The Next Nexus in pictures

34X2EwFThe internet is rife with rumours about what is happening with the next Nexus incarnation. The most solid news is that there will be two Google-branded smartphones which will be made by LG and Huawei. These should be here in October or early November will ship with a new version of Android. @evleaks aka Evan Blass, one of the most reliable tipsters and all round good sod stated “Huawei Nexus sounds impressive so far: 5.7″ QHD w/ metal body, SD820 SoC, fingerprint reader. Ships Q4.” Similarly @onleaks touched on LG’s offering having a metal body, measuring approximately 147x73x8-9.8mm with a 5.2in screen, Front Facing Speakers,Fingerprint Sensor on the Back and USB Type-C.

An image slipped out this morning of the back of a phone carrying the Nexus branding. With the circular ring of Motorola and an interesting Nokia Lumia style camera housing. In addition this looks to be a plastic back with a dual LED flash. Some friendly folks on Reddit decided to do a little photo-shopping to clean up the image for a more handsome viewing experience below.

A new Samsung watch might be round… the corner

Next-Gen-Gear-SDK-Teaser-Title-2_w_600

Round smart watches seem to be in garnering most of the attention at the moment, aside from a certain square Apple offering.

Motorola has the 360, LG has the G Watch R and the Watch Urbane, and even Huawei are showing off a most delicious model, so it’s been rumoured for a while that Samsung’s next Gear could be round, too. Recent images of the UI seem to confirm this. Along with hinting at the shape of the new Gear, Samsung also look to be working with some of the partners on applications for it, such as CNN, Yelp, Baidu, FidMe and Apposter.

There is, as yet, no indication of what OS the new Gear will be running, Safe bet is to be Tizen. The current Samsung wearables SDK is Tizen, and Samsung has a vested interest in promoting its own OS on its wearables, rather than producing a new Android Wear device. Samsung have also been pushing the standalone watch like the Gear S, it can’t use Wear as Google’s wearable OS doesn’t support this feature.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will launch with Windows 10 this Summer

image-left-cyan-hero-e1400563125164Microsoft are breaking the mould and releasing two laptop replacements this year. On top of the Surface 3 it looks like we will be getting a high end refresh of the Surface Pro 3, crudely dubbed the Surface Pro 4 at this point. As usually we are expecting the Surface Pro 4 to cater for those with deep pockets, much like the previous three models however there looks to be a sizeable upgrade this year that will justify keep the high price. Whilst the device will run Windows 10 and will likely be the ideal scenario for which Windows 10 should be used rumour has it that Microsoft are placing the Skylake Processor inside. Intel have been talking up this processor however it was not to be released until sometime in 2016 however it looks like Microsoft may have twisted their arm enough to get into their most desirable hybrid. The Skylake is touted to be much more powerful than previous Intel predecessors, requiring less power and offering better battery life.

There is bad news however, the device will not feature a USB-C port, as rumoured earlier, as it is too soon for such integrations. It also looks as though Microsoft will be axing the RT line of tablets in favour of the Surface line as a lower cost solution to the Surface Pro devices. Windows 10 will bring a larger amount of new features for the Surface and desktop experience worldwide, for example the Spartan browser that is due to replace Internet Explorer. This comes bundled with Cortana, reading view and most importantly, a support for on-screen hand drawn notes.

A feature of Android 6.0?

samsung-galaxy-note-ii-multi-window-us-cellular-1We are getting Android 5.1 in the next few days, or weeks depending on how lucky you are and this update brings with it a fairly routine collection of tweaks and improvements. However, the future of Android will always feature more exciting features in the long run and anything that might help increase productivity is not beyond the realms of imagination.

Down in the depths of Android’s source code a small hint exists that Google may be working on a multi-windows feature. Some may scoff that Samsung have already brought this to their Touchwiz overlay however there is a software tool in place of a core feature. Whilst a little buggy over the years the idea is sound and for Google to place it into stock Android at some point in the future makes Android a whole lot more of a viable option for desktop work stations (again bringing the existence  of Chrome OS into question.)

Oppo’s 5 minute charge Smartwatch

oppo-smart-watch-leak-640x327Imagine having a smart watch that can go from 0 to 100% in just 5 minutes of charging. Oppo certainly is. There is a possibility the Chinese is on their way to perfecting the technology to make this possible.

With some fuss over the Apple Watch 18-hour battery life and folks glowing over their Pebble’s week long e-paper approach there is no simple solution short of placing a bulkier battery leading to larger and slightly more off putting form factor,  also have a look at these excellent smart watches for men as some are so stylish and with a high degree of luxury so make wonderful watches. Looking the best Concord watch repair services? Times Ticking is the fastest, easiest and most convenient way to repair your Concord watch

Oppo’s is employing a next-generation VOOC charger. We have seen VOOC charging in both the Nexus 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to pull more power in and deploy is sensible to prolong battery life. A watch naturally has a small battery, e.g. 300mAh in place of a 2400mAh in you average smartphone. Utilising a similar charging style this could slash the recharge time down to minutes. Only time will tell if the battery will be able to withstand frequent charging.

What would an iPhone 6C look like?

phpd80nfd3DFuture has produced a convincing render of a plastic-coated version of the iPhone 6, following in the footsteps of 2013’s iPhone 5C. Based on Apple’s previous release habits, an iPhone 6C would feature the same internals as the iPhone 6, with a more powerful iPhone 6S launching alongside it.

However, whilst it has yet to be confirmed whether Apple will travel the a budget version route again to keep the manufacture price to profit ratio at a maximum we enjoy the rumour game it and this is not beyond the realms of possibility. Perhaps a similar offering will await the larger alternative, the iPhone 6 Plus … C.

Previous reports suggest that the iPhone 5C was the best-selling smartphone in the UK last August, with demand unaffected by the launch of the iPhone 6. All will be reveals when Apple refreshes its iPhone line in September this year.
