The giant Vodafone truck that can charge 2000 handsets at one time

photo-7-520x274

If you’ve been to a festival or large open-air event, you will know that keeping your mobile phone charged can be a potential nightmare.

Solutions have come in the form of independent companies setting up camps and charging festival-goers to power their smartphones so that they could remain contactable and use them to snap photos of their favourite bands.

However, one truck looks set to change all that.

The Vodafone VIP recharging truck is heading to 11 festivals this year, offering Vodafone customers with the opportunity to charge their mobile devices, completely free of charge. The 44 tonne vehicle can charge 2,000 devices at any one time (as quickly as it would at home) and is expected to charge over 72,000 mobile devices this summer alone.

If you’re a Vodafone customer at a festival and you own an Android, iPhone, BlackBerry or Nokia device, this is what you need to look out for. For more information about the events it will be available at visit http://vodafone.co.uk/vip.

Pretty cool. You can see a few more photos below:

Samsung Wave 2 Review

Wave2-mainThis is quite a rarity these days, a Samsung phone that doesn’t have the Galaxy brand name. The Samsung Wave 2 is the successor to the relatively popular Wave from last year. It has a few really nice improvements that are evident from the off, all of which you will discover as you progress through the review.

James reviewed the original Samsung Wave last year and it got a pretty good review, especially for a new OS. The Wave 2 has lost the AMOLED screen that its predecessor had I am afraid but I wont let dampen my thoughts.

So will the Wave 2 be a worthy entry into the mass smartphone market? Or will it just be another entry that gets left behind?

Read on to find out.

Unilever launches The Lynx Stream mobile app for iOS and Android

ios_1

Unilever, one of the world’s largest consumer goods companies, has created the first mobile app to capture the real-time social elements of Facebook, Twitter and mobile phone activity to produce a record of unforgettable nights out.

The Lynx Stream, developed for deodorant brand Lynx / AXE, collects every video, picture, text, tweet, check-in and status update a group of friends makes to produce an automatic Stream of the night and highlight video, which can be watched online and shared through social networks.

The mobile app, available to download for free from the iTunes Store and Android Market, has been created with the intention to drive brand loyalty and engagement by providing an essential social tool for young people.

The Lynx Stream will also act as a media channel in future brand and product campaigns where content can be published directly to Lynx followers.

Josh Dean, Lynx Global Brand Manager, comments:

“When we design Lynx products we ask ourselves how will it fit into young guys’ lives and how will it make them more confident and attractive in the mating game.  The Lynx Stream has been developed with the same thought process.  Our guys are living on their mobile phones so it makes sense to build an app that adds significant value to their lives by enabling them to capture unforgettable nights out.  And if Lynx is helping to facilitate great memories and is part of the memory then it stands to reason that people will save some affection for the brand itself.”

Todays WP7 Event: My Thoughts

May-24-about-Windows-Phone-7-Mango

We posted earlier the press release from Microsoft detailing some of the highlights of the Windows Phone 7 ‘Mango’ update that is due out later this year. I wasn’t able to attend myself so I sent our man Phil along to see what Microsoft have up their sleeves. Phil has recently started developing for WP7 so he seemed the perfect person to attend the event.

Many have said that todays new features should have been included in the OS from day one and I tend to agree with them. However, what’s done is done and we must look to the future.

Below are the key points Phil picked up on and also his own thoughts on today’s ‘Mango’ announcement.
