LG unveils Stylus 2 Plus announced

LG have yet another device up their sleeve. The Stylus 2 is a more budget-friendly stylus phones similar to Samsung’s Note series without the pricetag. They are now announcing an upgraded Plus variant with an ARM chip that could be wither a mid-range MediaTek or a Snapdragon 415 (or similar,) a 5.7-inch Full HD screen and a 16MP camera (in select regions), as well as an 8MP front shooter. The RAM has similarly had an upgrade to 3GB and 32GB internal memory. Other specs include LTE, 3000mAh battery, and a fingerprint sensor. The Stylus 2 Plus runs Marshmallow out of the box, and will be making its way to Asia, South America, Europe and North America later this month.

SEOUL, June 1, 2016 ― The LG Stylus 2 Plus, the latest edition of its large-format Stylus series, begins its global rollout with its launch today in Taiwan. The LG Stylus 2 Plus will make its way to customers in other key markets in Asia, South America, Europe and North America in the weeks to come.

While the design remains consistent with the original LG Stylus 2, the smartphone features significantly better performance than its original cousin. At its heart is a faster 1.4GHz Octa-Core processor, a sharper 5.7-inch Full HD IPS display and higher resolution 16MP rear camera, with a flash on both sides for clearer photos and videos in low light. Other improvements include more RAM and the choice of colors: Titan, Gold and Brown.

The Stylus 2 Plus carries over the nano-coated stylus which provides the tactile feedback of a quality fountain pen when writing on the screen. Using the stylus is made even more useful with UX features such as Quick Memo and Off Memo and Pen Keeper, which displays a warning when the stylus strays too far from the phone, or vice versa.

Asus announce the Zenfone 3 range

Asus has introduced its new flagship smartphone at the Computex show in Taiwan. Whats more is that it came with it’s two brothers and all of these siblings feature jaw-dropping specs at crazy prices. The range now comprises of the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Ultra. Each version has 2.5D Gorilla Glass and a solid metal casing. The most noticeable difference is the increasing screen size from the 5.5 inch Zenfone 3 to the 5.7 inch Zenfone 3 Deluxe and finally the 6.8 inch Zenfone 3 Ultra.

Each model has optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization when shooting photos with the rear camera, an 8MP, 85 degree front-facing camera, a fingerprint reader beneath the camera on the back of the phone, and dual SIM Card slots (including one which can double as a microSD card reader). Asus also says the Zenfone 3 Ultra will support 7.1 channel DTS surround sound audio, a first and an impressive addition. A “4K TV-grade” processor, a graphics chip which runs Asus Tru2Life+ video enhancement software to optimize video for “contrast, clarity, and smoothness.” will also sit onboard making things looking pretty.

So far pricing has only been announced in US dollars and they sounds a little like this: Zenfone 3 Deluxe (6GB/64GB): $499 USD, Zenfone 3 (3GB/32GB): $249 USD, Zenfone 3 Ultra (4GB/64GB): $479 USD. Asus love to give customers choice and the Zenfone is no exception, there will be a 256GB Deluxe version and a 128GB Ultra version for the storage hungry.

The more the merrier: simplified multitasking with your monitor

Multitasking is the magic word in today’s offices. In the times of digital transformation we have to be fast, forward-looking, need to fulfil several tasks at the same time and have to have data, texts, photos and videos constantly present. This is where modern monitors come into play. They offer ideal solutions for all of those demands. In short: a modern monitor should simplify multitasking and increase productivity. Most suitable for advanced users: a widescreen and high-resolution display with a broad range of connections. But there are more ways to optimise monitor usage.

1. More space: increased productivity with UltraWide monitors

Connecting several peripheral devices directly with the monitor saves time and space – and users do not have to crawl underneath the table or deal with a tangle of cables. Monitors like the AOC U3277PQU and Q3277PQU offer a breadth of options including DisplayPort, HDMI (MHL supported for mirroring and charging mobile phones or tablets), DVI, VGA and a USB 3.0 hub for data transfer or charging of USB devices. The U3277PQU even boasts an advanced HDMI 2.0 connector for smooth UHD video playback with up to 60 frames per second. The benefits are clear: Users only need one monitor for all kinds of connections. They can connect the display with a camera or TV receiver, upload data from a tablet to the PC and at the same time recharge a smartphone via MHL.

3. More of both: multi-monitor set-ups
Users who would like to bring multitasking to the next level can also combine both: e.g. a widescreen monitor with several peripheral devices or even one, two or more additional monitors. There are no limits to today’s multitasking set-ups. As a result, especially hard-core gamers can experience the ultimate gaming experience that surrounds the whole field of vision. And users who work on extremely complex tasks can build their individual set-up to have all crucial aspects of their work at a glance. On this occasion, even ergonomic options like the pivot mode can come into action to optimise the individual construction.

But multitasking is not just for the ambitious: Even casual users can reduce the effort of the easiest all-day work tasks by using simple multitasking options of their monitor. And they will never go back once they have tried it. Because when it comes to multitasking and increased productivity, the saying “less is sometimes more” is not necessarily true.

Google Play Store to hit Chomebooks

It’s not news, more than a rumour and far from a surprise however Google has now made an official announcement about the arrival of the Play Store to the Chromebook.

So, we’re bringing Google Play (the most popular app store in the world) to Chromebooks. This means you’ll be able to download and use Android apps, so you can make a Skype call, work with Office files and be productive offline — or take a break with games like Minecraft, Hearthstone or Clash of Clans. The same apps that run on phones and tablets can now run on Chromebooks without compromising their speed, simplicity or security.

With day two of the 2016 Google I/O developer’s conference in full swing, you would think there might be a little info dribbling out however I guess this is not Android new, but Chrome news so it can take the back burner for now. I would expect something to be mentioned before the conference if over.

There is a little info to be gleaned from the announcement. The update will arrive in the developer channel with M53 and will initially be supported by the ASUS Chromebook Flip, the Acer Chromebook R 11 and the latest Chromebook Pixel. From the sounds of it there might be some incompatibilities on the cards for certain Chomebooks as Google state they are working with partners to launch some great new devices specially designed for Play. Worry not as you can check, Google is keeping an updated list of supported devices here.

With this manoeuvre the Chromebook changes greatly in the eyes of the consumer. The Play Store leads to games, something that the Chromebook has been short of, helping it’s position as a tool for business and education. On the other hand, it brings it a lot closer to the Windows platform for app content. One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of people looking at how to swap out their 16gb drives for something larger.
