Review Optoma Pico Pocket Projector

image Having reviewed lots of mobile phones last year it is nice to start this year with a review of an accessory that has left me speechless, well nearly anyway. When I was offered the chance to review this pocket sized projector it really interested me as I had heard so much about it and couldn’t wait to receive it and now after a few weeks use its time to share my thoughts on this amazing piece of tech.

David Pogue discusses the potential of mobile devices

image In America there are 3 or 4 really influential tech journalists whose opinions really matter in mainstream newspapers. People like Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher of The Wall Street Journal, Ed Baig of USA Today, and my personal favorite David Pogue of The New York Times. Pogue’s short videos which air on CNBC are also available as a podcast and are something I look forward to every week. Pogue gave a speech recently where he discusses the mobile trends he expects to see develop in 2009. It is a really entertaining and informative discussion (including a couple of funny songs). The main thrust of his talk centers on how mobile services will become more and more important in the coming year. More after the break, including the video.

The Samsung SGH-i200

So the i200 is a fairly basic handset but don’t be fooled, there are some features in the spec that you may expect to find in higher-end devices. For starters you get HSDPA and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, in fact about the only thing missing from the i200 is WiFi support!

Our reviewer Steve was so impressed with the Windows Mobile Standard platform in the HTC S740 that he thought it would be great to see what a device without QWERTY could offer. Steve will be reviewing the i200 over the next few weeks so here we have the unboxing video to give you a taster of what the i200 is all about.

LG Renoir unboxed

It’s been about 3 months since we first saw the LG KC910 Renoir at its launch event and since then we have been waiting to get our hands on a review unit. Finally got one just before Christmas so have been putting it too the test over the festive period.

renoir_main

The LG Renoir (KC910)

The KC910 Renoir is one of about 4 or 5 handsets available at the moment with an 8 megapixel camera built in. We’ve already looked at many of the others and you can find their reviews here on site too. The Renoir is quite similar to the Samsung Pixon in form and appearance, and both have the 8mp camera. One of the cool things about the Renoir is that it has a proper Xenon flash as well as Dolby Audio and Divx support. Take a look at the specification below and see what you get in a package that weighs just 114 grams – impressive!

So while we finish writing up the review, here’s the unboxing video to give you a taster of what the Renoir has to offer:

Zephyr from the makers of Ocarina

image From the makers of Ocarina, the iPhone’s first wind instrument comes Zephyr, an app that IS the wind. Like the best-selling Ocarina, Zephyr is a tool for unlimited self-expression.  With this app, users can express thoughts by writing or drawing on a snow covered screen.  Zephyr senses every touch and tilt to supplement each message with a unique wind sound, creating a unique visual and audio story. Gently composed writing might be accompanied by the sound of a lightly blowing breeze.  Quickly drawn designs might generate the sound of blustery winds. More details after the break with  video demo.

HTC Touch Viva review and video

image We haven’t heard much about this one since it was announced alongside the HTC Touch HD and HTC Touch 3G and put mostly in the shadows but the guys over a pda.pl have managed to get hold of one for review. It is in Polish but there is a google translation which is pretty bad but also three videos which we have after the break. It seems that this device is definitely in the budget range as it doesn’t even come with a headset and has TouchFlo 2D as it has no 3D graphics acceleration. Videos after the break.

Pointui Home 2 preview video

image We are all in favour of software for Windows Mobile that improves the touch experience and keeps the stylus tucked away, well Pointui have just released a preview video of their soon to be available software that does just that. Also in the latest version there are applets and many other new features, we have the video after the break.
