Hopefully many of you already tune in to our weekly podcast and may have heard Gareth mention that the Mobile Tech Addicts podcast has been nominated in the “Best use of social media by broadcast media” section of the Northern Ireland Social Media Awards.
We are up against some very stiff competition from the big local media however! UTV, CoolFM, City Beat and Talkback are some of the most popular local broadcasters in NI so the fact that we are alongside them is pretty cool.
So to those of you that tune in and enjoy our podcast (and even if you don’t) I’d like to ask you to please consider voting for us. You can find us under category 6 and all you have to do to place your vote is go to the Northern Ireland Social Media Awards voting site, put in an email address and tick the box next to our name. Simples!
Thanks so much to those of you that already voted and to those of you about to do so. We’ll let you know how we get on! 🙂

We first saw the Nokia E7 late last year but if the rumours are to be believed there have been ongoing issues with manufacturing which has led to a number of delays. However, the E7 has now been made available for pre-order from a number of retailers with stock expected next week.
I’ve been able to get my hands on a pre-release model to look at and you’ll see me have a quick play with the E7 in the video below.
Overview of Nokia E7
The Nokia E7 is an elegant Smartphone which incorporates and an innovative design. It is constructed from anodised aluminium for a stunning finish. With benefits including both a tilting full QWERTY keyboard and a high resolution 4″ AMOLED touch screen, the Nokia E7 is ideal for mobile media and communication.
High Definition (HD) video and photos can be captured with the integrated 8 megapixel camera which features a dual LED flash. This and other media can be viewed in full 720p resolution on the Nokia E7 with ability to connect to your HD TV, using the HDMI connection. Dolby Digital Plus and surround sound are available when connecting to your home theatre equipment when using the HDMI connection.
The Nokia E7 is supplied with Ovi maps which come with free lifetime GPS navigation and voice guidance for convenience.
The HTC Incredible S was the first release of many devices that HTC announced at Mobile World Congress in February. The name ‘Incredible’ is not a new one for HTC as they have had the Incredible on the Verizon network in the USA for some time. So now us folks in Europe get an Incredible but as a newer generation we get an ‘S’ which must have taken HTC a long time to come up with that name!
With a 4 inch capacitive screen the Incredible S sits nicely in the middle between the Desire S with it’s 3.7 inch screen and the Desire HD and Sensation with their massive 4.3 inch screens.
With so many Android devices to choose from is the Incredible S a worthy purchase? Let’s find out.
Something a little light hearted for you. I just stumbled on a great little video on YouTube which contains two of my favorite things, BlackBerry and The Foo Fighters. It looks like RIM have been doing a bit of sponsorship with the FF’s which if you ask me makes one cool combination.
Need I say more. See the video below.
The leaks just keep on coming for the next batch of BlackBerry Smartphones we can expect to see hopefully this summer. This new collection of leaks comes once again from N4BB and we have promo videos for both the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the BlackBerry Touch 9860.
With BlackBerry World just around the corner in early May it is looking more and more likely that these two new devices along with the Torch 2 will be announced.
I’m pretty excited about all three. If the rumored specs are correct it looks like RIM are catching up with the rest of the industry and using 1.2 GHz processors. That will make one nippy BlackBerry.
You can see both the video promos below.
Acer is not a company that many would expect to be making phones but they have and their latest incarnation is the subject of this review. The Liquid Metal is a mid-range device that has been created to conquer the demographic who doesn?t want a flip phone but cannot afford a full fledged smartphone. With competition like the HTC Wildfire S and the Galaxy Ace, can Acer with the Liquid Metal take on the competition or will it be defeated?

If you fancy having a look at the highlights from yesterdays HTC press conference where they announced the HTC Sensation you can do so here. HTC have released the video on their YouTube channel.
After playing with the new device last night I can say that it is a real beauty. The new features with HTC Sense are fantastic and the Sensation is sure to be a big hit and a worthy flagship device for HTC.

If you are a BlackBerry user and like to use Twitter, you may want to check out Twitter for BlackBerry if you have not done so before as it now has some rather cool new features.
First up, and in my opinion most important, is the introduction of push mentions and messages. There is nothing more frustrating than waiting for a Twitter app to refresh, so now as soon as someone mentions you the message will be pushed to your BlackBerry. I have been using this feature for some time as a beta zone member and if you use Twitter a lot once you have ‘push’ you can never go back. Try it. It rocks!
Tweet location is another new feature. Once set up within the options of the app you will notice a compass logo sitting next to the camera icon. Here you can choose to add your location to tweets. Viewing someone else’s location – if they have enabled this feature – is really easy too! All you need to do is select the location icon that appears in the bottom right corner of their tweet and a map view will open, allowing you to see where they were when they submitted that Tweet.
The next time you Retweet something, it will appear in your Home timeline as ‘Retweeted by You’, to quickly alert you that your Retweet was sent successfully.
