Apple confirm iPad 2 UK pricing

overview_gyro_20110302 We knew that the iPad 2 would go on sale on Friday 25th March here in the UK and the time that you can go buy in-store (if you want to queue) is set to be 5pm. No word yet on pre-order or reserve for in-store collection though but I’d say given that we’re now so close to launch day it’s pretty unlikely.

Firm UK pricing has also been announced today and you can see the matrix below (note prices inclusive of VAT).

Archos high end devices to be announced in June

archos-logo-09An old favourite for many when it comes to personal media players is the name Archos. Whilst the more recent tablet offerings have had mixed reviews it looks like their efforts in the last year have paid off and they have posted a rather tidy profit from the latest generation. With profits of around up from 13.5% to 23.3% it looks like they are doing something right.

What’s next for the little French company? Well, Global domination it seems. Their legacy is primarily high quality audio/video experiences and in the last few years this has changed to cater for cost effective Android tablet experiences. So why not combine them and come up with high quality Android Tablets?

If done right, the following will just be amazing:

BlackBerry Protect release for all European, Middle Eastern, and African users

blackberry_protect

BlackBerry Protect v1.0 has launched in App World Test Center today (Saturday, March 19th) for all European, Middle Eastern, and African users.  Users in these regions can now download and install the released version of the BlackBerry Protect 1.0 client at http://www.blackberry.com/protect or via App World.

I have been using BlackBerry Protect for quite some time now as a beta tester and in my opinion it is the most vital application you can have on your device.

As well as backing up all your contacts and calendars to the cloud BlackBerry Protect will allow you to find your BlackBerry if it is lost or stolen.

If you have a BlackBerry you have to download Project. Do it. Do it now.

Sarah Harding shows her dark side for HTC Incredible S

article-1362785-0D74F396000005DC-385_634x430 Despite always being the blonde bombshell of the group, it seem that Sarah Harding is using her newly darkened locks to attract some serious advertising revenue.

Despite only been raven-hared for two weeks, the Girls Aloud singer is fully embracing her darker side in a vampy new photo-shoot for HTC.

The all-black outfit and vampish make-up in a new ad campaign for the latest HTC Incredible S makes Miss Harding look every inch the smouldering brunette.

The 29-year-old looked slinky in black leather trousers and a pair of killer heels as she posed with the new matte-black HTC Incredible S mobile phone.

Graham Stapleton, Chief Commercial Officer for Best Buy Europe, said: ‘We are very excited to be working with Sarah and HTC to launch this great phone. The Incredible S is the latest in a series of cutting-edge mobiles from HTC and with its perfect combination of high-end style and advanced features is yet another example of why HTC is leading the way in pioneering technology.”

Harding posed for the shoot just two weeks after she debuted her new hair colour at London Fashion Week, where she attended the Vivienne Westwood show with super stylish band-mate Nicola Roberts.

Harding’s new look is said to be inspired by Natalie Portman’s Oscar-winning film Black Swan, which she has previously claimed to be obsessed with.

The HTC Incredible S smart phone has received the usual praise, commonly heaped on HTC, for its innovative appearance and features. The Incredible S has a large, 4-inch touch-screen and a ridged back that sets it apart visually from the similarly rectangular competition.

The innovative contoured, matte-black case gives the handset an attractive, industrial appearance.

At 4-inches, the phones screen is the same size as the popular Samsung Galaxy S, and sits between the HTC Desire HD and the new HTC Desire S handsets. In big screen sizes HTC now have something for everyone.

Facebook 2.0 for BlackBerry

facebook-2-5

RIM yesterday released Facebook 2.0 via the BlackBerry Beta Zone and we have some nice new stuff which I am rather pleased about.

You can now check to see which of your Facebook friends are online and start a Chat conversation from within the Facebook application or within the unified mailbox on your BlackBerry smartphone.

On Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones, as long as your status is set to online, you still receive notifications even if you are not using the Facebook app.

Their tablet will be available through T-Mobile USA and run on their “4G” network. The LG Girl got some hands-on time with it, and shot a little promo type video. It gives us a little insight on what the G-Slate is all about. We still don’t have a firm release date or price point for the device.

Asus to shake up the netbook game

slidertransformerlead-550x248

A new rumour has surfaced from DigiTimes reporting ASUS is looking to evolve their netbook game in 2011 with either Chrome OS or – our precious – Android. It’ll be on the affordable side with pricing expected to sit anywhere between £150 and £200. They’re claiming it’ll be a 10 or 11 inch netbook.

ASUS has already shown their Android-based netbook card – they debuted tablet/netbook hybrids at CES this year called the Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider (both pictured above). This would be a more traditional netbook, though, which makes things a bit interesting.

As far as processor technology goes, it’s believed that Intel’s established Atom series will be powering things under the hood, though which chipset exactly wasn’t said. While Chrome OS may be a better fit for a traditional netbook experience, Android has quickly become an easily-marketable household name and – to be quite honest – it can do a lot more than Chrome OS can in its current state. We’ll be keeping an eye out for further announcements from ASUS.
