Today Access, the company that purchased PalmSource, officially unveiled its Linux based successor to the Garnet OS (formerly known as Palm OS). The Access Linux Platform 3.0, as it is known, supports not only native Linux applications, but also legacy Garnet OS applications as well as Java apps. ALP 3.0, as it is known, is also fully compliant with the LiMo Foundation’s specifications for mobile Linux. Screen shots after the break.
Looks like Orange will be joining O2 and Vodafone in releasing the Xperia this month apparently. Tracy and Matt are reporting images of the Touch HD on the Orange website under the coming soon section with the LG Renoir hogging the limelight. Click the break and see the pic. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. After looking at the photo to the right however, I think a picture may be worth a lot more! If you hadn’t heard, HTC are about to release the Touch HD which has a huge 3.8? WVGA 800 x 480 touch screen, 5mp camera, 3.5 Audio Jack, and all of the other standard HTC Goodness we have come to love. But one thing was missing, the slide out keyboard!
Just had a tip off that the stories floating around today that The HTC Touch HD will be exclusive to Orange in the UK are wide of the mark. Our tipster who claims to have it on good authority (From HTC), tells us that the device will be released on Orange in the second half of November and end of November early December for the rest of the networks. So Orange do have an exclusive for all of a few weeks. Obviously it will be available sim free early November from the usual sources.
Windows Mobile has nothing to fear from either the iPhone or Google Android, says Microsoft’s John Curran. TechRadar asked the Windows business lead for Microsoft UK how he saw Windows Mobile, Android and the iPhone divvying up market share in three years’ time. “Well I would have to say that number one would be, not surprisingly, Microsoft,” says Curran. “We’ve got over 50 partners… from a hardware perspective we’re really well positioned.” Placing Android and Apple in order in the remaining three rivals is “a tough call”, he continues. “One’s an emerging one, the other is a very limited form factor. If your after a Snow Globe type application to keep the children occupied when your out shopping or in the pub then you have to check out Super Snow Globe. This application is available from the iTunes App Store and it has themes for all occasions. Five themes in total, Halloween, Autumn (which they call Fall), Winter, Christmas and New Year. Each theme has different music to accompany the scene. You can also choose between the traditional snow globe format of a limited amount of ghosts/leaves/snow/stars/champagne bubbles falling to the bottom of the screen or a constant fall of the objects which is never ending.

Ok if your waiting patiently for the Xperia X1 you probably don’t want to see the series of videos we have after the break. A guy with a pair of white gloves, tweezers and a guitar plectrum strips the Xperia X1 down to its component parts and then somehow manages to put it all back together again and get this, there are no spare screws left at the end, quite amazing. BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) has announced new plans to expand the development and uptake of applications on its range of smartphones. The plans include a new application storefront, as well as an on-device application centre designed to help developers expand their reach while giving consumers greater choice and easier management of their programs, according to RIM.
