Unlocked Palm Pre, job done!

Engadget are reporting that the GSM Palm Pre has already been unlocked but its not a software solution, it relies upon a small insert that goes into the phone with the Sim Card and fools the phone into thinking it is on O2.

All 3G data and voice features are working fine and there is a video of it in action above. Unfortunately Engadget are also reporting that the European Pre does not have the radios for US 3G so if you do decide to import one into the US be prepared for Edge only data.

HTC HD2 video

Just a short while ago James managed to get his hands on the excellent HTC HD2, he is extremely impressed with it and in his words he was ‘Not sure if he was shaking because it was my first piece of video for T&M or because I loved the handset so much!’

So James has recorded this brief video for us, the first of many I hope and for now it’s just a quick tour of the handset. We shall, of course, have move video for you shortly but thought you would appreciate this little teaser!

Today is a sn0w day, unlock your iPhones

Today is the day a lot of iPhone users have been waiting for, after agonising over updating to 3.1.2 firmware in the fear of losing the ability to be able to sim unlock your iPhone in the future, that is all about to change.

GEORGE HOTZ is about to release blacksn0w which is the unlock for the latest 05.11.07 baseband, and will also enable official tethering. blackra1n, a jailbreak for 3.1.2, has been updated to RC3, with hacktivation support, 15 second speed improvement, Tiger+PPC support, and installation of the latest blackra1n.app

If you are a loyal blackra1n user who kept the blackra1n.app on your iPhone, run it. You will see Icy replaced by an option "ra1n". Install this to upgrade your app. After upgrading, run blackra1n.app again. You will see "sn0w". Install this, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.

If you are new to the scene, just looking for an unlock, finally ready to upgrade to 3.1.2 and the accompanying baseband, willing to restore for the latest and greatest, or stuck on the "Connect to iTunes" screen, you are in luck. Jailbreaking and unlocking have never been easier. Go to blackra1n.com, click on the logo corresponding to your operating system, run the app, and click "make it ra1n". When your phone reboots, you’ll see blackra1n.app. Run this, install blacksn0w, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.

Also, a note. This may be the best iPhone users ever have it. Be sure, if you have a 3GS or iPod Touch 3, to use Cydia’s "On File" or Firmware Umbrella in order to be able to restore to 3.1.2 in the future. And as always, the baseband cannot be downgraded, so be *super* careful with updates if you need the unlock.

Sony Ericsson Satio unboxing video

Just last week we reviewed the Samsung Pixon12, the first mobile that we’d seen with a 12 megapixel camera. Now this week we’ve managed to get our hands on the Sony Ericsson Satio which has a 12.1 megapixel shooter. While there seems to be some debate over which company was the first to have a 12 megapixel camera phone it’s obvious that there’s some competition here!

The Sony Ericsson Satio

The Sony Ericsson Satio

It’s too early for us to say which is best but I have to say that I like the design of the Satio a little better and I think that the lens cover is a great idea. The Satio also seems to be a little more focused (no pun intended) towards the social networking side in terms of sharing your photos and geotagging them before uploading to various sharing sites. You may have seen the TV ads over the past few weeks.

James will be putting the Sony Ericsson Satio through it’s paces over the next week and will have his review for us soon. I’m sure he’ll be making comparisons between this and the Pixon12. If you have any questions for us then please do head over to the forum to submit, we’ll try to cover them in the review for you.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 – Officially Introduced

Monday 2nd November saw the official announcement of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

x3

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

The Xperia X10 will be the flagship device in a family of phones launching in the first half of 2010.  Although no official date has been released we have been told that the X10 will be with us in the first quarter.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be the first device to launch with SEs new UX platform that will evolve across the product portfolio and will expand over time introducing more features and capabilities.

Bert Nordberg, President, Sony Ericsson said, “The XPERIAT X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience. The reaction from our global operator partners to the XPERIA X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010.”

Rikko Sakaguchi, EVP and Chief Creation Officer, Sony Ericsson said, “The XPERIA X10 is a fantastic example of our make believe philosophy because we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and demonstrating that anything consumers can imagine, we can make possible. With the X10, we are raising the bar we have set ourselves with entertainment-rich phones like Aino and Satio by making communication more fun and playful, multiplying and enriching opportunities to connect.”

x3 1

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Introducing signature applications like Mediascape and Timescape, the XPERIA X10 lets consumers organise everything in their phone in an intuitive way:

  • Sony Ericsson Timescape manages all your communication with one person in one place. Browse through your conversations the bright way to check out your Facebook, Twitter, photos, emails, and texts all in one go.
  • Sony Ericsson Mediascape is the smart way to get all the music, photos and videos you want from your favorite friends and artists. It accesses content from everywhere – your phone, YouTube, PlayNow – and presents everything for you.

Intelligence capabilities, integrated into Mediascape and Timescape, can automatically recognize connections between contacts, content and media. By recommending alternative ways to communicate or guiding to new media experiences, consumers can discover more in a truly open way. For example:

  • Pressing the new “infinite button” guides you through the connected world, aggregating all your interactions with one person into one view.
  • Intelligent face recognition features recognize up to five faces in any picture, automatically connecting them with your social phonebook and all other related communications with that person.

An extra bonus was the announcement of a new wireless stereo headset, the WM600, with FM radio. Featuring advanced Bluetooth technology the WM600 lets you stream music to your headset in high fidelity through sound enhancing ear buds. The WM600 also sports its own OLED display, with RDS radio station information as well as easy access controls meaning you do not even need to get the phone out of your pocket to tune in your favorite radio station.

The Sony Ericsson X10 sure looks sweet and has some impressive specs. Here some of its best bits:

  • Camera: 8.1 megapixel with up to 16 x digital zoom and auto focus.
  • Bluetooth Stereo (A2DP), Playnow & TrackID.
  • Web: Google search from standby, web feeds and WebKit web browser.
  • Messaging: Email, Microsoft Exchange Active Sync, MMS & SMS.
  • Location based services: A-GPS, Google Maps & WisePilot navigation (free trial).
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5 Audio Jack & Micro USB connector.
