HTC Wildfire preview video

HTC Wildfire_Brown_Front_per_gallery20100507 Earlier today we broke the news that the HTC Wildfire has been announced. Last week I had a decent hands on with the device and what I can tell you is it is real sweet. It’s no contender for the Legend, Desire or Nexus One but it is not meant to be. The HTC Wildfires target market will be young adults who may currently be using a feature phone. The Wildfire will be a budget Android device, a nice stepping stone to a smartphone.

Sporting HTCs Sense UI, the Wildfire is as user friendly as we have come to expect from HTC. Hardware wise we have some decent specs on this cost effective new device.  I say cost effective as that’s what I have been told by HTC. We will have to wait and see what prices the networks charge but if I was a gambling man I would bet the HTC Wildfire to be £15-£20 per month on a contract. We will have to wait and see.

Below is a quick video I shot of the HTC Wildfire just to give you a brief insight. We will let you know as soon as we get our hands on a review device. I don’t think it will be long!

HTC Smart unboxing and demo video

Smart-main Back in February of this year HTC announced 4 new handsets at MWC in Barcelona, we’ve already seen and reviewed the first three of those handsets, the HTC Desire, HTC Legend and HTC HD mini. This is the new HTC Smart, the fourth of those handsets to be announced.

The HTC Smart is, I believe, the first HTC handset not to feature either Windows Mobile or Android and instead runs on the Brew Mobile Platform. The Smart, like all the other HTC devices at the moment, still comes with the Sense UI and upon initial inspection you would perhaps find it hard to determine that it wasn’t running one of the more mainstream operating systems.

The HTC Smart is perhaps then a more entry-level handset and I suspect that will be reflected in the eventual sale price. It does however, seem to bring a number of Smartphone features to a more ‘feature phone’ handset. At the moment it looks like the Smart will be exclusive to O2 here in the UK and it doesn’t even look like we’ll see a SIM-free version.

As always, we’ll be writing up our full review of the HTC Smart which will be here for you, all being well, early next week. For now you can have a look at my unboxing and brief demo video below. I’ll also have more video for you soon.

Vodafone UK Unveils Trio of New Smartphones

Galaxy S

Once again Vodafone have announced a fine selection of new devices coming to the network soon.

Top if my list of ones I want to play with is the Samsung Galaxy S.

The Samsung Galaxy S 16GB http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/samsung-galaxy-s will be available exclusively to Vodafone UK customers. The stunning, ultra responsive touchscreen device is the latest generation of Android smartphones built by Samsung.
With the Samsung Galaxy S, not only will you be able to access thousands of apps through the Android Marketplace, you can make the most of the device’s social networking features, by staying connected with all your friends through Facebook, Twitter and MSN.
The Samsung Galaxy S 16GB sports a great 5 megapixel camera, capable of shooting videos in HD quality, allowing you to capture crystal clear moments and enjoy them on the huge 4″ Super AMOLED touch screen display.
Powered by a superfast 1GHz processor and teamed with an integrated Google Chrome browser, the handset allows for a smooth and seamless experience, which never slows down when you’re surfing the web through multiple browser windows.

Bing for Windows Mobile updated to support turn-by-turn navigation

bing

Over in the USA the Bing app has had a rather impressive update – voice guided navigation.

While it is not available here in the UK I have asked Microsoft if it is expected, so when I have a response I will let you know.

Stateside we have already seen Google offer a similar app last year which launched on the Motorola Droid but I am wondering if we will also see this new navigation app pre installed on Windows Phone 7. It would certainly make sense and be a huge selling feature.

Adam from pocketnow.com has put the app to the test on video. Check it out after the break.

BlackBerry 9670 caught on video running OS 6

BB 9670 Flip

Thecellularguru has once again posted a video of the BlackBerry 9670 but this time it is over seven minutes long!

We brought you some footage of this unofficial BlackBerry last week and I said that the design had really grown on me. After watching this new video it has grown even more. Just as interesting is that the majority of the below video is demonstrating the forthcoming BlackBerry 6 OS.

As you will see the new OS is very much BlackBerry but with some nice refinements and tweaks. It is certainly more colourful and in typical BlackBerry fashion it is simple to navigate.

I am sure that by the time both the phone and the OS are officially announced and released by RIM we will see even more refinements but in the meantime I am more than happy with what I have seen so far.

Now I just got to get my hands of once of these flippy phones!

Enjoy the video after the break..

iPhone HD (4G)in pieces

Shown here in this brief video are the different parts making up the housing of the upcoming iPhone which is expected to be announced early next month at WWDC 2010. The guy then proceeds to piece together the 4G iPhone’s digitizer LCD and its middle metal plate. For those doubting its make, if you listen closely to the video, you can actually hear that it’s really metal and not just some cheap plastic made to look like it. Missing here, however, is the backplate to complete the case iPhone 4G (HD), but we’re not exactly that disappointed given that we’ve seen it as a whole already thanks to Gizmodo’s controversial posting and video of the leaked iPhone 4G.

Apart from its redesigned aesthetics, the iPhone 4G (HD) is expected to come equipped with a front-facing camera, flash for the rear camera, support for 720p video recording, high-resolution display, and will ship with iPhone OS 4.0 on-board.

BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider caught on video

BB Logo

boygeniusreport have once again got some exclusive news on the BlackBerry Slider that we have mentioned once or twice over the past weeks. This time on video!

Although the video is only 13 seconds long it’s a true indication that the BlackBerry Slider is in fact real. After seeing the initial leaked photos I quite liked the look of the slider and now on video it looks even better.

Check out the video after the break.

The Microsoft Kins get reviewed

kinonetwo-new

Phonearena has put together a nice review and comparison of the Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two. The honest seem to be quite tight devices with a pleasant user interface. Whilst they do seem to be somewhat unremarkable the Windows Phone operating system gives us a nice insight into the working of this cut down version of what to expect later this year. After watching the video I’m a lot more excited about these devices and will look forward to having a play with this at some point in the future. Check out the video after the break:

Updated: Vodafone are about to rip you off.

vodafone-logo1

Some interesting news which was just found tonight and is sending shockwaves through gadget fans in the UK is that from 1st June 2010, Vodafone will change the conditions on charging for data use on mobile phones.

At present all phones with exception to the iPhone and Nexus One can have a data package of 500MB Fair Use added for £5 a month but until now you could go over that mark without fear of running up a bill.  This will change from June with Vodafone charging another £5 for 500MB of internet use which has had people on Moneysaving Expert & Vodafone eForum fuming.

To compare, T-Mobile offer 3GB data with ALL Android phones as a free part of your package, the same 3GB on Vodafone will now cost you £30!

Update:

Our roving report Chris hassled Vodafone and they confirmed it all:
