Samsung Galaxy Player to be shown at CES

galaxy-player-1

Samsung have made MP3 players for years but at long last it looks like they may well have an alternative to the Apple iPod Touch. The Galaxy Player is believed to be unveiled at CES in the States next week and looking at its specs it would appear to be a beast!

The 9.9mm thick Galaxy Player (YP-GB1) runs on Android 2.2 Froyo OS and features a 1GHz CPU, 4-inch Super Clear LCD screen supporting up to WVGA resolution (800×480), T-DMB, SoundAlive audio enhancing technology, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.2MP rear camera with front facing camera for video calling, GPS, HD video playback, microSD card slot, Android Market and Samsung Apps access and a 1200mAh removable battery.

Sounds a bit of alright, but I wonder how much it will cost. I think I had better start saving.

Skype to offer video calling on iPhone, iPod and iPad

skype News just in regarding the new version of Skype that is rumoured to be announced at CES on the 6th January. News via QuickPWN.

Unfortunately for Skype, someone ruined part of their announcements by finding a webpage on Skype which details some products that will get video calling. If you went to this link earlier (now down) you would of seen the following:

To make video calls with your contacts, you will need an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3rd generation iPod touch, 4th generation iPod touch or an iPad. Your contacts will only be able to see you if your device has a camera. Make sure your device is running iOS 4.0 or above and that you are using Skype for iPhone 3.0 or above.

The contacts you are calling must be using one of the following Skype clients:

  • Skype for Windows version 4.2 and above
  • Skype for Mac OS X version 2.8 and above
  • Skype for iPhone 3.0 and above

I’m looking forward to checking this out on the new year!

Angry Birds for iOS gets an update – 15 new levels

angrybirdsupdate-266x400

Angry Birds for iOS has received an update in the last few days bringing not only 15 new levels but also a few new features. A new golden egg is now available but more interesting is the ‘Mighty Eagle’. If you cant complete the level you can summon the Mighty Eagle to help. The downside here is that it will cost you 59 pence. I wasn’t very impressed with that but if you are desperate to kill those pigs it may solve your dilemma.

Check your updates do download these new additions.

LG Optimus 2X gets a January launch

LG-Optimus-2X1

LG’s beast of a phone, the Optimus 2X (also known as the LG Star) apparently will arrive in Europe in January 2011. For those unfamiliar with the phone, it will be the first Nvidia Tegra 2 equipped smartphone to go on sale here in the UK. That means of course that it will be the first dual-core smartphone. Another quirky detail are the Morricone composed ringtones preloaded onto the phone. Running an LG-overlayed Android 2.2, it is equipped with a 4 inch WVGA display, 8GB of storage, an 8MP camera with full 1080p video recording, and a 1.3MP front facing camera. LG have stated that 2.3 Gingerbread will come soon in an OTA update, but other important details like RAM have not been released though estimates of around 512MB will probably turn out true. This spec monster of a phone will be powered by a 1500mAh battery so it will be interesting to see how long it lasts with both Android and those top end specs.

See after the break for the PR mentioning it’s trip over to Europe.

The newest version includes a new PDF displaying engine, offering a much smoother experience when zooming/panning a file, plus AirPrint support for wireless printing. GoodReader now also offers more features for annotating files, including:

· Adjustable line thickness and opacity for drawings

· Redo button in freehand drawing mode

· Freehand drawing tool now allows users to zoom and pan a page with two fingers, useful for long handwritten notes that do not fit on one screen

· Freehand drawing tool now works much faster on pages containing a large number of annotations

Head on over to the App Store from your iPhone and check it out.

google-nexus-s_thumb All those people who wanted to get their hands on Gingerbread and the Nexus S will have to wait another couple of days as the Carphone Warehouse has pushed back the release date of the latest Google handset to December 22nd. Vodafones HTC Wildfire Gets Froyo

htc-wildfire3vsformatbrown20100512Rejoice Vodafone Wildfire users, you are getting some Froyo goodness this morning! The update brings support for USB tethering, possibility of installing applications to SD card (if supported by the application), native support for Activesync Exchange (email, contacts and calendar sync) and security policies, an enhanced Camera application, enhanced Bluetooth support, speed and stability improvements, multiple keyboard languages and WiFi Hotspot tethering. However, the update does not bring live wallpapers or Flash support in the browser because of “Hardware Limitations.” Vodafone’s words, not mine.

It’s not Gingerbread but still a good update for all Wildfire owners on the Vodafone network and if you are go press those update buttons!

Chat for Facebook Pro – BlackBerry Application

Screen shot 2010-12-19 at 19.55.26

Chat for Facebook Pro is a new BlackBerry app that has recently appeared in BlackBerry App World. Like the title suggests the app will allow you to use Facebook chat from your BlackBerry. This app is not the first to so this as many of the integrated instant messaging apps such as Trillian, Nimbuzz and IM+ offer the same, but where this one is quite nice is that the interface is very much like Facebook and at 79 pence it wont break the bank meaning you can always be in touch with your Facebook friends while out and about.

See some screen shots after the break:
