.

Samsung also enhances the video recording experience for end-users thanks to several unique features, including time-lapse recording, animated thumbnails and a versatile charging system. Time-lapse recording allows you to program the camcorder to record at a pre-set interval of one image every one, three, five, 10, 15 or 30 seconds. Time-lapse recording is especially useful for condensing extremely long events, such as rolling clouds on a sunny day, into a short, easy to-view video.

Samsung’s animated thumbnail feature simplifies the way you search for video clips. Each video clip saved on the camcorder is represented by a small thumbnail on the LCD screen. When scrolling through one’s videos, each thumbnail will provide a short playback of the video file when highlighted. The SMX-C10 also features a versatile charging system; you can either recharge the battery by connecting the camcorder to the supplied AC adapter or via USB while the camcorder is connected to a computer.

The SMX-C10 will be available from leading high street and online retailers from May 2009. Customers requiring further information should call 0845 726 7864 or visit samsungcamcorder.co.uk/

Tiger Woods PGA Tour video review

IMG_0085 I have been playing with Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the iPhone for a few days now and have put together a video showing how the application looks, what content it has and a look at the game play and control systems which are very important on golf games. Overall impression of the game is excellent, the graphics are superb and smooth. Game play is very intuitive and the swing mechanism is easy to learn but not to master so the game has plenty of longevity. I have experienced a couple of freezes and crashes back to the home screen of the iPhone but the good thing is if it does do that ,when you reload the game it starts where it left off so don’t worry if your a stroke ahead of Tiger with two holes left and it crashes.

Take a look at the video after the break:-

SplashPhoto has been available for several other platforms before SplashData released it for iPhone, so we were excited to get an app that would allow us to upload photos to FlickR.

When we started it for the first time, the annoying message about getting location appears:

HTC Snap Inner Circle screenshot

image HTC will soon release the HTC Snap Windows Mobile Standard smartphone and one of the new features will be the Inner Circle. Inner Circle allows messages from preset contacts to be filtered out at the touch of a button, allowing mobile users to readily access important information on the relatively small 2.4-inch 320 x 240 display. This looks fairly easy to set up and HTC have added a nice touch to Windows Mobile Standard.

In short the press release below says that for today only you can surf the internet on the Vodafone network for FREE and starting tomorrow you can browse for a flat rate of 50p per day.

A very good move for Vodafone in my eyes as this now sets the standard for other networks to follow or beat.

30th April 2009

To mark the new flat rate, tomorrow Vodafone customers will be able to browse the internet and pick up emails on their mobiles for free all day. Vodafone’s ‘Freeday’ will be the perfect way for customers to plan their May Bank Holiday while they travel to work on the train, wait for the bus or kill time waiting for friends to join them in the pub. More information about ‘Freeday’ can be found at: www.vodafone.co.uk/freebrowsing

Customers don’t need to do anything to qualify for ‘Freeday’, just simply click on the Vodafone live! or the browser icon in the menu of their phone to get started on the day.

Millions of customers can access the mobile internet using Vodafone’s fast and reliable network. Among the most popular sites Vodafone customers visit are social networking and news sites, with Facebook topping the charts of most visited sites:

HTC Magic Launched

OK, OK dont get excited, the HTC Magic has just launched with no other but Vodafone Spain. But you may not have heard that the coveted Cupcake update (also known as Android OS 1.5) is now available to Android Dev phone users via the HTC website and now OTA for G1 users.

The HTC Magic is the second Android phone by HTC after the HTC Dream (a.k.a. T-Mobile G1). We already reviewed the G1 and we were quite happy with the perspectives for the new mobile OS. There certainly is some missing stuff, but a lot of those misses are taken care for in the latest version of Android called Cupcake. If you happen to own an Android Dev phone, you can get yourselves all dressed up with a new OS by following this link.

However if you don’t own a Dev phone, but you live in Spain, you might as well get yourself the updated OS along with the latest hardware. Not only does the HTC Magic come with all the latest Androidish goodies, but it’s also got a slimmed down waistline by shedding its bulky hardware QWERTY thumboard and it’s now available with Vodafone Spain.

The HTC Magic can now be had only on a 18-month contract from 19 to 199 euro depending on the choice of monthly plan. Whatever your tariff however, there’s an obligatory 12 euro monthly for unlimited browsing as according to Vodafone the handset uses internet connection automatically even without user intervention and having a data plan is a must.

The other good news is that the device will launch on May 5th in the UK on Vodafone.
