Apple to hold iPhone OS 4 event

iPhone 4

Only days after the release of the iPad Apple are keeping us on our toes with the announcement of an iPhone OS 4 event this week on Thursday, 8th April.

Although I’m not an iPhone user this maybe the event that changes my mind. Could we see multi tasking in 4.0? It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

I would love to say I will be at the event but its taking place in the USA so we will have to reply on press releases. We will be sure to keep you in the picture though.

3 hope to increase customer base

3mobile_thumb

Having recently announced they will be rejigging their pay as you go tarrifs to remove more money from their customers 3 believe that they will be able to increase their customer base thanks to their involvement with the Terminate The Rate initiative.

3 will start to aggressively grow its customer base after termination rates were slashed last week, its CEO Kevin Russell has pledged. Russell said the changes outlined by Ofcom, which will see the rates cut to 0.5p over the next five years, meant he could focus on the mobile operator’s market share.
The existing charges have impacted on 3, which is still to report a profit since its launch in 2003, because it has a small customer base. With a base of just over 5 million, 3 pays out more in charges to rivals than it receives for connecting calls to its network. However, the reduction in termination rates will allow 3 to make more from voice calls and aggressively target new customers with competitive rates

HP Slate will be upon us soon

The year of the tablet continues. HP are pushing out their snazzy gizmo with an ad campaign that points out a few features Apple could have put in their iPad but didn’t. The only thing that is missing is a kid at the end with his thumb on his nose, wiggling his fingers and blowing raspberries. Like the iPhone I doubt these will make a huge dent in Apple’s sales but at least there will be a device somewhere along the lines that ticks all the boxes be it from Archos, Dell, HP etc.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 unboxing video

X10-_Front2 Well I finally got my hands on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 last week. This is a handset that I’d waited a long time to review as it’s one we’ve known about for months but for some reason the actual release seems to keep being pushed back. However, I understand that the X10 will go on sale any day now and is already available on O2 and the white version will be an Orange exclusive.

The X10 is a large Android powered device and with a 4″ capacitive touchscreen it is of a similar overall size to the Toshiba TG01 or the HTC HD2 although just a little smaller. I believe that it’s currently the largest-screened Android phone available at the moment.

Having had the handset for a few days now there are some things that really impress me about it. First of all the 4″ screen is really good. At 480×854 pixels it’s of a high enough resolution and of a large enough physical size to make watching videos and using the web browser a pleasurable mobile experience.

The camera too is great. Sony Ericsson are known for having good quality camera-phones and the 8.1 megapixel shooter in the X10 is no exception. I think this too is that highest resolution camera in an Android handset at the moment.

So it’s unboxing video time and below I have a slightly lengthy one for you. As the Desire videos I recorded last week seem to have been popular with a combination of unboxing and brief demo I thought I would stick to that format with the X10. Check it out after the jump:

iPhone OS 4.0 to be shown off on Thursday

iPhone 4.0 EventApple will be holding their iPhone 4.0 event, “Get a sneak peak into the future of iPhone OS” on Thursday, April 8th, yes that is this week, not much notice for all the tech journalists out there.

This is expected to be nothing more than a look at what Apple have in store for the next update to the software that runs the iPhone, like they do every year and no new hardware will be announced, the question is what have Apple been working on, will we eventually see some Multi-Tasking, home screen customisations, they have to deliver something fresh this year as I am seeing a lot of tweets from die hard iPhone users about switching to Android devices, Apple over to you to wow us all over again.

Microsoft set to announce Project Pink on the 12th of April

The great mystery that is known as Project Pink will be eventually revealed at a press event on the 12th April in San Francisco according to Cnet.

A source confirmed to them that the event will herald the introduction of Microsoft’s long-awaited new phones for the always-connected crowd. The devices, code-named Pure and Turtle, are both slider phones, each with a touch screen and keyboard, the devices will run on Verizon Wireless’ network and go on sale within the month following the event.

The Pure and Turtle phones, which are part of Microsoft’s long-running "Pink" project, also have Windows CE at their core as well, but aren’t likely to run programs written for either current crop of Windows Phones or those written for Windows Phone 7.

Sony NWZ-A845 Walkman unboxing video

nwz_a845 We’ve reviewed a few of the media player products from the Sony Walkman range in the past so were pleased when Sony offered to send us the newest NWZ-A845 which went on sale at the beginning of March this year.

There were a few things that made the NWZ-A845 stand out. Firs of all it has a fairly large OLED display at 240×400 pixels, good for video playback, secondly it’s only 7mm thick! Impressive when you consider what Sony have packed in to that small space, including a battery that claims to give 29 hours of MP3 playback.

Another cool feature of the NWZ-A845 is that it comes with special noise cancelling headphones. The headphones have a built in microphone to pick up the ambient noise which the Walkman then processes to produce anti-noise. They work really rather well!

As always we’ll have a full written review for you soon but for the time being you can enjoy the unboxing video below.

Mitsubishi XD600U DLP Projector Unboxing Video

XD600U It’s been a while since we reviewed a projector here at tracyandmatt and this week we’ve ended up with two to look at. The first of which is the Mitsubishi XD600U DLP projector.

On paper the XD600U sounds pretty impressive with its 4500 ANSI Lumens brightness, probably one of the brightest projectors that you can buy at the moment. This means that you can use the projector in a room without having to close all of the blinds/curtains and turning off all the lights, particularly useful if you are using the projector for business applications.

The other thing about the XD600U is that it’s 3D ready. You will need some additional kit in order experience 3D with this projector, including a set of 3D shutter glasses but I believe this is one of the few projectors to offer the capability so far.

So to test this projector out of got myself a large projector screen and hooked up to my PS3. Take a look at the video below to see the unboxing and a look at the connectors and controls. Later on in the video you can also see a bit of a demo of the XD600U in use.
