Sony Ericsson and Gameloft partner to launch Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard exclusively on Xperia PLAY and over 20 games to be showcased at E3

Rainbow-Six-Shadow-Vanguard

Sony Ericsson is again teaming up with Gameloft, a leading global publisher of digital and social games, to deliver an exclusive experience for its flagship gaming smartphone – Xperia PLAY – with exclusive access to the all-action spy thriller shooter game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard, adapted from the famous Ubisoft video game franchise. Taking full advantage of the smartphone’s outstanding graphical capabilities and game-changing control pad, Xperia PLAY brings the high-octane international action adventure to the Android operating system for the first time. The Android version of the game, which will be launched on Friday 3rd June, will be available only to Xperia PLAY customers in Western Europe throughout June and July.

Adapted from the famous Ubisoft’s video game franchise, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six is one of the most popular video game brands. It’s a high-energy tactical first-person shooter game based on a fictional international counter-terrorist unit called “Rainbow.”  Focusing more on stealth and tactics than firepower alone, weapons (including assault rifles and high-caliber handguns), uniforms and equipment are chosen to suit each operative’s skills and the mission.

BlackBerry PlayBook Review

BlackBerry PlayBook ReviewJust a couple of weeks after the BlackBerry PlayBook launched in North America I was lucky enough to get one of the first review devices to arrive here in the UK. To say I have been looking forward to reviewing the PlayBook would be an understatement. As a big BlackBerry fan I am hoping I can see the PlayBook taking over the role of my Apple iPad which I use every morning and evening. Could this smaller form factor make me take a tablet to work with me each day?

The PlayBook is RIM’s first attempt at the tablet market and many have been quick to slate the PlayBook. I am going to give it a fair crack of the whip and by the time this review is complete I would have spent nearly three full weeks with the device. Now although I am a BlackBerry fan I hope you all realise from past experience that if a product does not live up to expectation we here at tracyandmatt will certainly say so.

Lets crack on and have a good look around both the hardware and software of what I am hoping will be my new companion.

Vodafone reduce roaming charges

vodafone-logo-vbig

From today (June 1st), all Vodafone customers can use up to 25MB of data per day in 35 European countries. Regular travellers can opt to pay £10 a month, while customers travelling out of Europe can enjoy the same 25MB data allowance for £5 per day.

Heavier business users on the Vodafone Euro Traveller tariff (£36.50+VAT per month) will get 1GB of data, per month, to use in Europe. For other users, it will cost £8 for up to 100MB of data a day in Europe, or £25 a day outside Europe.

In addition, to eliminate the chance of shocking bills, Vodafone is introducing a £100 monthly cap on data usage for customers outside of Europe (users within Europe already receive these warnings), with a text alert when 80% of their monthly spending limit is reached. The automatic bar can then be removed only by sending a text (‘STOP’ to 40209) or calling customer services.

Vodafone is also reminding users to make sure they opt-in to Vodafone Passport, which allows customers visiting European countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand, to call back to the UK (or make call within the visited country) at their standard home rate for a fixed connection fee of 75p. Vodafone Passport users can even use their inclusive minutes if they are on contract.

Finally, the network is introducing daily text allowances. Customers on a price plan of £40 or above, and with 900 or more minutes per month, will receive a free allowance of 10 texts per day to use within Europe. Customers on lower price plans can opt in for £10 a month.

Phones 4U to sell the HTC ChaCha this week

ChaCha

Phones 4u will this week start selling the HTC Cha Cha (so we are told), the first Facebook centric phone to be offered by the retailer. Remember this is one of two ‘Facebook’ phones that HTC announced back in February.

With a dedicated Facebook button the ChaCha will allow users to quickly share photos, locations, status updates etc.

Phones 4U are pricing the ChaCha at £300 on PAYG and from free on a £20 per month contract.

HTC EMEA operations and sales VP Jon French said: “This model is completely different from any other handset we’ve developed and has been designed specifically for those who share their lives through Facebook as second nature.

“It’s a great fit for Phones 4u, offering its audience a great blend of smartphone performance with the enhanced ability to chat or share their thoughts, photos and location even more easily than before.”

Motorola Atrix Laptop Dock Unboxing and Demo Video

Screen shot 2011-05-30 at 18.32.13

Hopefully you saw the Atrix unboxing video I did last week. In that video you would have seen that Motorola kindly sent us the laptop dock as well to include in our review. I said at the time that we would do a separate video of the laptop dock and here it is.

If you are not aware of this accessory then to cut a long story short the Motorola Atrix docks in the rear of the laptop. You the have a full sized laptop to use with the phones interface and features.

As the Laptop Dock doesn’t need to house any computer chips or a hard drive, it can be impossibly thin while still having the space to hold a 36Wh 3-cell battery that is good for up to 8 hours of continuous use. As it doesn’t require any power from your phone, when you’re done working on the Laptop Dock simply fold it away and remove your phone which has been quietly charging while you work.

Your best bet is to just watch the video below.

Blaq for BlackBerry PlayBook hits App World

Blaq

If you are in North America or one of the few people over here in the UK to have a BlackBerry PlayBook it is good news all round if you use Twitter. Blaq is now available in BlackBerry App World priced at $1.99.

Since I got my PlayBook a few weeks ago the fact that it did not have a decent Twitter client was more than frustrating to say the least.

Our prayers have been answered! Blaq is not perfect and has fairly basic Twitter use at present however, for an initial release it is super and I look forward to updates in the future. As you can see from the screen shot the colours and user interface are much the same as on the BlackBerry Smartphone version.

It is now just over two weeks until the BlackBerry PlayBook is released here in the UK. Our full review will be on the site this week so keep your eyes peeled.
