Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte unboxing

The Nokia 8800 sits pretty much at the top end of the Nokia handset range. This titanium and carbon fibre version comes in at just under £1000 which is stunningly expensive for a ‘standard’ mobile phone when you consider that you could buy a decent laptop for less than that.

8800_front_docked

The Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte

So why so expensive? Well the 8800 handsets are incredibly well made constructed from quality materials including carbon fibre, titanium, stainless steel and polished glass. Despite being constructed from these high-tech materials the 8800 weighs in at over 150 grams so it’s no lightweight. That said, the construction is so solid that the weight is actually reassuring.

You’ll also find a matching docking/charging station and a bluetooth headset included in the box. It’s a shame that Nokia didn’t think to incorporate the headset charger in to the dock though.

I don’t want to spoil Nick’s review which we’ll have for you within the next few weeks so I’ll leave you with the unboxing video so you can see what else is included.

New Nokia N97 promotional video looks awesome, laden with marketing jargon

image Nokia has made a new marketing video for its upcoming super phone the N97. The first half doesn’t even show the phone, it just has a bunch of international looking people spouting generic web 2.0 platitudes, but the second half is where the real action is. The video features lots of nice shots of the phones UI, including some new transitions, and it hints at some possible content partners for this media focused device. As an American I was particularly interested to see the “Live TV” tab featuring NBC, CBS, and ABC, meaning that Nokia may be planning a big marketing push in the US later this summer. Video after the break.

Well Brandon over at Pocketnow has flashed up his HTC Touch HD with a new build from xda-developers and sure enough the honeycomb has gone. Also worth mentioning is that the UI is starting to look a little more polished. Take a look for yourself after the break.

Telefónica and Vodafone announce milestone pan European collaboration

image Telefónica and Vodafone, two of the world’s largest telecommunications operators, today announce a wide-ranging strategic programme to share mobile network assets across selected European operations.

As part of the collaboration, Telefónica and Vodafone are actively exploring opportunities to cooperate in related areas such as the provision of transmission services.

Telefónica and Vodafone will use the agreements to aid the roll out of their respective networks, enhancing service quality for customers in the longer term. The agreements will also reduce the environmental impact of both companies’ roll out activities, due to the consolidation of existing sites and joint build of new sites.

Windows Mobile 6.5 on a Treo 750

032109165632 Just spotted this story over at wmexperts and as this device was and still is for that matter my favourite Windows Mobile device it is worth sharing. The video is not the best quality and for some reason it is filmed with the phone on its side so its quite hard to watch. There is also a thread over at xda you can follow too, but you can see it for yourself after the break.

Sanyo Xacti HD2000 unboxing video

If you are a regular reader you’ll know that we’ve looked at several video cameras in Sanyo’s Xacti range and most recently we reviewed the Xacti HD1010. I have to say that I really like the Xacti cameras, they are really well specified, are small, light and easy to use. Most importantly the quality of the recorded video is really good. I’ve been using the HD1000 to record unboxing videos for about 6 months and really like it. It’s convenient to be able to take the SD card from the camera and pop it in a card reader to copy the video to the PC for editing.

HD2000_angled_left

The Sanyo Xacti HD2000

Despite have the same external look the new Xacti HD2000 has a number of improvements over the HD1000 and HD1010. First of all the optical zoom has been up rated from 10x to 16x (it remains 10x for stills) the CMOS sensor is now 8.1 megapixels which allows you to take 8 megapixel stills without interpolation. Face chaser has been updated and can now track and focus on 12 faces in a shot.

Perhaps the most important change, though, is that full HD 1080p recording has been upped to 60 frames per second from 30 fps. It’s pretty unusual to have 60fps on a consumer grade camcorder and even more unusual on a camera this small. If you want to shoot Full HD at 60FPS though make sure you’ve got a high capacity SDHC card and make sure it’s a good quality fast one as that’s a lot of data to be recording!

As with the HD1010 I’ll be spending some time with the HD2000 and will be using it for some of our unboxing videos. I’ll also record some other sample footage to share with you.

I’ll leave you with the HD2000 unboxing video below. As you can see, you get quite a lot in the box!
