I am not really a book reader and reviewing them isn’t really my thing but I was talking to a friend of mine recently who has written one and I thought it may be worth a read. Windows Phone 7 Companion has been written by Matthew Miller. If the name doesn’t ring a bell then still you may of read his previous work. Matt not only writes for ZDNet.com but also runs nokiaexperts.com which is part of the Smartphone Experts group of websites.
I have been using Windows Phone 7 since launch and although I am pretty up to speed with the new operating system I thought that by reading the book I am bound to find out things that I didn’t know. And I was right.
With the recent news that Nokia will be using Windows Phone 7 as their primary OS in the future the WP7 market share is due to rocket. This means millions and millions of people will be getting a phone with a brand new operating system to them. For many people this is a daunting experience and maybe even a bit scary. This is where Windows Phone 7 Companion may well come in handy. What better than to have one place where you can discover all the benefits to your new Smartphone software and have all your questions answered.
Three have announced today the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Pro on their network. The Android 2.2 device is another front facing QWERTY design that we have seen more recently from the likes of Motorola with the Droid Pro.
In the video below you can see the Galaxy Pro in the hands of a Three spokesperson. Focus is very much on the social hub feature which integrates your social networking apps. A great feature that I have used on other platforms.
I don’t have the full specs for this one but when we do we will let you have them.
Check out the funky video below.
If you are a regular to our podcast you’ll know that I’ve recently been ranting about various UK carriers reducing the caps on their ‘unlimited’ data bundles and/or increasing the cost. Today Three are bucking that trend and have announced a new ‘all-you-can-eat’ data plan for Pay As You Go customers.
As their press releases states, which you can see below, this could well shake up the whole industry. Lets hope it leads to much greater competition on data!
Earlier on this week we announced that Pocket Cinema was available for download to the BlackBerry Torch and I promised to do a short video demonstrating it. I’m a man of my word so here it is.
The application seems to work flawlessly. As you will see, navigating around the app is a breeze. Prices vary depending on the movie but all in all I think this is pretty good value for money. Perfect for taking on an aeroplane for example.

Earlier this week I managed to get hands on with the Motorola ATRIX here in London. The ATRIX is touted by Motorola as being ‘the worlds fastest Smartphone’. Is it? I don’t know but what I can tell you is that is pretty nippy. Where the ATRIX really excels is when its webtop application is running. This can be one of two ways. Either by docking the ATRIX with a TV and using a wireless mouse and keyboard, or when docked with the laptop accessory that can be purchased. Both are fantastic and as you will see in the video below I was super impressed. I cant think of another phone that currently offers the same experience and Motorola have clearly worked hard to achieve this new option that will be a huge selling tool for them.
See what you think after the break:
The Motorola XOOM was announced in January at CES and also got pricing this week here in the UK. Motorola kindly invited me to pop into their offices the other day to get hands on with the XOOM and what a nice experience it was too. Rather than me mess about with it on video I decided to let an expert give me a demo.
My early impressions of the XOOM are very positive. Honeycomb on a tablet is truly awesome and I kind of fell in love with the new interactive widgets.
Check out our fantastic video below.
Not so long ago digital SLR cameras cost upward of a thousand pounds and were really only the domain of professionals and serious amateurs. More recently the DSLR market has opened up somewhat with entry level models costing hundreds rather than thousands of pounds.
Just the other day blog.IAMNikon.com sent us the new Nikon D3100. Aimed at those wishing to advance from the digital compact ‘point-and-shoot’ camera to something with more control. It packs some features that would be typically found on your average compact that make the transition a little easier. There’s a live view mode with full AF and a guide mode with on-screen help and prompts.
The D3100 even features HD video recording!
Below you’ll see my unboxing video of the D3100 and the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm lens in a kit. I’m much more used to Canon DSLR’s so please forgive my lack of familiarity with the Nikon. It hasn’t taken me long to get in to it though!
This week the guys manage a little chat about all things Apple. Pebble Dasher Matt gets all in a fluster about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. Nvidia launch an Android gaming store and T-Mobile lead the way in better value contracts.
