Sony Ericsson Vivaz review

Vivaz_Front2The Sony Ericsson Vivaz is the first of five new Sony Ericsson devices that will be available here in the UK over the coming month or so. To follow we have the Vivaz Pro, X10, X10 Mini and X10 Pro.

Not being a huge fan of the Symbian OS, the Vivaz brings a new lease of life to it as Sony Ericsson have created there own overlay to sit on top of the traditional one. This was one of the reasons I chose to review the device. Although I’m not a massive follower of Symbian we at tracyandmatt believe in giving all handsets a fair and unbiased review and that’s what the Vivaz will get. The other reason I wanted to get my hands on it was the fact that it records video in HD as well as having a 8.1mp camera.

Will the camera be as good as I think it will and has the new overlay disguised the OS enough? Only one way to find out and that’s to read on.

Window Mobile and Symbian YouTube app

YT A YouTube application is pre-loaded onto most Smartphones these days. We recently posted the details of a new YouTube client for Windows Mobile and Symbian devices which replaces the pre-installed app.

This new version brings with it some nice new features to make the mobile version of YouTube more like the desktop one. Personally I would say a vast improvement over the standard Windows Mobile offering.

Below is a short video showing you these new features and a general overview of the application.

Samsung Galaxy Portal unboxing video

portal When the Samsung Galaxy came out in August of last year I think it was the first Android powered handset that I really wanted to own. While I liked the Android OS, prior to the Galaxy I felt that other Android handsets were not particularly attractive or interesting but the Galaxy came along with its neat, think styling and OLED display, it was pretty cool!

So Samsung have launched a follow up to the Galaxy called the Galaxy Portal. Pretty similar styling to the original Galaxy, still thin and pretty stylish looking but the buttons below the display have been changed and there’s now a few more alongside them.

One thing that already bugs me about the Portal (and a few other handsets coming out at the moment) is that it still have Android 1.5 (cupcake) which feels rather dated now. Having come from the 2.1 powered HTC Legend and Nexus One those 1.5 handsets don’t have such a nice feel to them. Will the average customer care about that? Perhaps not but I suspect that it might be a little off putting for the higher-end user.

To find out what else may have changed since the original Samsung Galaxy you’ll have to wait for out full review but for now you can have a look at the unboxing video below where I’ll take you on a tour of the hardware and give you a little look around the OS too.

Zune HD demo video

zune hd platinum All eyes have been on Windows Phone 7 Series recently and it’s looking to be a decent OS, although, if recent rumours are to be believed,  it does have some flaws.

One of the interesting new features on WP7S will be the integration of Zune services.

Here in the UK we are not that familiar with Zune as the units were only sold in the USA and even if you brought one back to the UK, you couldn’t gain access to Zune services. But that is soon to change!

I’m lucky enough to own a Zune HD and as you will see in this short video the Zune experience is a pretty nice one. I thought I would record a very quick video of the user interface on my Zune HD to give you a taster as the Zune software in the new WP7S devices will probably be much the same as you see in the video.

ViewSonic PCmini VOT120 unboxing video

viewsonic Small form factor, low-power computers seem to be coming ever more popular with several of the big name brands releasing their own small-box style units that can fix to the back of your monitor.

ViewSonic are perhaps better known for display products but they have also recently introduced a few laptop/netbook products and now this the ViewSonic PCmini VOT120 is their first small form PC.

When I say small, I really do mean small. As you’ll see in the video below this thing is tiny, will fit on the back of or behind even the smallest of monitors to provide a neat small footprint desktop setup perhaps ideal for locations where space is at a premium or where you might not typically place a larger PC.

We’ll have our review of this little PC online for you soon but for now you can have a look at the quick video below to get an idea of its size and what come included.

Demo of the new HTC Touch Pro2 ROM

htc-touch-pro2 Hopefully you saw our post last night informing you of new ROMs for the HTC Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2. If not you can download each of the new HTC ROMs from HERE.

I have the HTC Touch Pro2 which I use as one of my everyday phones and as there are some rather nice changes in the latest ROM build I thought I would give you a quick video demo.

It would have been nice to get version 6.5.3 but unfortunately that’s not to be (yet anyway). However, what we do get is Sense UI like on the HTC HD2 and it’s a massive improvement.

Check out the video after the jump.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz demo video

vivaz1 Since I was over at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month the Sony Ericsson hype died down a little bit but now it’s back! The Vivaz is the first of the five new devices that I saw previewed in Barcelona to actually be released.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz is a Symbian S60 powered device but Sony Ericsson have all but hidden the fact by adding their own custom user interface which completely overlays the OS.

Check out the video below where I give a brief tour of the device and some of its main features.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz free on Vodafone

Vivaz_Front There is a new wave of Sony Ericsson handsets coming over the next month or two and the first one, the Vivaz is now available on Vodafone.

The device is free on contracts starting at £30 per month and I think this device will appeal to not only Symbian users, but everyone. Sony Ericsson have put a nice overlay on top of the traditional Symbian one so its almost like not using a Symbian handset.

Sporting HD video recording and a 8.1 MP camera the Vivaz is certain to get a decent number of sales. Lets just hope Sony Ericsson have less issues with this device than they had with the last one, the Satio.

Matt unboxed the Vivaz last week and I now have the device so keep you eyes peeled this week for the full review.
