BlackBerry Curve 8520 Gemini unboxing video

It’s been a good few months since we last looked at a BlackBerry. That was the BlackBerry 9500 Storm which has in itself seen pretty mixed reviews. This Curve 8520 (Gemini) is RIM’s latest and greatest addition to the successful and popular Curve range.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 Gemini

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 Gemini

The Gemini certainly has the BlackBerry look with a QWERTY keyboard that could be from any number of other handsets in the range. However, ROM have added some new features to the 8520 that you wont find elsewhere. First of all there’s the optical optical trackpad instead of a trackball or D-Pad and then, on the top of the unit, there’s three additional media control buttons right where you’d need them.

Personally I think that RIM have done a decent job with the design and I like the rather understated black finish more than the typical silver of other curve models.

James is finishing up the review of the BlackBerry Curve 8520 Gemini at the moment and we’ll have the review for you in a day or two. In the mean time have a look at the unboxing video. If you have any questions of comments be sure to share them with us using the forum link at the bottom of this post and we’ll do our best to respond.

Samsung i7500 Galaxy unboxing video

The Samsung GT-I7500 Galaxy is one of the first non-HTC handsets to run Google’s Android OS. It also seems to be a handset that many Android fans have been waiting for. The Samsung Galaxy is also the smallest Android handset to date.

Canon EOS 500D unboxing video

I have to admit to being a fan of Canon DSLR cameras. I’ve owned a large number of them over the years and was pleased to get my hands on Canon’s latest EOS release, the 500D.

500D_front_angle

The Canon EOS 500D

While I have the slightly better EOS 50D at the moment the one thing that the 500D offers that the 50D does not is the ability to record HD Video. It was for this reason that I really wanted to try out the 500D as I’m sure you’ll realise by now, I do record a lot of video!

So over the next week or so I’ll be using the 500D to take photos of the products that we are reviewing at the moment and also will try using it to capture some HD video.

Have a look at the unboxing video below to see what you get with the 500D and also have a quick look around the camera body.

LG GD910 Watchphone unboxing video

I must admit that when I first heard about the LG GD910 Watchphone a few months ago my initial reaction was that it would be nothing more than a gimmick and would have little practical use. However, having managed to get my hands on the Watchphone a few days ago I’ve changed my mind a little, I think it’s actually quite a cool and practical gadget that is going to appeal to a number of people.

LG watchphone2

LG Watchphone (LG-GD910) – Exclusive to Orange

The LG GD910 Watchphone is packed with features. There’s an excellent capacitive touchscreen, bluetooth, 2GB of internal memory for storing music and media, a camera for video conferencing, HSDPA support etc. It’s quite an extensive list and a specification that would be reasonable for any handset and even more so when you consider the size of this thing and that you can have all of that in something that can be worn on your wrist.

So I’ve been using the Watchphone for the last few days and I’ve been using it as my work phone along with the supplied Bluetooth headset. Call quality is perfectly acceptable but the downside is that signal reception isn’t great. Not a problem if you live in a metropolitan area with good coverage but not ideal if you live in a more rural area.

Battery life is impressive too. I’ve been using the GD910 for about 48 hours and so far I’ve not had to charge it. That’s despite making quite a few voice and video calls and texting as well as showing it off to my friends and listening to music. Thumbs up for battery life!

The main downside for me is that there is no email support at all. While I would not expect full Exchange email support it would be nice to have simple POP3 email. For me this would make it a more viable handset replacement. If however you are simply interested in voice and text messaging then it’s a better option.

So take a look at the video I have for you below. It’s a bit more than just an unboxing video this time. I’ve taken a tour around the Flash-based user interface and made some comments along the way.

LG LG910 Watchphone specification:

  • Comes with a Bluetooth headset

  • 3G with 7.2Mbps HSDPA and video-calling
  • Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP

Sony Ericsson W205 unboxing video

Recently Sony Ericsson added to their range of Walkman branded handsets with the launch of the entry-level W205. The W205 is a small and light handset with sliding screen that reveals a basic numeric keypad.

The Sony Ericsson W205

The Sony Ericsson W205

While the Sony Ericsson W205 is intended to be entry-level, which becomes apparent when you look at the 1.2" Display and 1.3MP camera, but there are some features that help to elevate its status a little. For example, there’s the build in FM Radio with RDS and the ability to record the FM radio and to capture video. There’s also Mini-opera web browser preinstalled but web browsing on that 128×160 pixel display could be interesting.

If you want to use this handset for music you definitely need to invest in a M2 micro memory card as there’s only 5MB of built in memory and card support is only 2GB.

Have a look at the video below while we finish off the review.

Combining the power of the NVidia 9400M Graphics Processor with the lean efficiency of the Intel N230 Processor, the Aspire Revo redefines compact, affordable computing with a package that is big on performance but miniscule in size. Based around nVidia’s ION performance platform, the Revo takes expectation to new levels boasting stutter free 1080p playback, a wealth of connectivity options and a gaming performance that belies it’s small size.

This is one handset that we’ve had repeated requests to unbox and review on site and this week I managed to get my hands on the LG GD900 Crystal. I have to say it’s a great looking handset with an impressive touchscreen display and an equally impressive transparent sliding keypad, hence the Crystal name.

Asus Eee PC T91 unboxing video

I think that it’s fair to say that Asus played a fairly big role in the success and popularity of the netbook PC over the past few years with the Eee PC 701 selling in such vast quantities that it was hard to get hold of in the early days. Now it seems that all of the manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon with netbook PCs ranging in size from 7" to 10" displays you can more or less take your pick of your favourite manufacturer.

image

A while ago we had a chance to look at the Gigabyte M912 which I believe was the first of the small form PC’s to have a built in touchscreen and to bridge the netbook/tablet divide.

So it looks like Asus are following rather than leading with their Eee PC T91. This netbook comes well specified with 1.33gHz Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD and 9" touchscreen display. The screen also swivels back on itself so that it may be used as a more conventional tablet style PC.

We’ll spend the next couple of weeks using the Eee PC T91 and will have a full review up on site shortly after. For now have a look at the brief unboxing video below. As you’ll see, the screen is extremely reflective but that’s largely down to how bright it was when I was recording. We’ll have some better screen shots for you with the review.
