Touching the Panasonic DX902

21371_TX_65DX902_1Recently I was  invited along to experience the new Panasonic DX902, a television that Panasonic are extremely proud of. Instead of getting distracted with all the latest Smart TV features Panasonic is focusing entirely on the best picture quality they can get from a panel. With the DX902 they are proud to point out it is receiving some of the best reviews across the Internet of any LED TV.

Previously Panasonic have spent a lot of time concentrating on plasma however they are having to keep up with the times as people are wanting thinner televisions with better power usage ratings. Pushing the LED technology as far as they can Panasonic has put in a vibrant 4K panel that handles HDR better than most. Additionally the Firefox TV operating system is in play here and gives a fast, responsive and easy to use experience for any TV user. This new model can be hanging from the ceiling by using a ceiling tv mount to hold it.

Around the back of a panel are 4 HDMI ports with Audio Return Channel (ARC) and thankfully each of these is compliant with the high definition copy protocol (HDCP) 2.2 standard. Three USBs have been installed one of which is USB 3.0, and Panasonic have thankfully added set of optical audio outputs alongside the standard ethernet and tuner for Freeview and Freesat. As usual with the last few incarnations of Panasonic Viera TV’s we have two remote controls, a standard IR remote and a Bluetooth TouchPad that adds voice control.

The real star of the show year however is the new backlight technique Panasonic are employing, utilising local dimming. This screen is not lit from the edge, instead it uses a very specific structure with seven by seven clusters creating isolated areas of the screen to minimise any leakage. This allows the panel to have exceptionally deep blacks. We witnessed a test of Mad Max: Fury Road from a 4k disk and the results for stunning. What we’re seeing here is one of the first televisions with 10-bit HDR, a new standard supported by Ultra HD Blu-ray. The loss of detail and clipping is astonishing however Mad Max: Fury Road actually has dropped frames integrated into the original negative and some may mistaken this for performance problems. The DX902 has a new HCX+ (Hollywood Cinema eXperience plus) processing chipset, an improvement on the 4K Studio Master Processor, that helps produce pre-HDR Rec 709. This has earned 4K Certification from the renowned independent quality assurance group, THX.

The Award-winning cinematographer Vanja Cernjul, known from TV series such as Marco Polo and Orange Is The New Black, noted: “I think when consumers see a 4K HDR image, they will get used to it very quickly, and then just start demanding it”. Panasonic utilised Vanja to create a cinematic short film to demonstrate Panasonic’s VIERA Ultra HD Premium TV’s ability to reproduce the director’s vision.

When all this is put together this TV really is one of the top TVs for the regular consumer,  certainly experts may be able to see problems however for the average customer the combination of outstanding colour, ease of use, to the point feature set and elegant look really make for a winner. Whilst pricey you really are getting what you pay for here and if you’re entertaining a 4K screen this summer then the DX902 is one to look at.

The DX902 comes in two sizes, 58-inch for around £2700 and 65-inch costing around £3200.

Mitsuoka Brooklands Roadster

Mitsuoka Motor will be showcasing their limited edition “Brooklands” Roadster at The London Motor Show. Prepare for a massive 43-inch 4K IPS PC monitor from Philips

This is where Philips comes in, with its new 43-inch PC monitor, offering 4K Ultra-HD resolution and promising excellent colour accuracy.

The new BDM4350UC Philips display uses high performance panels to deliver UltraClear 4K UHD images: at 3840 x 2160 pixels. With 43 inches of 4K UHD screen space available, there is plenty of room to work on multiple windows and applications side-by-side. Wired connectivity comes in the form of a USB 3.1 Type-C reversible port which supports ultrafast transfer of data (up to 5Gbps) and also a USB 3.0 port which supports power-off charging for mobile devices, even when the Aspire S 13 is switched off. Wirelessly, the laptop enables users to utilize 802.11ac to its maximum effect with 2×2 MU-MIMO (Multi-User MIMO) for up to three times faster performance over single-user MIMO 802.11ac.
Meanwhile, the Precision Touchpad enables an accurate, smooth and responsive navigation experience, and supports Windows 10 Precision Touchpad gestures.

The Aspire S 13 offers the best of both worlds when it comes to work and entertainment capabilities. The Full HD touchscreen display with wide-viewing angle IPS technology brings immersive experiences for both movies and presentations, while Acer “BluelightShield” can be enabled to reduce the blue-light emission from the LED backlit module. In low light, the two stage adjustable backlit keyboard provides more options to suit the circumstances: first stage turns on the backlit keyboard, the second stage turns on the lighting to full luminance.

Yhe Aspire S 13 is ultra-thin and lightweight, measuring 327W x 228D x 14.58H mm (0.57 inches) and weighing 1.30 kg (2.86 pounds). Unannounced Huawei P9 Lite popping up

Huawei P9 Lite1No sooner do we have the Huawei P9 than the little brother is rumoured and remains yet to be announced by the company. Some European markets in Belgium and Romania have noted it on websites however it has now been listed on the website of Chinese telecommunication authority TENAA, suggesting an imminent launch in the Asian country.

The listing reveals that the device is powered by an octa-core 2.0Ghz chipset, a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3GB RAM, 16GB expandable internal memory and powered by a generous 2,900mAh battery.

The P9 Lite features a 13MP on the rear and an 8MP front shooter. Dimensions are listed as 146.8×72.6×7.5 and it should weigh around 143g. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be in running out of the box and typical colour options include gold, white, and black.

Gameloft becoming freemium

Gameloft-Gets-With-AppNexus-What-Are-They-Up-ToIt would seem that publishers are really turning to the free-to-play revenue model as the only proliferate approach across the mobile space. However French developer, Gameloft, who was one of the last big brands to use the premium priced model without in-app-purchases has now announced the switch to the more lucrative free-to-play model. Up until now Gameloft has offered a library of titles that were sold as complete games for one price, a revenue model most familiar to those who play real money iphone games on dedicated gaming devices throughout the last 40 years, and a model that many veteran gamers still insist on using.

Gameloft’s premium franchises such as N.O.V.A., Modern Combat, and Asphalt have in part come to define hardcore gaming on mobile, and helped set the precedent for mobile games being sold for more than 79p. Despite having cultivated both an image, and an audience that revolved around premium games, Gameloft has apparently shifted its development resources to focus on freemium titles.

When Twitter user @steventhiele2 inquired about the forthcoming release of Modern Combat Versus, fellow Gameloft enthusiast, @TonySshy, asked about the pricing for the game. Gameloft’s German branch replied to the line of questioning by stating that, “[…] we are not producing premium titles anymore. All our future games will be F2P“.

What this means for Gameloft games previously released as paid titles has yet to be determined, but we will be seeking a comment from Gameloft’s representatives in order to obtain greater clarity about which games, and which regions, will be impacted by this turn-of-events.

For those that follow Gameloft closely, this seemingly sudden focus on freemium content may not be all that surprising. Later entries in the Asphalt series launched as premium titles but eventually switched  to the free-to-play model. More recently, titles such as Rivals, and Spider-Man Unlimited, have launched as free-to-play content. As such, Gameloft seems to have been testing the free-to-play waters for some time.

Chromebase for Meetings is hardly anything new when it comes to hardware, however there is a management console that lets administrators easily deploy and manage a fleet of such devices across meeting rooms around the globe.

We’re also happy to announce new features to our remote fleet management tools. Administrators can receive alert notifications and track health of their fleet of Chrome devices for meetings. They can remotely diagnose and troubleshoot audio, video quality and bandwidth problems. Administrators can also customize the interface using their own background images.
