TAT show off some BlackBerry PlayBook funkiness

The-astonishing-tribe1

TAT (The Astonishing Tribe) have been showing off what they do best at MWC this week. The Swedish UI design company were purchased by Research in Motion a while ago and at MWC they have been demonstrating why.

In the following video you can see several BlackBerry Playbook’s integrating with one another in a way I have not seen with any device before. It is truly remarkable.

Whether you are a BlackBerry fan or not you have to see this. It is the cleverest thing I have seen in a long time. I can certainly see why RIM made the acquisition.

You can see the video below:

QNX powered Porsche 911 at Mobile World Congress 2012

porscheqnx_1 If you missed seeing the QNX powered Porsche 911 at CES last month we now have another opportunity as the car is being showcased at MWC.

The Porsche supports NFC so one touch from the BlackBerry Smartphone will tell the car you are in it and then activate the car options. With the BlackBerry PlayBook mounted on the dashboard you will see that the PlayBook can control media in the car, phone calls and voice recognition for satellite navigation.

If you have not seen the QNX powered Porsche before I suggest you take a peek at the below video as it just goes to show us the power of the operating system and how well it can be integrated into cars.

Now I wonder if RIM will send me one to review?

Renault equips its New Twingo with CoPilot Live GPS navigation

Twingo

ALK Technologies, leading provider of mobile navigation software, today announced that its CoPilot Live GPS navigation app has been selected by Renault as an integral part of an iPhone-based infotainment system for the new Twingo. Make sure you have the best bike tracking devices to guide yourself with the location. Best GPS prices at Tracking System Direct.

CoPilot Live is fully integrated in-car as part of the revolutionary Oxygen Audio O Car system* available for the new Renault Twingo. Simply place your iPhone into the cradle and it becomes part of your car’s dashboard, allowing control of all car stereo functions through a dedicated app: e-Renault. The “most needed” tasks such as your Music, your Phone, your Navigation and the new Eco-Driving Renault feature are all easily accessible with a single tap while on the road.

The system brings outstanding interaction between phone and car. CoPilot Live’s voice-guided navigation instructions are seemlessly played through the Twingo’s audio system and speakers. Auto-muting of radio programmes and music ensure that Renault drivers won’t miss a turn, and navigation automatically pauses and resumes during and after phone calls.

Klaus Kremer – Director Business Development EMEA at ALK Technologies said “We are very proud that CoPilot Live has been selected as navigation provider by Renault for this ground-breaking project. It’s a demonstration of how the smartphone is becoming the hub of today’s connected vehicle.”

The Oxygen Audio O Car system is available as a dealer-fit option with the New Renault Twingo.

The e-Renault app will be available for free via the AppStore, and includes a 30 day navigation trial. After 30 days all features remain functional except for the navigation component. Users can purchase a full navigation license directly from the app.

BlackBerry demo social sharing with NFC

BB Logo

NFC is one of those features that more and more smartphones are coming with. However, at this moment in time it is not a feature that we can use in everyday life.

At the BlackBerry stand at Mobile World Congress RIM have set up some ‘Like Stations’ which enable visitors with NFC enabled phones to share information via Facebook or Twitter.

This goes to show how easy and quick using NFC can be and it is only a matter of time until we see NFC smart tags appearing more frequently.

You can see a brief demo below courtesy of RIM.

Skype launches beta app for Windows Phone – Video

Screen Shot 2012-02-27 at 11.04.43

With this mornings announcement by Nokia that the Lumia 900 will grace our shores here in Europe one of the key apps that this device will benefit from is Skype due to the Lumia 900 having a front facing camera.

Skype have today released a beta version of their app for Windows Phone which is available to download from the Marketplace. With it still being in beta I found the UI to be a bit bland in comparison with Android and iOS but I am sure this will be addressed in the full version.

Skype calling and instant messaging works just fine. I tested it myself, although not being able to use video chat due to lack of front facing camera on my hardware.

You can see a demo of the Skype app in action below:
