We don’t normally cover portable music players on MTA but we are interested in the just announced Zune HD mainly because it may give us some pointers to how Windows Mobile 7 may look. Well if it does it is going to look pretty sweet, especially with the multi-touch and capacitive goodness added to the screen.
Gizmodo have got some brief hands on time with a pre-release Zune HD and we have the video after the break.
With today’s release of Kinoma Play, the best way to find, play and share media on a mobile phone is now also the best way to find, play and share media across social networks and media services like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and Picasa. The new release of Kinoma Play for Windows Mobile builds on its leading, touch-optimized media experience to provide a social media experience that’s faster, more fun and more connected.
“The new Kinoma Play connects your media and your social networks with power and simplicity unavailable anywhere else,’ said Peter Hoddie, CEO of Kinoma, “It’s not just that we’ve added hundreds of new features — it’s how naturally they work together, and how easily they work together on the new Kinoma Play home screen.” This new Kinoma Play release includes:
The guys over at Techradar have managed to get their hands on the Nokia N97 for a second time, the first time was way back in January. This time it is still obviously a pre release version but they report that things are coming along quite nicely.
There have been some criticisms levelled at the processor, which is a single ARM 11 CPU, clocking around 434Mhz, and it seemed that certain elements of the phone struggled with such an underpowered effort.
Also compared to the Touch Pro2 that we looked at yesterday, we have to say that keyboard looks somewhat cheap and nasty, we shall see.
Google demonstrated some of the features they’ve been working on for Android OS 2.0 Donut while at I/O 2009, and thanks to Android Community, we’ve got video from the keynote to show you those changes in action. One of the biggest differences to 1.5 Cupcake is “Android Search”, which is the catch-all name for the platform’s new universal searching that queries contacts, calendars, music and online information. Take a look at the video after the break.
It doesn’t seem like long ago that I was all excited and telling you about the latest HTC Touch Diamond2 that I’d managed to get my hands on. However this week something else turned up at tracyandmatt towers that I think could be even better! I am of course referring to the eagerly awaited HTC Touch Pro2. I’ve been a fan of the HTC TyTN II for a long time and in fact I still have my original TyTN II and I use it now and then but almost 2 years on it looks and feels a bit old and the Pro2 is the obvious replacement. The Touch Pro just didn’t do it for me!
The HTC Touch Pro2
So here we have the now customary unboxing video. Note that this is the full UK retail model. As we had such great feedback from Piero’s HTC Touch Diamond2 review we’ve passed the handset over to him for review. He’ll be putting it through its paces for about a week to give it a good real-world test so please be patient. However, if you want to make sure that he covers something specific or to ask him any questions while he’s doing it then please email or post comments below.

Here we go with another unboxing, this time we have the HTC Touch Pro2 in our hands but still the same poor quality video camera. Don’t worry we are saving up for a new HD camera but with the credit crunch and all that this is all we have for now. Anyway hope you enjoy the quick unboxing of this beautiful device, it is winging its way to our resident slide out keyboard expert Gareth as we speak for a full review in the coming days. If you have any questions about the device you can email us at [email protected] or leave them in the comments and we will answer them all. In case you missed them we have some comparison pictures which you can also see here.
Our friends over at Phandroid are reporting that a security update has been released for Android devices that have been updated with the 1.5 Cupcake update. The security flaw apparently was pretty severe (at least in concept). Basically, when 2 applications by the same author are installed on your Android Device, the operating system allows the applications to share information between those applications without requiring verification by the user. The vulnerability would allow application developers to bypass the system of inter-application signature checking, essentially gaining access from other applications NOT written by that developer.
Start talking about applications from Visa, your bank, or applications that might have other sensitive data and that is a potentially severe security flaw. This affected the following versions of Android:
1.5 CRB17
1.5 CRB42
The “fixed” version is listed as “1.5 CRB43? and the flaw doesn’t affect 1.0 and 1.1
Well rumour has it that Orange UK has won exclusive rights to the new Google Android phone, dubbed the HTC Hero.
HTC’s new Android phone will come with HSDPA connectivity, bluetooth, and a 3-megapixel camera and will be Orange’s first Android-powered phone.
Vodafone have already snapped up the exclusivity of the second Android powered phone, the HTC Magic, which was launched in on 1 May. The first Google Android phone, the G1, was launched exclusively by T-Mobile in October last year. The handset was also made by HTC. The HTC Hero is targeted for an August launch in the US, but a UK release date has not yet been confirmed.
Sources at HTC and Orange would neither confirm nor deny the rumour which, in my opinion, is confirmation in itself!
Just received the HTC Touch Pro2 from Clove and have taken a few pictures of the device alongside the HTC Touch HD and the iPhone 3G along with some additional shots of the device and keyboard. The pictures are after the break and we also have an unboxing video here.
