New Samsung Windows Phone 7 Series handset

Samsung 7

New devices are something that we all are interested to see when it comes to Windows Phone 7 Series.

We have seen so far a prototype, an LG Slider and now a new shiny Samsung slate. While doing a ‘7’ demo at MIX Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore produced the Samsung, which has not been seen before. Although the specs has not been announced just yet it will have to meet the minimum specs so will have at least a 256MB of RAM and 8GB of flash and those all important three keys. I would imagine we will hear more about this device over the coming days. It sure looks sweet though with its Super AMOLED screen and shiny chrome outer edge.

Microsoft also confirmed that the HTC HD2 would not be eligible for an upgrade to Windows Phone 7 Series. We already knew this from our two interviews with Microsoft, but once again they have said it is due to the HD2 not having those special three buttons. I feel for you guys that bought the HTC HD2 thinking it would be eligible but its not going to happen. It will be interesting to see exactly how the new ‘7’  devices compare spec wise. Maybe the HD2 isn’t up to the job?

HTC HD3 – Real or Fake it looks beautiful

hd3 2

We have been sent a link to mobilementalism.com where they have alleged to have leaked pictures of the forthcoming HTC HD3.

As most of you know, here at tracyandmatt we tend not to believe this type of thing until we have heard it from one of our regular sources. I am not going to say this is the HD3 but the reason I have chosen to post this is what if HTCs forthcoming Windows Phone 7 Series device is just like this. It would be awesome.

Chances are this may well be a fake but I cant imagine this is too far from what we will see from HTC in the not too distant future. Check out the alleged specs:

Windows phone 7 Series at MIX

7-series_2 If you are not aware then let me tell you that Microsoft launched there MIX event in the United States yesterday.

The event, lasting three days is pretty much an insight into Windows Phone 7 Series covering all the things that Microsoft could or would not tell us at Mobile World Congress.

As we are not at the event the amount that we can cover is very limited. We will bring you what news we can, however we will try and focus on any device news we can get our hands on.

Pocketnow.com are at the event and produced a tonne of news on there site yesterday, so you may want to have a look there periodically throughout the next couple of days.

Whether you like the look of Windows Phone 7 Series or not its big news and personally I cant wait to get my hands on one of the new devices when its launched towards the end of the year.

Please feel free to use the forum to let us know your thoughts. We would love to discuss it with you.

Vodafone get HTC Legend exclusive?

leg v

Well that’s a turn up for the books. It looks like the only network you will be able to buy the HTC Legend on will be Vodafone!

I posted over the weekend that Vodafone had a sweet selection of devices coming soon and it would appear that the Legend is not being shared with the other UK carriers. That’s too bad if you ask me as the Legend is an awesome device and one that I believe will sell like hot cakes.

Such a shame that many people will now miss out if they are not willing to switch to Vodafone.

If you did not see our HTC Legend review please do so. It’s a good read, even if I do say so myself 🙂

A fine selection of devices coming to Vodafone

vodafone-logo I just popped over to the coming soon pages on the Vodafone site and they have some seriously cool devices heading their way.

I posted earlier that the Sony Ericsson Vivaz is now available and this will be followed shortly by the Xperia X10 which looks set to be very popular with its Android OS and 8mp camera.

Vodafone are also to have the HTC Legend, HTC Desire and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and, later on, they will also have the Nexus One. Interesting that they will carry the Desire and the Nexus One as they are so very similar.

You’ll find full details and the official press release after the jump. There is one thing that we will want to check out is the Vodafone version of the HTC Legend as Vodafone will be adding Vodafone 360 to it and that can be very much a love/hate thing!

Sony Ericsson Vivaz free on Vodafone

Vivaz_Front There is a new wave of Sony Ericsson handsets coming over the next month or two and the first one, the Vivaz is now available on Vodafone.

The device is free on contracts starting at £30 per month and I think this device will appeal to not only Symbian users, but everyone. Sony Ericsson have put a nice overlay on top of the traditional Symbian one so its almost like not using a Symbian handset.

Sporting HD video recording and a 8.1 MP camera the Vivaz is certain to get a decent number of sales. Lets just hope Sony Ericsson have less issues with this device than they had with the last one, the Satio.

Matt unboxed the Vivaz last week and I now have the device so keep you eyes peeled this week for the full review.

HTC Tattoo to get upgrade to Eclair

HTC have confirmed that the HTC Tattoo will be getting the upgrade to Android 2.1, Eclair.  Tattoo

No date has been announced yet as HTC are still in the process of porting Sense UI to the version.

So if you have a HTC tattoo sim free then be patient, the update is coming.

Here in the UK, if you have the Orange branded version I’m afraid it could be a much longer waiting game. I will pop an email over to Orange but I would imagine an update, if any, could be some way off.

Top Smartphone Platforms

bb apple

I found an interesting chart on the internet today showing the Smartphone market share for the last quarter in the USA.

As you will see it was good news for BlackBerry and iPhones and even better news for Google Android (which had the biggest percentage growth).

However things are not looking good for both Windows Mobile and Palm. Both companies had a big decrease in market share. Microsoft will clearly be able to turn that around later this year with the release of Windows Phone 7 Series but can Palm do the same? Although they introduced the new Web OS last year it clearly didn’t work. They are going to have to put there thinking hats on this year if they are going to continue to play with the big boys!

New YouTube client for Windows Phones and S60

youtubewindows

Using a Symbian or Windows Phone? Well if so then you will be pleased to hear that YouTube have a new version of their app.

Having YouTube on your phone is nothing new and most manufactures pre-install install the app however this latest version does bring some nice changes.

The biggest change, which in my opinion is good news, is that the app will support your own account, meaning you can easily view your favourite videos and subscriptions.

The application also comes with a new layout which is meant to be better for larger screen devices.

I will record a short video demonstrating the app in use but this will have to wait. I need to go do some work!

If you want to give it a try now just point your phones browser to – m.YouTube.com/app

HTC Legend Review

HTC Legend ReviewTo say we were excited to get the HTC Legend was an understatement! The Legend is the first of four devices officially announced by HTC at mobile world congress and we have been lucky to get our hands on it fairly swiftly. The HTC Desire, HD Mini and Smart are to follow shortly.

As expected with all new HTC devices the media has been buzzing like mad about the Legend and rightly so. As a follow on from the HTC Hero, the Legend, still sporting a chin, is going to be a hugely popular device and chances are that if you are reading this you will more than likely be interested in getting the Legend.

With its sleek unibody design with a brilliant AMOLED display and a brushed metallic finish, the Legend  is an attractive handset.

Lets have a look at it in a bit more detail and see if it’s a worthy follow on from the HTC Hero. Read on for the full review.
