RIM announces BlackBerry Travel App

Capture8_51_21

Research In Motion (RIM) today announced BlackBerry Travel, a new app that provides BlackBerry Smartphone users with an all-in-one integrated and contextual experience as they plan, book and manage their travels and itineraries while on the go.

“The BlackBerry Travel app is set to be the next must-have tool for travelers, offering convenient push notifications and seamless integration of travel itineraries, profiles, and flight status updates into the familiar BlackBerry Calendar,” said Jim Tobin, senior vice president, software and services at RIM. “We also think the BlackBerry Travel app represents a great opportunity for travel industry leaders to work with RIM to deliver enhanced services and better travel experiences for their customers, and new revenue opportunities for travel providers.”

When a new booking confirmation or itinerary arrives in the user’s inbox, the BlackBerry Travel app is automatically updated with the relevant details, which makes travel planning and management easier than ever.

BlackBerry smartphone users can also have their calendars automatically populated with itineraries as soon as they are confirmed and, by leveraging the BlackBerry push technology, the BlackBerry Travel app can keep users informed and in control of their itineraries by monitoring flight statuses and promptly providing notifications about changes. The app can even identify potential omissions or scheduling concerns with the itineraries, such as missing accommodations or timing conflicts, and provide users with suggestions.

Google Translate for iPhone – Video

iphone-google-translate

There is nothing more frustrating than being on holiday and not being able to ask for something in the native language. That is where Google Translate for the iPhone comes in handy. In fact, maybe invaluable.

As you will see in the video, the application allows you to choose from an array of languages and within a second or two have a translation. And if you don’t fancy trying to pronounce the words in the the other language you can get the iPhone to do it for you.

A simple application but in my opinion a pure genius one.

Mobile World Congress 2011 – Let the fun begin

mwc-logo

Unless you have had your head in the sand you will know that Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona, Spain, tomorrow. Here in Europe it is the mobile event of the year where all the major manufactures announce new products and services.

Our man Gareth will be at MWC over the next four days to attend all the press events and get hands on with the new devices that are announced.

As well as the usual press events Gareth will have one to one sessions with many of our favorite manufactures to not only get some super video footage but also to ask questions like a proper interview!

There have been plenty of rumors and leaks over the last week or two but now we only have 24-48 hours left before we finally get to see what new Smartphones we can expect to be reviewing over the coming months.

Rather exciting if you ask me so keep your eyes on the site and Twitter over the next few days. We will have all the press releases go live as soon as we receive them and as long as the internet works in Barcelona we will also have some of Gareth’s video footage too.

Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 up for pre order!

Screen shot 2011-02-11 at 16.59.33

Those cheeky chaps at mobilefun.co.uk have the Samsung Galaxy S2 up for pre order. The Galaxy S2 is one of the devices we believe that Samsung are due to announced on Sunday at Mobile World Congress.

Now, I don’t suppose that Samsung are particularly happy with mobilefun for putting the device on their site so early and I expect they may even open a can of whoopass on them. I would. Cheeky beggers!

Anyway, you can see the specs below that mobilefun are advertising and after speaking with some people who know stuff I think the specs are pretty spot on.
