mta-logo If you have not heard us recently on the mobiletechaddicts podcast then don't worry as you will be able to listen in future. As from today, both Matt and myself (James) are officially now co-hosts of the MTA podcast along with regulars Gareth Myles and Andy Lee.

So this means that most weeks you will be able to hear the four of us discussing the previous weeks mobile news and more than likely also talking about any good handsets we have been playing with.

To download or subscribe to the podcast click here.  In addition, if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch then the new mobiletechaddicts app is also available. Click here for more details.

While you are over at mobiletechaddicts.com you may as well check out their competition to win one of two Bluetooth headsets.  How about that for a bonus!

HTC HD2 extended battery pre-order

06/02/10@16:00 by Matt - 257 words

hd2-extended We mentioned the extended battery for the HTC HD2 quite some time ago and you may also recall that we said it would come with a funky kickstand. Images have surfaced on the web and our friends over at Clove Technology have added the product to their site and are offering pre-order.

The battery is 2300mAh, almost double that of the original HD2 battery. It's supplied with a cover that has its own 'kickstand' allowing you to sit the HD2 on your desk in a landscape orientation. Personally I think it's a pretty ugly looking thing that makes the handset rather chunky but I suppose it depends on how you plan to use your handset.

If you fancy picking one up for your HTC HD2 then head over to Clove and pre-order today. Stock is due in March.

It is always good to have a big battery in a smartphone, so that you can work for longer without having to charge the phone. Larger batteries often mean a larger overall size, which isn't for everyone.

However, sometimes the need outweighs the shape, aesthetics and weight of the product.  So if this is the case for you and you own a HTC HD2, this extended 2300mAh battery will be ideal.

An official extended battery for the HTC HD2, this 2300mAh battery comes complete with a replacement back cover, that has a kickstand (allowing you to stand the device up - perfect if watching a film).

LG GW620 (LG Etna) unboxing video

06/02/10@11:01 by Matt - 344 words

We first broke the news of this new Android powered LG handset back in September 2009 when John managed to unearth some photos of the handset while it was still referred to as the LG Etna. The trail turned cold on the Etna for a while until later in 2009 and at the beginning of 2010 when the handset was announced as reportedly coming to Virgin and T-mobile in the UK and the name here would be the LG GW620.

The LG GW620

The LG GW620

At the moment it looks like the GW620 is going to be exclusive to Virgin and T-Mobile, I've not seen anyone offering it SIM-free as yet. (Feel free to tell me if you know any different!) The GW620 looks like a decent handset and the most striking thing for me is the quality of the QWERTY keyboard, it's really on-par with the HTC Touch Pro2 in that department; large individual keys, good layout and 5 rows - all very impressive.

I've had a quick play with this handset already since recording the video below, and quite like it but there are a few niggles. Being only Android 1.5 seems like a real shame when 2.0 and 2.1 handsets fill the rest of the market. 1.5 may have been ok when the handset first surfaced last year but now it's bit behind the times! There are a few other things to tell you about it but you'll have to wait for my review! :)
