iPhone Bluetooth Keyboard Driver coming to Cydia soon

The iPhone Bluetooth Keyboard driver allows you to use a Bluetooth keyboard with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Foldable, travel-friendly keyboards have been supported for at least a half of a decade by all smartphones, except by the iPhone. That is a shame, as the the iPhone is a compact computer you already carry around. Combined with a portable keyboard, it can replace your laptop for taking notes or writing emails at meetings or at your favorite coffee shop.

This iPhone Bluetooth keyboard driver fills this gap. It is based on the open-source BTstack project, a Bluetooth stack designed for embedded devices where resources are scarce.

This driver runs on the iPhone 3G(S) and all iPod touch devices with Bluetooth support. It is unclear yet, if it works properly on the iPhone 2G. It will be available via the Cydia Store soon.

Pre Order Vodafone iPhone today for delivery 14th Janurary

image Vodafone have opened the pre-order channels for the much anticipated appearance of the worlds best phone on their network. The contract prices surprise surprise are not exactly ground breaking or price war stimulating to say the least, but if your like me and have struggled with bad coverage from O2 this may be a god send, plus you can always add on the Vodafone Access Gateway which is a femtocell that should give you a full signal using your ADSL or Cable broadband.

All the pre-order and price plan details can be found right here, good luck, took me five attempts this morning to complete the order, looks like demand is strong.

Nokia N900 unboxing video

This is NOT your average unboxing video!

I’ve been trying to get my hands on the Nokia N900 for a while now, many of you have emailed me asking for a review or asking questions about the N900 so we’ve been bugging Nokia for a review model almost daily!

About a week ago I had an email from Nokia asking if I would like to try out one of their new handsets, but the catch was that they were unable to tell me which one they were going to send me! Not a problem I said, we’ll take a look anyway.

The Nokia N900

The Nokia N900

So a few days ago this large, heavy black plastic cube turned up in the office. There were no instructions, no list of contents, just a USB to MiniUSB cable supplied. There was no obvious way to open the box – a little puzzle! 🙂

So first of all we connected the box up to a PC with the USB cable to see what would happen, when Windows reported that it was installing drivers for a USB to Serial bridge and added a serial device on COM4 I thought it would be a good idea to start a terminal connection to it and, well watch the video below to see what happened next.

Red Dwarf app launches

splash

On the 21st birthday of the cult TV series, the official Red Dwarf Soundboard App is now available from the App Store. The app means iPhone and iPod touch users can now carry the sounds of the Red Dwarf crew around in their pocket, as the rest of us are forced to endure them.

There’s no less than 32 iconic audio clips from the TV series, letting users re-live the classic lines over and over again from, you guessed it, "smeg head" to " smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast".  There’s also a slideshow of stills for when the audio gets tired, which we reckon will be about 45 seconds after you download the app.

The Red Dwarf Soundboard App is available for £1.19 from the App Store.

Handy Shell v2.0 now available for S60

Handy_Shell_S60_01

Paragon Software have released version 2.0 of Handy Shell, a replacement stand-by screen for your S60 smartphones which provides huge levels of customisation and interaction over and above the regular active stand-by screen on your phone.

Based around four different views of your device, the app is called up with the menu key, and takes over the S60 interface for a much more customisable experience. A number of plug-in modules are available including a new “Photos” view for instant access to your media. This sits alongside the existing plug-ins including weather and contacts.

Also added in the new version is the “3D Cube” spinning system for fast access around the four views (each of them is one side of the cube); this is one of the improvements added for touch devices. Read more at Paragon/Epocware.
