Sony Ericsson to launch the Xperia Arc?

sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-gagadget

The word on the street is that Sony Ericsson are to unveil a rather nice new phone tonight at CES. If true, it would appear that SE have really got there act together and produced what looks to be a super new device in the Xperia range, called the Arc.

gagadget.com released the leak earlier today and seem very confident that they have details correct. If so, then the Sony Ericsson Arc will have the following specs.

With a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, 4.2 inch 854×480 display, HD video capture and an 8 megapixel camera the Arc measures only 8.7mm at its narrowest part. Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread the device will be upgradable to Honeycomb which is a major leap forward for Sony Ericsson as long as the updates don’t take forever to arrive.

Hopefully we should get the official word from Sony Ericsson sometime tonight and we will post the official press release here in the morning.

gagadget.com have posted a video of the Sony Ericsson Arc onto Youtube. You can view the video by clicking here.

Sony Ericsson’s Windows Phone 7 plans

SE_xperia_x7_x7_mini

A few sites have posted a Sony Ericsson leak that says that the company plan to release the Xperia X7 and X7 mini in the new year. If these rumours were true these devices would be the first Windows Phone 7 devices that Sony Ericsson release.

I am however, rather reluctant to confirm that these two devices are indeed real. Sony Ericsson will be supporting Windows Phone 7 but I’m not sure if the X7 and X7 mini are names that we should expect too soon, if at all.

Here is the official word from Sony Ericsson regarding future devices.

Sony Ericsson has a multi-platform strategy and an open approach that gives us flexibility and consumers choice. Windows phone remains part of our multiplatform strategy, but as a general policy we do not comment on future product announcements. We currently have Symbian-based phones in our portfolio, but we have no plans to develop new phones on the Symbian operating system.

Palm Pre 2 photos (allegedly)

palm-pre-2

It was only a few days ago that we posted about the possible specs for the Palm Pre 2. Now it would appear some photos have leaked thanks to a French website.

The photos don’t look like too much has changed on the Pre 2 apart from the improved ridge around the keyboard that I always said I could shave with.

Apparently the device is running WebOS 2.0 and has 1GHz with 512mb of RAM

Looks like good news for Palm fans. This could be just what you were looking for.

We have side on photo after the break…

HPalm Pre 2 leaked?!

The image on the right, courtesy of Engadget, is a screen grab of the supposed next generation ‘Pre 2’. The French operator SFR have written on their blog about the new Pre 2. It’s unclear what exactly is happening, that SFR have announced it too early, or that it’s not the new Pre altogether, just a mix up (I hope not!) Regardless of what happened, they have mentioned some tasty specs, including an unspecified 1GHz processor coupled with 512MB of RAM running the new webOS 2.0 show. One of main complaints with the original Pre was the sometimes sluggish (and short-lived) performance and the build quality. Hopefully the new silicon inside will solve the first issue, and the grunt of HP will solve the second. The image seems very similar or even identical in terms of looks and form factor to the first Pre, but whether that’s a good thing or not is debatable.

Keep in mind that this is unconfirmed (they have only made a very general and vague announcement) and could all vanish into the land of vaporware.let’s hope not!

More HD7 Specs Leaked and Caught On Camera

HD7 vs Galaxy S

We had a little break from HD7 leaks, but now they are coming back. As Engadget has received the tip from someone at O2 Germany which fully lifts the lid of the specs of the upcoming HD7 from HTC. Alongside being one of the first phones to be running Windows Phone 7 and having a 4.3″ screen, the tipster confirms a 1GHz processor, 8GB of storage, a 5 megapixel camera with a duel-LED flash, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a kickstand. Interestingly, one of the leaked documents says “Dolby Mobile Sound,” which if true, will be awesome!

The German O2 guy is also saying that the HD7 will launch in Germany in just two weeks for €559 (about £490). See below for the video and more pictures.

iPad gets Tethering in iOS 4 and infiltrated by Google

ipadtethering Although an iPad is more likely to be a tethered device not the device to tether to, Apple have seen fit for the ever-so-useful function to be added to its forthcoming (and long overdue) update for the company’s successful tablet device.  Running in much the same way as the tether on previous iOS devices that offer the function – hidden in the settings – it’s a boon for those with the 3G iPad as their main internet device.  This may sound unlikely but with the iPad no doubt finding its way into student halls up and down the country this autumn, it provides an excellent way of getting devices like the Nintendo DS connected to the cloud, sharing the iPad’s data connection.  Of course this is all subject to the iPad’s airtime provider allowing this in the terms and conditions so don’t go crazy just yet or you may get slapped with a bigger bill than you anticipated.

In other magical and revolutionary device news, an enterprising hacker named Hexxeh has claimed to have injected the iPad with a Google poison.  Sadly not Android but the next best thing – Chome OS.  He’s published a video to dispel the faker comments but beyond this hasn’t given any clue how it’s done.  Speaking personally I’d welcome the chance to break out from the iOS prison and try a few different things out on the undoubtedly excellent Apple hardware, maybe even teach it a new trick or two (but maybe pass on Windows 95)

Windows Phone 7 Coming October 21st?

According to Neowin‘s anonymous sources, (we’ve heard that before) Windows Phone 7 will arrive in France Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK on October 21st and that Microsoft is preparing one hell of a marketing plan to go along side an unveiling of WP7 on October 11th in New York. As Microsoft is supposedly going to partner with a “big London based radio station, ” along side huge amounts of TV, Radio and print ads all over the place throughout October to market WP7 to the General Public.

But as with every rumour, be prepared for disappointment. Yet this one does seem to tie into the supposed October launch said by Microsoft. So all we can do now is hope that we will see WP7 hit the market by this time next month.

HTC Trophy full specs

htctrophy

WMPower user have posted full specs for the HTC Sparks, now better know as the HTC 7 Trophy.

The specs have apparently popped up in Vodafone Germanys inventory although we have nothing official from HTC or Microsoft about this device.

What is interesting about the new picture of the device is the addition on an HTC live tile. Could this be part of Windows Phone 7 HTC Sense that was rumoured a wee while ago?

It won’t be the Sense we are used to but better than nothing as Microsoft initially said there would be no customization at all.

Bring on the WP7 launch!

Full specs after the break (allegedly).

Samsung’s Windows Phone 7 handset caught on video

samwp71 With today belonging to HTC and yesterday to Nokia, it seems a little out of place to get excited by Samsung kit, but this video of the Korean innovator’s new GT-i8700 WP7 device is certainly interesting viewing.  With plenty of pinch-to-zoom action, the video is a good 5 (pixellated) minutes of Redmond’s mobile OS on Samsung presumably flagship WP7 phone.  What does it show us?  Well, the word is smooth here, with all actions from zooming to scrolling and app switching to menus all flowing without any hint of stutter.  The tiles look good and the browser is certainly pleasing to see compared to previous mobile IE’s – let’s face it, that doesn’t mean much!  Windows Phone 7 is certainly proving more intriguing by the day.
