HD2 gets ROM update

htc-hd2

Today the UK HTC website has added a new ROM (1.48.405.2). It adds several improvements – Opera now switches easily from portrait to landscape mode, flipping back and forth through songs on the HTCmedia player is now easier plus there’s enhanced audio quality in calls.
This is a generic update, so we’ve got the usual wait for owners of network-supplied HD2’s, but hopefully we’ll be seeing the appropriate update online soon.

Google Goggles hits Android

3f317f35-c88c-4890-a8f0-512e4256bb74

All privacy issues aside Google Goggles looks like a pretty swish time saver that I know I would use. By using the camera and GPS functionality in the phone Goggles looks up information on whatever it is you point the lens at. A business, restaurant, plant or book. Business card recongnition has been around for a while and it’s like taking this feature and using if for everything. Have a look at the video after the break.

Google Phone is Android HD2

HTCPassiongooglephone It looks like Google is employing HTC to build them a phone. Those who remember the first Android device, the G1, will remember how this was to be the big Google phone on the market, Not so it would appear. Google at putting their backing in an unlocked device designed to storm and conform the market.

It’s a GSM device running Android 2.1 and reports are that it will be released in January of 2010, stateside. With a Snapdragon processor and a gorgeous OLED display the devices looks to be the HTC Passion or Dragon with heavy Googleisation. The Dragon was to be the Android equivalent of the HD2.

Vodafone and Orange snubbing the HTC HD2

HTC-HD2

MSmobiles.com is reporting that the Vodafone is halting sales of the HTC HD2. Having used the device for a week or so I’m quite shocked by this. I did experience the odd lag but not enough to make me stop using the device, as a seasoned vet of Windows Mobile I’m used to the OS having lazy days.
MSmobiles.com dares to suggest that reason the HD2 sales are being refused are that both Orange and Vodafone are going to focus sales towards the iPhone. Have a read at article and see what you think.
