Microsoft Pink Smartphone To Stay Microsoft Branded

Microsoft is rumoured to be releasing the new Pink smartphone under its own in-house branding.

Until now Microsoft has maintained that it is “committed to the licensing model”, but according to comments on CNET.com the device will actually be branded as a Microsoft handset.

We would expect the handset to be running the newest version of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system, which depending on release will probably be Windows 7.

If the rumours are to be believed then the handset will be reserving a custom UI to sit atop the OS, one which will presumably remain unique to Microsoft’s own-branded handsets, rather than those running the re-sold Windows 7 OS.

Last we heard of the Pink project, the handset was being designed by Microsoft, with manufacture going to a third-party; this latest rumour flies in the face of official comments regarding an own-branded Microsoft handset and no doubt places Microsoft as a direct competitor of other handsets that will be running the Windows 7 system.

There’s no specs to report just yet, but we’d expect some serious touchscreen real-estate on board as well as the other usual suspects amongst the high-end feature set.

Apple talking to T-Mobile UK about the iPhone 3G

image The days of O2’s exclusive hold on the iPhone are probably numbered – T-Mobile has told The Register that  it’s in talks with Apple about ranging the iPhone 3G in the next few months.

The deals being discussed only include the iPhone 3G, and O2’s exclusive on the 3GS seems to be secure. But even this represents a major shift in how Apple markets the iPhone, which currently relies on network exclusives to get a decent subsidy; giving that up shows either greater confidence or reflected disappointment in how O2 has priced up the latest offering.

T-Mobile has been telling callers that the company is in talks with Apple about ranging the iPhone 3G, and Orange is also rumoured to have plans regarding Apple’s last-version handset. That would leave O2 to explain to users why the 3GS is better; doing Apple’s marketing for it.

Sony Ericsson Bao Leaked

The internet today seems to be filled with leaked shots of handsets and now its the turn of Sony Ericsson with their handset codenamed Sony Ericsson Bao.

The Bao is a clamshell that not only looks like a Rubik’s Cube, but is almost as thick as one, ok maybe a slight exaggeration there but it certainly aint a phone on a diet.

bao0 bao2 bao3

Sony must have spent all its creative juices on its pair of touchscreen beauties, the Sony Ericsson Satio and Aino, because the Sony Ericsson Bao certainly isn’t so swish.

Oh, and if you were wondering, no it’s not just you, the Sony Ericsson Bao is a carbon copy of the Nokia Prism.

There are no known specs for the Sony Ericsson Bao just yet other than there being a camera lens on the back, but the screen is about the size of a postage stamp, so don’t expect this to be the Sony Ericsson Android phone we’re all eagerly awaiting.

Bruno for iPhone released

Sacha Noam Baron Cohen is the biggest comedian of 21st century and he blows away all other comedians, who now look, in comparison, like innocent little girls. Firstly Sacha created character of British chav – Alli G (Sacha was born in UK so he knows something about chavs). Then came Borat – a reporter from Kazachastan – and first big success of Sacha – the Borat movie. And now comes Bruno – a fashionista from Austria (not to confuse with Australia) – the movie – released merely 2 days ago and we have already seen it! Since Bruno movie exposes several prejudices it is definitely worth seeing.

Moreover there is an app for Bruno too, but you must confirm that you are at least 17 years old to download it:

Acer Aspire 4810T unboxing video

We’ve reviewed Acer laptops in the past and have always been pretty impressed with their performance and value for money. Last week Acer sent us their new Aspire 4810T to put through its paces. Part of the Timeline range the 4810T looks understated at first in a simple silver/grey chassis but this works really well on the slim package and definitely grows on you.

The Acer Aspire 4810T

The Acer Aspire 4810T

Perhaps the one thing that makes the Aspire stand out from the rest of the crowd is the claim that the battery life is around 9 hours! Now we’ve all heard claims of exceptional battery life from manufacturers and they are often then subject to a caveat that it’s x hours of light use. However, my initial findings with the 4810T is that the claims could well be true. Having initially set it up yesterday and installing apps such as Firefox etc and then browsing the web for a few hours, the battery status says 35% remaining and 2.5 hours. We’ll know more about that later.

So for now, have a look at the unboxing video below where you’ll be able to see the laptop in a little more detail. Note though that the accessories seem to be missing from my review model.
